“Only Yesterday” is one of my favorite Carpenters songs. It always reminded me of “Just The Way You Are” by Billy Joel. I believe Phil Ramone who produced Joel was an engineer on this album which likely explains the Joel connection.

Happy Birthday Amber!!! I am glad you reacted to this song by the famous brother/sister duo. this video was filmed at Huntington Gardens in Pasadena, California. It has been noted this is a two part song. the beginning is the sad and long for a companion in the singer's life. then the second part it where it is found and the singer is now being optimistic that things will "be alright". I am a hard core Carpenters' fan and this is my favorite song of theirs. It really is a tough decision to make because just about all them are dope!! This one, in particular, has a special message we all can relate when longing for a partner/spouse in life. This song taken from the sixth studio album "Horizon". it has been noted the listener can hear some of the finest performances in Karen's vocals. Another song on that album called "Solitaire". A very very sad song where a man has "lost his love, Through his indifference" and wind up basically playing a game of Solitaire. A tear jerker if you will but oh so beautify sung by the late Karen Carpenter. keep the Carpenters' catalog coming......

While the song may seem a bit different to you, Karen's known for singing in her lower register (although ALL of her range is beautiful.) "Our Day Will Come" is an exquisitely upbeat, fun Carpenters song that no one's covered yet. Please consider doing it (the extended version - - where she wears her pink hairband.) Bellbottoms are just what you need Amber and I hope you get some soon! I wore them throughout the '70s. They're awesome!

It is really good and you'll see the struggle she was with with her eating disorder and how words and things that people say can have some adverse reactions case and point what happened with her.

Happy birthday Amber. Feels like my birthday too, because you picked my favourite Carpenters song. Karen and Richard didn't want to release this song, because they thought it was a bit silly, which I don't get. From my perspective it's the best example of Karen's deeper tones, which is what she is known for. If you want to keep Jay happy with some upbeat Carpenters, you should try "Jambolaya (On The Bayou)", although "Top Of The World" would also be a great choice. Thinking about it, you still have a long way to go on your Carpenters journey, so I guess I have a lot to look forward to.
