Sly Stone is easily one of the most influential musicians, he could incorporate all kinds of textures into his music... before there was Prince, there was Sly Stone.

Great band from the 60's-80's. Their sound was a mixture of funk, soul, rock & psychedelic music. They had a lot of hits such as "Dance To The Music", "Everyday People", ""Everybody Is A Star", "Sing A Simple Song", "Family Affair", "Remember Who You Are", "Stand" "I Want To Take You Higher", "Thank You" etc.

Sly & The Family Stone brings back my childhood memories. My older brother was in high school when Sly was at the height of his popularity and he used to play his music in the morning. It always woke me up (my room was next to his), but I still loved everything I heard. This is such a laid back summer vibe song and a perfect choice for a summer playlist. Luv ya’s! 💕✌️

I saw Sly and the Family Stone live in 1970 in Madison Square Garden - my first concert!!! The openers were Gladys Knight and Rare Earth. 15,000 New Yorkers got down for the entire concert when Sly performed!!! I was 13 years old and hooked. The 60 yo old ushers who normally worked at basketball games were dancing in the aisles harder than the 18 yo old hippies!!!! Check out "Sex Machine" from the album 'Stand" - it will blow your mind with funk.

Sly and The Family Stone were a huge influence on rock. People attribute rock's turn to funk in the 70s to James Brown but I think it was Sly. They played at Woodstock. If You Want Me to Stay is my favorite. The bass is killer

I’ll sound like an old man, but when we were young we were very lucky. I grew up in Chicago, and the Top 40 radio station played all different musical genres. We had funk music (by Sly Stone, the master), soul (James Brown), bubble gum (1910 Fruitgum Company), Motown, pop music, rock music (Cream) and great solo artists like Jimi Hendrix, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, etc. It’s such fun to see the younger generation discover the music we were blessed to listen to everyday.

This song was written by Sylvester Stewart (Sly Stone) and released in 1969. Sly was born in Denton, TX on 15 March 1943. Sly was identified as a musical prodigy. By age 7 he had mastered the keyboards. Then by 11 he had mastered the guitar, bass and drums. Thank you for your reaction to "Hot Fun in the Summertime", Asia and BJ.

Just as nearly every rock band can trace their roots to The Beatles, every funk and funky R&B band that emerged in the 70’s can trace their roots to Sly & The Family Stone. Many people site James Brown as the greatest influence. However, in nearly every interview I read most cited James Brown as their favorite performer, they all said they wanted to be like Sly. He influenced the look of nearly every band that came after as well as having multiple lead vocalists and free form jamming.

I had a 1969 Rambler (I believe that was the last model year of the Rambler) in a pale yellow that was definitely not luxe in any kind of way, but, very dependable (straight six), good on gas, and it got me and my friends everywhere we needed to go. Drove that car all around Ventura, down to L.A., up to Santa Barbara, replaced the single speaker to the car radio three times because I always had it turned up all the way, blasting out music.
