Unofficially, this tune could fit into the "Bubble Gum" genre of the 60's\70's along with such songs as 'Sugar Sugar ' by The Archies or 'Yummy Yummy Yummy' by Ohio Express that were cute little pop songs that apealed mostly to kids & teeny boppers of the time. This Chordettes song was highlighted in the 80's movie 'Stand By Me' & a staple of the oldies radio station of which I worked some 20 years ago.

I love 50s music but my favorite 50s sounding music is actually from the 80s-Jonathan Richman’s songs, particularly his eponymous album plus “Having a Party with Jonathan Richman” and “Back in My Life”.

What I Like About is They didn’t have the same Mix Machines back than we have today. ( The more natural Talent, even with some would call Imperfections ). I’ve heard a group from 1950s One hade a Lisp. ( Nothing Wrong with it ) Now days they would Electronically Hide it.

Keep in mind this was in the quite conservative 1950s. The 1950s were not that "happy" for the most part. Some found ways to get past the "censors" however...even the self appointed censors. Calling their boy friend their "lollypop" simply referred to a woman liking performing oral sex on them. There were a few songs back then calling their BF their "lolly pop" . BTW, the social upheaval in the 1960s was the result of having quite enough of all this censorship and straight laced societies.

This clip was from Dick Clark's American Bandstand a show we watched every Saturday for the music, the dancing, and the regular couples who were on each week. Every top pop singer/group put in an appearance on Bandstand at one time or another.

I recognise the host on the start of the video you were playing. Coincidentally, he was the host on another music clip I love, so they must have been taken from the same show, although different 'episodes'. The video I saw him on first was one of Bobby Pickett singing "Monster Mash", a video I would love to see you react to, not just because of the song, but the contortions Bobby puts his face through whilst singing it.

I find this particular song very creepy, but then I associate it with the 1995 Harrison Bergeron film, which pictures a future dystopia, where everyone is made equal by handicapping and mind control, loosely based on Kurt Vonnegut's novela of the same title. I quite like it, but it just has that association, with a disturbing society. (Though with some amusing moments, like the new policy on punishment for traffic offences introduced by the newly selected President, and 'chess and conversation' speakeasy/brothels.

This a very catchy song and I remember hearing it sometime long ago although I've never heard of the Chordettes. Like a lot of modern music it is very repetitive and lacking any substance and if I heard it more than once it would drive me crazy. Like I said, I have never heard of this group, but in this song they did not demonstrate any particular singing talent. They might be great singers but it wasn't shown here and this could be duplicated in a typical high school talent show.
