lol not working with Wintersun also,...is the founding drummer of Wintersun and has been in the band for 17 years....working with nightwish also haha=P

@@Ineluki_Myonrashi On 6 August 2014, it was announced that Hahto will be playing drums on the forthcoming Nightwish album, replacing Jukka Nevalainen, who went on hiatus from the band due to insomnia, and Hahto performed on all live shows since that date. On July 15, 2019, Hahto became Nightwish's permanent drummer following Nevalainen's decision not to return to the band. In December 2020, it was announced that Hahto would be the drummer for the new lineup in Finnish black metal band Darkwoods My Betrothed, who had become active again.

The drummer is Kai Hahto who is also the current drummer for Nightwish. At the Wacken concert it's still Jukka but anything after that such as Wembley, Buenos Aires, Tampere etc it's Kai on drums. He's still involved with Wintersun too as far as I know but Wintersun takes ages to release anything.

Jari, the singer actually is a massive Devin Townsend fan. And as for a Dragonfirce audition, both Jari and Teemu would play circles around them, thery're insane
@evagronlund17863 жыл бұрын
Love your reaction, it was hilarious! Jari does look like an angry elf, but he's super talented and so is the rest of the band. Time or Loneliness are great songs by them.
@Always-fd7pk3 жыл бұрын
Your comments are hilarious! Jari always reminds of one of those Night elves from WoW tbh😂 His talent can't be human, that's for sure! He's the one who composes and arranges all of the music. Please do "Time" from the same rehearsal session next! 🤘🏻
@Garbox803 жыл бұрын
I think I've read that the lead singer and the composer Jari has said that he has done pretty much everything ready but the drums, he apparently told that he knew that Kai would do something he would never even think about. And that is some pretty hard pounding right there. I think they have done this live too (well this WAS live rehearsal, but...) so Kai came up with something awesome that he CAN reproduce live too. I fI could do that double bass drumming, I'd be having cramps and be exhausted after two minutes of this song! And of course the whole composition is awesome, it has that ambient "lightness" around that heavy part that makes me like it rather than just be anxious.

For a better idea of just what the hell Kai was doing back there on the drums, watch his drum cam of this (live in Nosturi, Helsinki) - whether as a video or just on your own. On top of the stupidly long blast beats, there's a whole lot of complexity that tends to go under the radar because of all the other stuff going on in the song. Also, aside from Time and Land of Snow and Sorrow, check out Winter Madness (possibly Live in Nosturi if you want something to watch while you listen). It's definitely a more raw sound than you'd find in later releases, but the guitar solo is absolutely insane and, especially in that live version, has some great drumwork.

Yessssss thank you for getting to Wintersun, I knew they'd blow you away and I'm glad you enjoyed it. The lead singer, Jari Mäenpää is most well known for two things. One, he has only one lung. Two, he was the lead singer/guitarist for a band called Ensiferum. Kai Hahto is a man of many hats. He is currently the recording drummer for Wintersun, the full-time drummer for Nightwish and is apparently the recording drummer for another Finnish metal band called Darkwoods My Betrothed. For your next slice of metal pie, I would like to recommend something quite different - "Make It Stop (September's Children)" by a band called Rise Against.

I agree with the others who have suggested you check out Time next from the same session. You used the word "overwhelming" at one point when you were listening to Sons of Winter and Stars and I agree with you. All of the elements are great but I feel like they only really come together with real impact and harmony in the second half of the song. "Time" is also complex and deep, but it is not overwhelming in the way that this one is. And it has more emotion, especially in Jari's vocals.
