What an interesting album so far. Insanely good vibes here. I love the lyrical themes of "broken" characters- very realistic and they make for very interesting and memorable songs... Thanks for watching! 🥰

The Dan are such great storytellers and the rest of the songs have elegantly fleshed out characters. This is my favorite Steely Dan album, I play it all the time. So glad you're enjoying it too.

As a Steely Dan devotee I appreciate you picked Babylon Sisters. The intricacies of their music & lyrics is so many things including sexy and as a life long trained dancer has so much to work with. Plus SF is my home town.

Of course! You were one of the few who suggested this one many months ago, and with it being your user name, I just had to let you know! SF is a great town and the weather there is perfection in my opinion! Thank you so much for watching 🤗

I so enjoyed the reaction! I've read that Third World Man is Joni Mitchell's favorite SD song. It's hard for me to name five, this would be included! I read that Larry Carlton once said that his solo on Third World Man was his favorite of all the solos he did with SD.

I think longtime SD guitarist Jon Harrington, said this is his favorite solo as well.

I thought I knew all the best Dan songs, but somehow "Third World Man" slipped by, and I am so grateful to you for bringing it to my attention. It may well be their best. Already a huge fan of Babylon Sisters, Aja, and Royal Scam. "Charlie Freak" is another great message song by Mr. Fagen, I presume.

Don't sleep on the bass clarinets in the chorus in 'Sisters. Third world man was originally called "Were You Blind That Day" and had different lyrics. Please go back to Royal Scam and dig around. Happy listening.

More excellence from Steely Dan of course. The production by Gary Katz is superb. Overall I prefer this album to Aja. I am glad you mentioned Bernard Purdie's contribution to Babylon Sisters, namely the "Purdie Shuffle". My ratings would be the other way round btw. I could listen to Babylon Sisters on repeat for an hour or two, it is just a joy in every way. I look forward to more gems in future months. 💜

Another great Steely Dan album to finish discovering! Great songs, I’ve not listened to either in awhile. One of my favorite albums of theirs is “Alive in America”…..used to listen to it a LOT! It’s been a great week so far…have a great weekend buddy!

Not too many KZbin reactions for Third World Man; great to see yours.... Both of these are in my personal top 20 Steely songs. I certainly am content every time to hear them again. Regarding Gaucho; it wasn't particularly well received by critics *or* fans, at the time (folks expected at least an album each year, back then - and why not?!). It's nice to see it being reappraised positively. It certainly has some killers songs on it..

Always class. Usually good storytelling. Not sure why I never got into them at the time. Spent out on other favourites I guess?

Three years after Aja, Becker and Fagan returned with the obsessively streamlined Gaucho. This impeccably recorded set contained two fine hits, "Hey Nineteen" and "Time Out of Mind." "Babylon sisters" was another memorable highlight, while the title track sported one of the most entrancingly convoluted melodies of their career. However, "Glamour Profession," with its sophisticated disco feel, seemed tailor made for the perpetual happy hour. - All Music Guide

"Babylon Sisters", another of the great Steely tracks found on their "A DECADE OF..." best of Steely Dan album. It got lots of radio play time. I do not think Third World man got any radio time. Relatively unknown track to most. A shame because it has some nice bits.

Wow, crazy that the radio stations I listened to for decades never bothered to play Babylon. Yes, clearly Third World resonated greatly with me. Thanks so much for watching!

I must admit I wasn't familiar listening to Steely Dan before, just the Very known songs like the first, very great and soft, I believe they brought that smooth jazz to the world. Third World I never heard but it was like a cup of good wine, blown! He always worked with among the best American artists, I listened to some of them separately. Thinking of Steve Gadd, Larry Carlton or Joe Sample. Didn't realize they were all involved! Thanks for this honey for the ears... Enjoyed😎

Perhaps the two best tracks on this album( along with Time Out Of Mind)... Babylon Sisters is about a man having a midlife crisis thinking he needs to settle down( it could be construed as autobiographical, as with most Steely Dan songs, YMMV as to interpretation). Fire musically--SMOOOOTH. A frequent listen for me( yes, the prog rock guy enjoys this style too) Third World Man has that superb guitar work that makes it worth your time The Gaucho album could almost be called a Donald Fagen solo album--Donald did most of the supervision/production coordination on it, due to Walter Becker being away for some time( reportedly for detox) during the making of the album--which caused delays in getting it out

Bro, GTR wich means guitar, was a very short life band, only one album released in 1986, who were the guitar players of that band ? a certain Steve Hackett... and a certain Steve Howe, wich songs to start ? the AMAZING "The Hunter" and the beautiful "Toe the Line" do a perfect combination.
