The point of the song is that the people calling person in the song a loser that should dump the girlfriend are probably the same guys that are doing that to their girlfriends

@@Gmenpg Yes, it is. It would sound strange especially in the late 90s early 2000's if he said I wrote "him" off. It's a role reversal song so the pronouns are change to drive home the point. If it was sung by a woman it would have a different meaning and tone.
