Lake Lanier is a Georgia landmark, but before it became part of the state’s landscape there was the town of Oscarville. It was formed in the late 1800s during the Reconstruction era. Georgia history teacher Lisa Crosby said Oscarville was a thriving Black community full of carpenters, blacksmiths, and bricklayers, with farming as the top trade. In the 1920s and ‘30s, there was a forcing-out of Black people and mass transferring of their land by and to white people”. (Yarborough, Z, 2021). The racial cleansing started with Oscarville but didn’t stop there. Parts of the stolen land would be sold to the U.S. government, “and by 1950 a plan to build Lake Lanier was in full effect. Soon the entire town of Oscarville would be underwater, intentionally flooded in conjunction with the Buford Dam to support the growing demand for a water supply to the nearby cities.

Lake Lanier is comprised of land mostly between Hall County and Forsyth County, with a couple of other counties having a small percentage of the lake. Forsyth County essentially drove out its black population in the 20s and 30s using some horrible methods. Forsyth remains to this day a very white county. Look up the guy who went on Oprah one time representing the committee to keep Dawson and Forsyth Counties White...the way this man says "white" is dripping with the racism of several generations.

You ever heard of artist copywrite? Wish someone would do a story on him and his life. Him and few others was like the first white hiphop artist from ohio. Mgk style kinda seems like a rip from copywrite at times.
