I’m from Northern Ireland and my generation thought the conflict was something our parents and grandparents had to endure, we thought it was behind us. When I was 18 my friends were attacked in Belfast and the youngest one died, a few days from 16 years old. The men who stabbed my friends didn’t know them, it was a maniacal hatred that cannot be justified or understood. This song is powerful for the regret those us who grew up surrounded by The Troubles feel, our powerlessness and frustration at it all, and he lives lost.

It just sort of makes you realize how little he has really dabbled in when it comes to rock music. Putting a timeline to what he enjoys and doesn’t probably isn’t that easy if he really has been coming in completely blind to the rock/metal world. Forming strong opinions on entire generations after listening to a handful of songs is basically impossible. The truth is, in my experience, the 90s were absolutely dominated by rock/alternative music, so much so, I don’t think it will ever happen again. Rap wasn’t really mainstream and respected in the way it was now for much of the 90s and there seems to be so many different unique styles out there now, it’s tough to stamp stuff with a label anymore. Sure there were the spice girls, backstreet boys, Ricky Martin and the lot of pop and boy/girl bands, but there were an infinite amount of chart topping rock bands throughout the years. Early 90s with the grunge movement and mid-90s with a little more straight-forward power chord rock songs with the catchy hooks (like bush and foo fighters) and the late 90s with some of the bands like incubus, staind, korn and even the Chili peppers making a huge comeback. And sprinkle in between a whole hell of a ton of random bands like Radiohead, nine inch nails, collective soul, Radiohead, silverchair, deftones, rage, the offspring, tool, Weezer all throughout the decade. Those are just recognizable names, there were so many bands and songs then, you could really go on and on.

Delores O'Riordan was a truly talented vocalist, and she is greatly missed by her many friends and fans worldwide. With that being said, most of the music from The Cranberries is much softer. It was one of my favorite bands back in the early to mid 90's, partially because of their message, but mostly Her strong Irish voice! R.I.P. Delores O'Riordan!

The problem with the late 80's were the Glam/Hair Metal bands that made Rock (Metal) into Pop Music, and Rock was designed to be music against the system and less music for the masses only talking about Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll... but with Grunge and Alternative Rock the whole genre came back to the origins, unfortunately Rock hadn't make a new big revolution like it 90's, because now Hip Hop is "the new Rock n Roll", and even though I'm not a huge Kanye fan (the guy is a complete douche), the guy has the reason till some point, but know Hip Hop is on its Glam metal phase which is called: Trap/Mumble Rap, I really hope Hip Hop to come back to its origins as soon as possible!!!

Whilst the Warrington bombing sparked her to write this it was about the troubles in Northern Ireland which had gone on for decades which have since been resolved. Its about killing and terrorism. The father of one of the boys publicly thanked her. She was also saying just because she is Irish she didn't agree with the violence. She was due to collaborate with Heavy band Bad Wolves which is why she was in London. Recording was due to start the day she was found dead.
