This was the group's biggest hit. Definitely, you need to watch the Soul Train performance. Their choreography was on point. Lastly, the lead lead singer, Tony Washington was gay.

Yes it was said he was completely out and didn’t give a damn about what people thought ….. one of the guys was his Brother and we have to mention those outfits from that Soul Train performance.

The lead singer was the first openly gay male singer signed to Motown. The thing I remember is we never knew they were gay. It wasn’t promoted we just knew the music was good.

Great song by a groundbreaking group. Many people will reference their Soul Train performance(with good reason) which had lots of interesting things going on. Obviously Washington in drag was in your face in an era where Flip Wilson’s “Geraldine” character was weekly hysterical comedy . Second was the reaction of the Soul Train male dancers many of whom were hiding in “plain sight”. Being with Motown made it all the more fascinating. Since Berry Gordy never was comfortable with breaking from the good old “wholesome” image. Interesting stuff🎼

The Dynamic Superiors were from Washington, D. C. and recorded on Motown Records label. The songs on their first two albums were mostly written by the husband-and-wife team Ashford & Simpson. They recorded with moderate success throughout the 1970s. One of their bestselling hits was "Shoe, Shoe Shine" in 1975. They were unique in that Tony Washington was openly gay, and sometimes dressed in drag onstage.

Another fantastic song and reaction. Ashley, you remind me of my daughters. I am always sharing musical tidbits with them. To be 25 and 18, they are deeply loving old school music. I remember when the corner store sold penny candies and a bus ride was a dime. Thanks for bringing back the memories! FYI: The lead singer in this group was gay.

This is the 1st time I’ve seen you NOT speak, when reacting to a song. I really like this side of you: quiet; reflective. The thing is: you didn’t tell us what you thought of the song!!! Were you listening to it?
