Good on you Brad for realizing it’s like a “history lesson”, not promoting these things.
@yootoob10010012 жыл бұрын
Exactly---I am glad that Brad picked up on that right away, because many people who don't usually listen to the music don't. Many bands from the genre used history, literature, current events, etc., in the lyrics, as well as above average vocabulary. Anyone who says metal is for dummies is the one who needs to learn something. I'm with Lex---after listening for decades and thinking about it recently, Megadeth for me is #1, Slayer and Metallica tied for #2, and Anthrax in #3 for my Big Four.

Agreed. Never react to Slayer live (unless you've already heard the studio version). Slayer live has always been about the raw energy of the thing rather than flawless exicution of their music. You can go with the live version for a band like Iron Maiden, but not Slayer. Slayer live is very fun if you already know their music, but not a good introduction.

I tried for a couple of decades to 'get' Slayer. One of my exes years ago was obsessed with them. Didn't get it at all. One day a couple of years back, they came on a random playlist I was listening to in the gym. They absolutely 'clicked' in that moment. I actually found myself dancing a little bit to their little bits of groove in South of Heaven and Seasons in The Abyss during that session, and the groove after the second verse of Angel Of Death. Then I noticed I 'got' all the heavier songs than that that they do that I'd rejected for years. Just in time for their final UK show at Download festival. One of the greatest gigs, and pits, I've been to. The insane thing about that pit was is was full of huge guys colliding, and then in the middle of all the chaos you'd find a petite lass in the thick of it without a scratch on her. Pits are amazing things.

Slayer is the metal band that is that line where it goes from safe and fun metal (nothing wrong with that. I love that stuff too.) straight to not for the faint of heart both musically and lyrically. Slayer is insane. Even watching live shows doesn't do it justice. True story. I'm at one of the several Slayer shows I attended. There's like three pits going apeshit on the floor and all around them people are picking other people up to crowd surf to the stage. As if THAT isn't wild enough on it's own you see a group of people just converge on this one spot. A couple seconds later you see a dude in a wheelchair, both his arms straight up giving the horns, being crowd surfed towards the stage. People lost their damn minds at Slayer shows on a level you had to see to believe. Best explanation of what Slayer fans are like and what seeing them was like is the comedy routine by Jim Breuer just called "Slayer Fans". It's still one of the funniest things ever because it's 100 percent true!

This was the dopest band to see live, especially if you got involved with the crowd, the energy of them was insane, and the crowd is brutal as f. but everyone’s a friend to help you up, everyone is going nuts and you can and will get kicked in the face, but anyone and everyone will help you when you’re in trouble…everyone leaves bruised…but all brothers…kinda like fight club :)

Damn Brad that was so much truth in what you said about teaching them thru song and not just thru text books.

You could also title this video "First time hearing the best song ever written by the best band to ever exist." :P Even though it is not your genre of music, I am glad you were able to appreciate it for what it was. I moshed to this song dozens of times at Slayer concerts over the decades.

I went to a music festival where slayer was the last band to play. I was so tired from being in moshpits all day, I fell asleep during slayer lol I was so mad. So I had to go to the festival in a different state a month later so I could see them.

Studio version for Angel of Death. Check out the song Seasons in the Abyss by Slayer. It's also the name of the album and all the songs are sick. Really enjoying your reactions!!

Definitely should have done a studio lyric video reaction for this song.

That is a great idea, using music for education instead of manipulation. The difference between music then and music now. Keep up the awesome and insightful reactions.

If you want history lessons through music it’s Iron Maiden all the way. Rime of the Ancient Mariner Aces High Flight of Icarus Alexander the Great Paschendale Where eagles dare (based on the movie) Plus so many more… Slayers Dead Skin Mask is something you may like. Creepy as fuck though.

The breakdown and that riff. I love that shit. See Madball and their song called Lockdown where i feel they capture the same energy of that riff.

Jeff Hanneman (RIP) ,the guitarist with hair , was a massive ww2 expert. His grandfather fought and flourished for the armed forces during and Jeff therefore has 1 of the world's largest ww2 memorabilia collections.
I know this video was put out awhile ago but on the off chance you might see this another great "history lesson" type song is Sympathy For The Devil by The Rolling Stones. It has outstanding lyrics in it. Anyway I've just stumbled upon your channel and I'm really digging it

Angel of Death is not only one of the most supreme songs of SLAYER (the best for me) it is also one of the best heavy metal songs ever made.

Loved Brad lookef at this ad aHistory lesson, the right way to ser this in my oppinion... Try MELODIC FESTH METAL, AMON AMARTH. Their lyric is a mix between Nordic history, mythologi. Try Racting to them.. Ravens Flight is one amongst many.
