Normally I would say that for a group this popular, you would have to at least heard the song somewhere even if you didn't remember hearing it, like in a movie soundtrack or a TV commercial. However, The Beatles to this day almost never licensed any of their recordings for movies or commercials. They were that popular that they didn't need the money from licensing deals like that.

Jude is referring to Julian Lennon, John Lennon's son. John was going through a divorce and Paul wrote this song to comfort Julian through the split.

And Pauls Godson. It also refers to Yoko Ono. Remember to let her into your heart, then you can start to make it better. It's a lot of good advice and wisdom to a young boy in confusing times.

Typical of Beatles to have variations of lyrical meanings. Back in the day I heard it had to do with something totally different. The minute you let her under your skin (drugs) Then you begin to make it better. And anytime you feel the pain (needle). So let it out and let it in (injection)

@TheBlackQueen
@TheBlackQueen 4 жыл бұрын
Xcris crosX The Drug meaning was thought up by fans but McCartney always maintained it was a song giving advice to Julien to let Yoko into his heart. "Let it out and let it in" can refer to Crying and Comfort and "Let her under your skin" could just be the metaphorical sense of letting someone into your heart. Paul was always up front about the drug references in his songs as simple allusions, but he never said that about Hey Jude. It's a song for a 5 year old. He likely wouldn't want those references in it. And no it's not like Yellow Submarine promoting smoking.

Not to mention, McCartney's song 'Black Bird' was inspired by the racial tensions that exploded in the US in the spring of 1968 as a symbolic way to support the efforts of the Civil Rights Movement. McCartney underlined also that “bird” is a British slang often used for “girl”, which would make “blackbird” become “black girl”.

The Beatles were one of the first groups to really push equality among everyone. When they were touring in the US did in the early 60s, they found out some of the venues in the south were segregated.where ey threatened to cancel their shows unless it was opened to anyone. The venues caved in and they were some of the first mixed audiences in the US.

you123ST The Beatles were influenced from so many different sources. Chuck Berry was a huge influence, however, Paul’s dad was a musician that played in jazz and dance bands when he was younger, so that was also an influence. Also, Liverpool was a major port and the members of the Beatles said they got records brought from the US by sailors, so they had access to music not heard on the radio or sold in stores in England. County music was a huge influence on their sound, especially evident in their early rockabilly sound on some songs. Paul, George and John were fans of Carl Perkins. In my opinion, the wide variety of influences directly impacted how incredible their work was. You could hear Helter Skelter and Julia on the same album. That is contrast.

Jayvee, you mention the diverse audience that is there singing along with The Beatles? Well dig this about the greatest band in music history: "The Beatles showed their support for the US civil rights movement by refusing to play in front of segregated audiences, a contract shows. The document, which is to be auctioned next week, relates a 1965 concert at the Cow Palace in California. Signed by manager Brian Epstein, it specifies that The Beatles "not be required to perform in front of a segregated audience". The Beatles had previously taken a public stand on civil rights in 1964, when they refused to perform at a segregated concert at the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida. City officials relented, allowing the stadium to be integrated, and the band took to the stage. "We never play to segregated audiences and we aren't going to start now," said John Lennon. "I'd sooner lose our appearance money." The struggle for racial equality in America later inspired Paul McCartney to write Blackbird.

Of course I admire Ringo's work in the Beatles, but his inclusion in the band was not that significant to their creative output. Out of 213 songs recorded, he only composed or sang lead on 11 tracks. When John was asked in 1966 "Do you consider Ringo Starr to be the best pop drummer in the world." John responded "He's not even the best drummer in The Beatles."

@laustcawz2089
@laustcawz2089 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, it's 3rd. The original single of Don McClean's "American Pie" (1971) had the first half of the song on side "A" & the rest on side "B", adding up to about 8 & a half minutes. "MacArthur's Park" (Richard Harris, 1968) was almost half a minute longer than "Hey, Jude". In fairness, though, The Beatles set a new precedent with "Hey, Jude" before the other two songs were released, opening the door for especially long songs.

@laustcawz2089 4 жыл бұрын
@@QueenSnowPea I did some further checking. Both Rare Earth's "Get Ready" single & Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" single were severely edited compared to the album versions (both singles were around 3:00, give or take a few seconds) & neither got anywhere near #1 on the pop charts (at least in the U.S., though "Get Ready" apparently topped the R&B charts). I also discovered, to my surprise, that "MacArthur's Park" actually only made it to #2, not #1. Apparently, only "American Pie" both reached #1 &, because of how the original single was designed, was the longest #1 song ever, though I guess "Hey, Jude" is the longest for one side of a 7". Btw, the only reason I even know about that original "American Pie" single is that I actually had it growing up. Of course, if we're including all types of singles, then that has to include 12" singles (which were generally considerably longer) & then the discussion would get into other formats & so forth, until it practically becomes rather pointless, so, for this particular debate, I guess "Hey, Jude" & "American Pie" can split the difference.
