1) A good Radiohead track to listen to is Karma Police. I would say Creep, but that's too depressing. Radiohead - Karma Police / Radiohead kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6a8iIyNhchsfrc 2) You were talking about your shadow during your recent livestream, and I feel that I have that. Because it doesn't seem to matter what I did this summer, my shadow will say it's a failure because I didn't get to go visit friends in Michigan.

"immerse your soul in love" is the last line, and the ultimate message. Radiohead is hugely important to so many people who are dealing with mental/emotional issues, and where some people might dismiss their songs, and the band, as "depressing", they (we) find them uplifting, and even life saving. I have so many Radiohead songs I'd love you to listen to, but I think they'll come your way.

The thing about Radiohead is even though many of their tracks have a sadness in them, there's also such a grace and beauty to their sound that it can be cathartic for people going through tough times and don't want "a peppy happy song to cheer them up". They want a piece of art that can humanize their emotional location. Radiohead is a pretty profoundly talented band at reaching into the dark (and sometimes beautifully warm) human emotions. For much warmer vibes in Radiohead's music, listen to "Give Up The Ghost", "Separator", and "Weird Fishes (Arpeggi)". They even have funky tracks, wild punk tracks, super experimental tracks, you name it. Ridiculously talented, versatile band.

This song is one of the very few that makes me tear up, it’s so desperately sad, it’s being a hundred meters under water and seeing the last glimmer of light on the surface, it’s being unable to breathe when you’re being crushed by the weight of the world, the last line to me is both the glimmer in the darkness and the unending struggle for hope. As a survivor of suicide attempts, this song is as much part of me as my heart.

Their lyrics are often oblique but somehow still manage to hit home. I bought OK Computer the day it came out (on CD. Remember those? This song is off The Bends obviously) and it's still one of the best albums I've ever heard. They sound too miserable for many people. I don't know if this will make any sense but their misery sounds beautiful, and that helped me. Your feelings can just seem like worthless trash when you feel down. Something to be ashamed of and to hide. Their songs often captured how I felt so perfectly, but made something meaningful and gorgeous from such feelings, instead of trash. Don't know if that makes any sense but Last Flowers is one of their sadest but also most beautiful songs.

I agree about Last Flowers - "I can't face the evening straight" - especially in its nineties form, when it was just a song he'd play on acoustic guitar at soundchecks - like a private sadness. One song I connected to very strongly as a suicide survivor was There There, with it's simple but sophisticated message of "just cos you feel it doesn't mean it's there".

radiohead is my favorite band, they give me comfort from their melodies, word's can only go so far, can only reach so far and for me words don't seem enough (sorry thom, you're lyrics are still beautiful and touching haha). they've managed to make music so intimate, and there's so many layers in how it's made, what it does for me, i get lost trying to talk about them because they've reached emotions that aren't translatable in words, it's unspoken, i don't know how i could speak about it. it feels like they understand, they're with me. and the band members are lovely, they're so sweet and as an artist myself i love listening to them about their projects. My respect is like none other.

I'm not an English speaker, and for me it's not about the lyrics, but about how in this video there is slow motion and normal, 1995, in one frame. This was a shock for me, I had never seen anything like this before. I was 11, and I lived in what was left of the USSR. Maybe it wasn’t anything special, but for me it was incredible. The song itself, too, without a video, sounds very beautiful. (GT)

I'll rereply! I have spent knocking on 12 years in various (acute wards) MH hospitals where I am. I have had people I've met on certain wards in different ways. One person I met tried to do a 7 storey swan dive after his second wife died on honeymoon, a deportee that shat in the main hallway and kitchen of a local MH establishment, I'd like to add that " most of us, have been happy (there are exceptions) but the majority aren't as bad as they may be. At least not from where I am. ( Some are aping symptoms to a point of getting free money, there is no such thing). God knows I've tried umpteen times but stability is good. I appreciate your situation also I don't want to see anymore of my friends disappear. I have also been to see RH 6 times the last in Iceland and this is one of my favourites. Stay well and thank you for sticking around.

This song is from Radiohead's second album. IMHO, one of the top 5 albums of all time. Paired with the next album, OK Computer, and the subsequent Kid A, they form a quasi-trilogy steeped in alienation and isolation, as we become dehumanized by technology and lose ourselves in the digital noise.

" A song about the futility of life, the pointlessness of existence and the certainty of death. The song is a fitting end to a quite depressing album in which Yorke ends with a glimmer of hope with a suggestion for how to deal with it all. Although the song adds to the pointlessness and hopelessness of life (and death) it also sends the message in the outro that love is the answer to all that life has to offer. " The lead singer said he hated leaving the people with it as the last song for its message , but I , personally find it very positive with the last line " emerse your soul in love . "

Yes. This song is everything you said. It's an existencial crisis song, You try to fit into the mold for so long that you forget how to be a human. Thats why they exaggerate things in the vídeo. You're so on point. Every time I feel kinda down (not depressed just slightly off my usual self) I listen to street spirit. It's a top song, it's stunning because all of the above an literally it lifts you up. Love is the answer but to go through some darkness is necesary, and we all have it inside of us even if it scares us.

