I absolutely love seeing people discover Wintersun for the first time, and react with such jaw-dropping surprise to all the different parts, melodies, and compositional layers (upon layers), that went into making this gorgeous masterpiece. For me the transitions with Jari's range from growls to clean vocals is just phenomenally flawless. And wonderful Kai..like a human Machine Gun! The stories their songs tell is just as amazing.. A true 'gallop off on a quest' across snow-swept wintery landscapes, this song has always filled my heart to bursting with love and pure enjoyment. One of the most beautifully epic songs you will hear in metal. I saw an interview where Kai Hahto was asked: - Now that in Nightwish, how come you don't do that incredible stuff you did on Wintersun? He laughed and answered: - You don't do things because you CAN, you do what serves the song. Also....the bass Player Jukka is now Official Nightwish member . Plus: Finland has 70 Metal bands per 100,000 people (population of 5.6 million). NWSU🤘😎🤘.

Excellent informed review and reaction. A truly phenomenal band. As well as Wintersun I would highly recommend Ensiferum, the band Jari was previously in. Their first 3 albums are particularly god like in quality.

I love love love Wintersun. They get shit on a bunch for taking their sweet time on things but I love this band. I wrote my masters thesis to Wintersun. I don’t know what It is about this band but I just zone out when listen to them.

You can't go wrong with Wintersun. They're epic. If you want epic, but silly epic, I highly recommend The Mighty Masturbator by Devin Townsend. Go with the studio version from Deconstruction. It's a metal roller coaster.

When you ask why these Nordic metal bands are so good, look at it this way: in Finland alone, there are more than 2500 metal bands in any given year. This means that to make it big or to make to a world stage, one must by default, become the absolute best in their genre. The same reason why Premier League is the best, there so many leagues under it. Most countries might have a few hundred metal bands or even less, thus the climb to the top is somewhat easier. Add in Sweden and we are looking at over 5000 metal bands, you have to be god tier to musician with those numbers. At least this is how I reckon it is, just my view.

I have seen Wintersun live 3 times and they sound just as good live as they do here. They are one of the best live bands that I have ever seen. Oh and their drummer is Kai Hahto, now also the drummer for Nightwish, also is married to Floor Jansen the lucky guy.
