She has a younger brother that could have easily played “The Man” but her being him is so much more delicious. She definitely is not wrong about the double standards that still exist today. She is at the top of her game, yet it would have been easier and way less controversial if she was in fact a man.

The scene with "world's greatest dad" is obviously somewhat of a dramatization but YES most women find it very annoying that a LOT of dad's get by doing the bare minimum and are seen as "such good dads" when mom's do basically everything and get scrutinized for every decision they make when it comes to their kids. Side note: THANK YOU for being THAT dad that is there for their kids... people don't realize how important father figures are and I've done a lot of research on this topic and it's shocking the amount of criminals that didn't have a father figure in their life or had an abusive father. It's a huge problem we have in society, so again thank you to you and your wife for giving your kids their best chance.

"..if I was rude..." Literally what she got for *not laughing* and trying to cover it by taking a sip of her drink. At least most of us don't have a camera trained on their faces all the time, but oh my God, "you'd be prettier if you smiled more," and God forbid if you don't laugh at a man's jokes. I feel a little sorry for the host. He got no prep time and they were still messing with the writing up to two hours before showtime. And sadly, he really *likes* Taylor Swift.

Yes, Dwayne Johnson was the voice at the end. 😂 her alter ego is Tyler Swift. She definitely knocked this one out of the park!! She’s very much a mastermind with eons of talent and intelligence!!! 😂 In some seriousness too, many female actors/musicians will actually be told to “look sexier” and “appear more likable” next time. That comparison of Leo in Saint Tropez is spot on too. He’s probably bagged more “supermodels” in one week(end) than Taylor has had boyfriends in 20 years. She’s still the “slüt” though, and people call him a “playboy.”. I absolutely love that Taylor is not afraid to point out double standards and say her piece, this one in SPECTACULAR fashion!!! 👏👏👏🙌❤️
@khills10 ай бұрын
This was her first video she directed on her own, yep. But remember: you’re reacting to this five years after it came out - and her star continued to rise after this came out. In some ways, folklore and evermore really changed the trajectory of her career and just put her in another category entirely. But she wrote this song some time in the 1989 to Reputation era - and in particular, during the Reputation era, she was thinking really hard about where her career would go, because most female musicians have their career end after 30, which she was going to be when the Lover album was released. But the song is also talking about feminism and patriarchy, and what women, not just Taylor, experience. That’s what the tennis scene is about. Taylor has never been scolded by a referee… but when this video came out, Serena Williams being scolded and penalized by referees for throwing a racket was still fresh on everyone’s mind. Serena pointed out at the time that she did nothing more than many male tennis greats, like John McEnroe literally did a day (week?) earlier, and her the men were never slapped with a $10,000 fine for unsportsmanlike behavior. (There was also the issue of a referee slapping her with multiple violations during the 2018 US Open, which folks also felt this referred to.) The bit about being just like Leo is referring to Di Caprio, who has dated a string of very young models, and never gotten even half the hate Taylor has received for dating far fewer men. That carries over to the hallway of high fives, which is focusing on the disparity of reactions between people’s reactions to seeing a woman leave a man’s house at 5am vs a man leave a woman’s house, etc. Almost all of the scenes in the video have some real life parallel to them - and that’s not even getting into all of the material in the background. Oh and yes, over here we’d say that men get praised for /babysitting/ their child, because that’s what it’s seen as by so many people, rather than just, you know, PARENTING.

What I love about this video is her placing a spotlight on this male character that she created in a Wolf of Wall Street manner that mirrors current counterparts in the entertainment and business industries that the media praises and gives awards and accolades to while “he’s” behaving badly - the male version ofTaylor’s Blank Space character. In Blank Space “she’s” a mad, crazy, irrational, and an out of control female. Therefore ”she” should be criticized and all of her successes should be minimized and questioned. In her concept of The Man, “his” behavior is the same but is admired and applauded.

Like Ginger Rogers (dance partner to Fred Astaire) was famous for saying “ I do everything he does only backwards & in heels”. That summed up women’s life. We are doing some better, but Ginger said that in the 1940’s-50’s…and here we are still fighting the same stereotypes. 🤷🏼♀️

The point is, we (women) have to work 10x harder to achieve the same. Ask any woman, working or stay at home. Thinking about all the women who have gone through hell, and no one believed them.

I love that she wonders if she would get there QUICKER if she were a man. And I think she might have, honestly, because she’s been toiling away for more than fifteen years to reach this point. But…she is crushing it. Yeah, she has advantages (not everyone can move to Nashville or afford good vocal training), but I can’t see how anyone could claim she hasn’t WORKED for it, too. She’s written 119 songs solo now, it looks like? Plus another hundred that are cowritten. And that’s just published stuff. She has a ton of vault tracks we’re never going to get to hear. (I know this because some have leaked and then still not been included on the TV for the album.) If you liked this music video, you should book some time to just like… kick back and watch a ton of them. The ones she’s directed are sooo good.

You know I’ve been WAITING for this one!!!! Thank you!! Every time I watch it, I catch another detail. When you rewatch, check out all the stuff on the wall that Man Taylor pees on. Especially the sign that says “no 🛴 “ 😂 I feel like you know about Scooter Braun already, but if not, Jamie will definitely be filling you in! Because you appreciated this video so much, you should check out the first one she directed: the short film for the song “Mine.” It’s pretty great and it is such a cool illustration of how she has always had an eye for this, but continues to develop her skill. And though she did not direct them, my other favorite music videos are Wildest Dreams, Blank Space, and I Bet You Think About Me.

Hey, you HAVE TO react to the Medley of a few of her greatest hits she has done on the AMA´s 2019. That would be great ❤
