I think I've mentioned this before, but damn! The difference between 70s and 80s elements in music is huge. They almost don't sound like the Moody Blues. Amazing music nonetheless. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, that was Justin singing "The Other Side Of Life" and "Deep". He's still rocking and rolling today. I follow him. Moody Blues was my first concert. Before these songs came out. I love them.

Great reactions Brandon!! The 60's/70's Moodies will forever be my go-to! The magic of the first (core) 7 albums is unparalleled (and much of that is due to OG keys master Mike Pinder!), but I love the 80's Moodies too - yes it was cheesier pop rock, but still excellent musicianship and singing (both of these are Justin - and his voice is always on-point!). Perhaps I'm biased being a child of the 80's, but I love it nonetheless. Your Wildest Dreams still places in my top 5 Moodies tracks - The Other Side of Life just picks up where that left off! Deep ups the cheese factor, but still so good. Thanks! Cheers!

I embraced the 80s Moodies as it was all new. It was happening as we all were growing, and changing as well. Patrick Moraz on synth! Yes, that Patrick Moraz ! See what I did there? I saw them on tour in '89. All the greatness of the band was on full display. On these two tracks they appear to be influenced by Depeche Mode. Thanks for your enthusiasm Brandon!

Great tunes, “Other Side” is my favorite track on that album - the percussion really stands out on both tracks. I’m not familiar with “Deep” and I’m not sure I could have guessed who it was! Very Alan Parsons-esque in parts. We saw them live when they toured for this album, The Fixx opened for them! You would enjoy their song “Built For The Future”.

Here's hoping it won't take you forever to react to the two Moody Blues songs that I consider their best of all the rest: *The Land Of Make Believe* and *You And Me,* both of which were on the Moody Blues' 7th studio album, *Seventh Sojourn.* Both of them have soaring passages that give me chills. Why not check out The Best before going down the entire rabbit hole that is the Moody Blues discography?

The Other Side of Life--the opening oddly reminds me of the Alannah Myles song " Black Velvet "--happy coincidence, perhaps 80s production/engineering. The Moodies' version of blues, perhaps? Our host pointed out a resemblance to a Glenn Frey(RIP) song, that's true too. Tasty and tasteful, the Moody Blues in a nutshell Deep-- You can tell it is a Moody Blues song, style-wise, even with the 80s engineering/production/synths(if this was done in the 70s, you'd have heard Mike Pinder(RIP)on mellotron)Excellent

Mike Pinder was the Merlin of Rock, and when he left, a certain magic left with him. But he was a good teacher, and the other throbbing members each had and have their own magic, as displayed in these two great songs. Of all bands, I owned the most albums by the Moodies and Renaissance, followed by King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, and Pink Floyd...all of whom are still very much alive musically, if not otherwise, today. Hayward and Lodge should get together with Jon Anderson, Ian Anderson, Annie Haslam, Robert Fripp, Peter Gabriel and Pink Floyd. Prog Aid Benefit Concert for the suffering people of the world today. Totally agree on Pinder. His arrangements and use of the mellotron were atmospherically driving their early sound. I’ve seen them 26 times and they closed with Ride My See Saw every time. The Pat Moraz stuff was okay, but he was a bit of a hot dog performer and didn’t meld well with such humble band mates. There’s some really good later stuff like Wildest Dreams, Slide Zone, Out There Somewhere, Talking Out of Turn, etc. But I cherish those seven classic albums and that’s the sound I seek before dawn and in the late evening. I think Question of Balance may be my favorite, but love them all! Oh, and yes! Prog Rock wears very well!

The 80's Moodies aren't a particular go-to for me but they are always a good listen! 👍 My all time favorite albums are Days Of Future Past and Seventh Sojourn, with the later being the one I most listen to as it's gorgeous and often dark and melancholy. 🥰

It went to number 4 in the Netherlands, number 12 in the United States, number 16 in Canada, number 36 in the United Kingdom and number 39 in Australia.

@@retroreactions.... 🤔At first I thought you were making a joke about something I mentioned on Patreon! 😅🎅 Yeah, "Just A Singer" was played a lot on rock, hard rock, and classic rock stations which was probably outside of your normal sphere of influence? It's one of their more up tempo high energy songs, it's really good but I like thee rest of the album better. (slow, dreamy, melancholy music is more often my jam! 😁😭)

Class and quality , but I get a lot of this with favourites re-visited Brandon....... often missing the magic 'hooks' which their earlier music had. Same with newer Genesis. Good, but not inspired.