Being that Radiohead is not a go-to for me, I'm unfamiliar with a lot of their work so this was new to me. The lyrics and especially the video, was unusual for sure, but what I got out of it, was like the band was trying to say something specific for both the listener and viewer with this video. You know how in times of stress or chaos we get a sense of tunnel-vision? How after some time passes we start to see things more clearly as if the scene plays back in slow motion? This video reminded me a bit of that concept and I'm not sure if Thom Yorke is trying to convey a larger more over-arching message within the video here or if it's something more specific. The imagery is interesting though. Not a go-to band, but I definitely respect Radiohead.

My name is Kevin and I have wished death upon myself more times than I care to remember. To this day I still catch myself saying things like “kill me now” and I always mean it until I say it out loud, in front of people. I never really came close to granting my own wish, and I doubt that I ever will, which is fine with me. But there were times when I thought about it long and hard, and there were times that I made blatantly self-destructive decisions hoping to hasten my demise. I have the scars to prove it. Radiohead didn’t save me. But they did comfort me during the worst times.

1. Go watch Yellowjackets. They also use this song at a pivotal point in the story. 2. Thom: “Street Spirit is our purest song, but I didn’t write it. It wrote itself. We were just its messengers; its biological catalysts. Its core is a complete mystery to me, and, you know, I wouldn’t ever try to write something that hopeless. All of our saddest songs have somewhere in them at least a glimmer of resolve. Street Spirit has no resolve. It is the dark tunnel without the light at the end. It represents all tragic emotion that is so hurtful that the sound of that melody is its only definition. We all have a way of dealing with that song. It’s called detachment. Especially me; I detach my emotional radar from that song, or I couldn’t play it. I’d crack. I’d break down on stage. That’s why its lyrics are just a bunch of mini-stories or visual images as opposed to a cohesive explanation of its meaning. I used images set to the music that I thought would convey the emotional entirety of the lyric and music working together. That’s what’s meant by ‘all these things you’ll one day swallow whole’. I meant the emotional entirety, because I didn’t have it in me to articulate the emotion. I’d crack… Our fans are braver than I to let that song penetrate them, or maybe they don’t realise what they’re listening to. They don’t realise that Street Spirit is about staring the fucking devil right in the eyes, and knowing, no matter what the hell you do, he’ll get the last laugh. And it’s real, and true. The devil really will get the last laugh in all cases without exception, and if I let myself think about that too long, I’d crack. I can’t believe we have fans that can deal emotionally with that song. That’s why I’m convinced that they don’t know what it’s about. It’s why we play it towards the end of our sets. It drains me, and it shakes me, and hurts like hell every time I play it, looking out at thousands of people cheering and smiling, oblivious to the tragedy of its meaning, like when you’re going to have your dog put down and it’s wagging its tail on the way there. That’s what they all look like, and it breaks my heart. I wish that song hadn’t picked us as its catalysts, and so I don’t claim it. It asks too much. I didn’t write that song.”

Music is just music. Like everything else, each person will interpret and apply it to their lives how they want to. But it has nothing to do with the way you feel in the first place. Art is an expression of emotion. The artists emotion. The only reason we apply it to our lives is because we are consumed by ourselves. Maybe if we try and see outside ourselves and try helping others who are less fortunate and try making a difference in this world, then maybe we will feel better about ourselves and realize that everyone struggles. Where do people go for mental health problems in poor war torn countries? They don't because they are just trying to survive. They know life is fragile so they don't take it for granted. So listen to the music you want to, and cry but don't take it literally because there are lots of other things to cry about in the world.

This community and the commentary IS doing something. It's validating people. It's providing reassurance and companionship. Read through the comments, many have found it incredibly helpful. Just because someone else has it worse doesn't mean our feelings and struggles aren't valid.

In one of the interview Thom said that his music is not depressing, because when people stop listening to sad music they will not care anymore... Edit: and Thom Yorke has been in the state of depression and instead of doing the thing that lot of people want but the band don't wanted to (that is to sing their most popular song all the time 'creep'), they decided to make 2 albums dissing to that song... And i think they do a wonderfull job in the latter albums

For me Radio Head was always just raw emotion .. while commercial Radio stations and TV (at that time and still is) just blasting out mind numbing meaningless fluff (actually worse then fluff, more like lint in yr left pocket)

Hey new to your channel! Maybe check out Pearl Jam (Jeremy) *Warning graphic subject matter* & Linkin Park (Given Up). Unfortunate is the reason I know of many songs about suicide and child abuse.
