This song sounds like when you’re coming out of depression. You’re not fully okay yet but you’re choosing to be positive. “Don’t let it get away” . I remember when this came out it was so popular. I didn’t mind though, I love this song. It’s not their best though

My son saw them perform live at Bonnaroo Music Festival about 4 years ago. He was awakened one morning to their sound check singing this song. He said he knew the day was gonna be a good one. :)

After the Zoo Tv tour in the early 90's, he discovered that wearing the sunglasses helped a lot with his eye problems. He's had a running problem with glaucoma for years even before then. He keeps the sunglasses on to protect his eyes from the light in an attempt to keep from going blind entirely.

Awesome song and very insightful reactions! U2 is one of the best bands of all time imo, this song is a amazing but not near their best! They formed in 1976 in high school in Ireland and it's still the same four guys still making great music today, and they don't have a single bad album in all that time imo even with switching up their sound so much over the years. If you guys wanna check out more U2 I would recommend starting with songs like Sunday bloody Sunday, New year's day, bad, where the streets have no name, bullet the blue sky, with or without you, one, the unforgettable fire, until the end of the world, pride (in the name of love) ...... I have to stop myself but they have endless amazing songs, the strongest discography I know of any band over such a long period. Keep up the great reactions guys!

Appreciate the honest reaction. However, on Bono's vocal delivery, you said it at the beginning of the video. It's a song about a man who has lost everything, but still finds the joys in life. That is NOT a character who would have a clean polished voice. U2/Bono have always been artists whose no all-in on delivery of their art. They often perform in-character. Sometimes the character is not as obvious a character, other times it is bold and brash. It depends on the "voice" or style of the piece. This was not meant to be a super pop song, in the way you wanted it - clean, pretty and polished. This is a pop song in terms of pop rock structure, but in terms of the character of the song, it is worn and dirty. His voice and delivery are intentionally unpolished. The gravel and cracks are not cleaned up (autotune was available and already common at the time). Lyrically, every verse isn't just about being happy, almost every line of the verse starts with something dirty, worn, or grounded, but ends with something lifting through it. On the video: This isn't a strict storyline. It is a collage. It seems mundane, partially because it is. This is everyday pieces of life. It is at an airport - where the mundane meets the extra-ordinary. It is the everyday life of traveling/commuting. Yet it is also a literal point of take-off where you can go anywhere in the world. It is also of note, that the video focuses on the airport, and NOT a destination, so figuratively it is about the journey. So is the video mundane? Yes, it is intentionally so. But does it make sense for ANY song (literally and figuratively), NO! Even within their own catalog it does not make sense for many of their hit songs - Angel of Harlem, Mysterious Ways, Desire, Pride, New Years Day. I can go on. So that assessment doesn't hold up.

So glad about your real reaction. I've been a U2 fan for 30 years, this song is ok, the album ok but I'm so glad you stated your real opinion. SUBRSCRIBED! This song came out in 2000, after their most amazing albums, Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, Unforgettable Fire, War. This song is standard fair, the video average, it's not a true representation of U2. They have at least 20 better songs.

Blige. 😏Well she and Bono released a song from one of Bono's previously popular hits "Mary J. Blige, U2 - One Love (Official Music Video)" MJ is one of my favorite artists she has some great tunes too.
