The Brits and Canadians were the best at doing new wave music in the 80s
@OronOfMontreal10 ай бұрын
I preferred Aussie New Wave to British. But our Canada had so many talented songwriters and bands, that musicians from the northern States came to our cities to develop their skills and lay the foundations of the music of the 90s. In the mid-80s I photographed Rock bands in Montreal nightclubs, especially Station 10. So many amazing bands, so much fantastic music, that never signed a major label deal in the U.S. Such a shame.

Interesting how one can forget about a song when it’s one of their favourites. 😉 Is it because it’s not being played on radio anymore David?
@davidbarker772 жыл бұрын
@@NathanVeenstra It's obviously a factor. That and I don't have it on my iPod which I will likely remedy. On the other hand, it can be delightful when a reaction channel does a song from my past like this to help all the memories flood back. Cheers.

Right on Harri, a Canadian new wave synth band of the 80's. Their best known song is "We Run". Apparently they have reformed and will have new music and start touring again. Enjoyed your reaction. Another New Wave Canadian band to check out is The Spoons. One of their best is "Romantic Traffic".

They loved sci-fi and wrote a lot of songs about books and movies--Running Away is about Blade Runner/Do Androids Dream, Nor Crystal Tears is about the Alan Dean Foster novel of the same name. Not sure what, if anything, this song is drawn from but it wouldn't surprise me if there was a film or book inspiration.

The producer of this album was Bruce Fairbairn who died suddenly at age 49 in May of 1999 while working on an album with Yes. He produced albums for Loverboy, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, AC/DC, KISS, and many more. This was one of his early works. I only found out about it because I made a video about Bruce Fairbairn recently. I quite like this song.

WOWWW.. What a complete TRIP that you’re reacting to this song per request!! 😲 My wife was searching for a copy of this song for 30 years, having loved it but lost the unlabeled mix tape she had it on given to her by her best friend who was a popular late night radio DJ in the 80’s. For decades it eluded her, as she had always thought it was an OMD tune. Many times I tried to find it by searching through the OMD discography, but of course, had no luck. She knew the words, and would recite them, and the lyrics are truly beautiful.. to me, more about a longing to close a mental/spiritual distance with one another. One night about a year ago, I pressed her to recall as much information about it as possible. She remembered variations of the name of the song, but did add it onto a list which I diligently searched and then to our great joy, finally found it. Though this obscure tune doesn’t seem to resonate with everyone, thanks all the same for giving a listen to this beloved tune which had eluded us for so long!

I had never heard of this band until I watched a show called Almost Human. It was used as part of an ending scene in one of the episodes. They're from Canada I was blown away by it when I listened to it during the episode that I had to go looking for it. The show Almost Human starred Karl Urban and it takes place in a future where technology had advanced so quickly that the police could not keep up with the criminals that use it to commit crimes.

@@alexflores7652 It's kind of the forgotten J.J. Abrams show and it's not perfect but there's a lot to like. And I'd argue it's more grounded in emotion and relationships than, say Lost--not to say Lost didn't develop characters or have relationships, but it's the underpinning of Fringe.

During the 1980s, most of the best New Wave Rock came from Australia and Canada. Strange Advance was one of the latter. They helped prove that Synthesizers could produce warm, emotional sounds. The fretless bass and the lead singer's voice helped, too. Overall a lush, beautiful song that got a lot of airplay, at least in my hometown of Montreal. Thank you for reacting to it. Next, I recommend The Box, "Ordinary People" and Red Rider, "Napoleon Sheds his Skin".
@TheoWerewolf Жыл бұрын
Strange Advance does themes based on 80s science fiction. Like their recent "Perfect Day" is based on the experience of the character played by Edward G. Robinson in "Soylent Green" - the idea of your last perfect day before being put to sleep to help reduce the population of the earth (and yeah, become soylent green - but the characters didn't know that). "Running Away" is based on the replicant's perspective from "Blade Runner" and so on.

Thank you for listening to worlds away. I do think this is a separation between couples song, but one was not expecting it at all because 'look in your eyes your worlds away' it sounds scary to anyone in a relationship. That they're partner is picking up and leaving, unexpectedly, 'and what to do now' feeling. It'd sad but it can be ok. It's all my opinion. It's quite a feeling

I love this song, but I prefer the 45 version. I still have the record, found it at Tower of Records June 1983. It does have that futurist sound while still feeling like an 80's song. Sort of a sad song. I got the feeling it was about kids having a hard time and they're world's away even though they could be the kid next door.
