Good morning from Lake Jackson. I live 11 miles from the mouth of the Brazos River. Kevin is a low key local hero around here. For those of you who don't know, Lake Jackson/Clute/Freeport has been one of the world's largest industrial complexes since the 40's. The two largest employers in our region are Dow and the Brazosport Independent School District. Originally owned entirely by Dow, it's now parceled out to a variety of petrochem companies. Kevin's song is based on a true, personal story. But, even if it weren't his story, it's still a true story. Almost every guy I know has cycled through the plants for a time at some point in their lives, and almost every family I know has lived the events in the song at one point or another since 1942. The absolute truth to this song makes me misty eyed every time I hear it. A lot of people look down on us blue collar types, but we and our families have gone through Hell to build this country. This song is an anthem and should never be allowed to be forgotten.

This song never fails to get a tear out of me and I am ENTIRELY unashamed of it. Men who give their all for those they love deserve the utmost admiration. These tears are an expression of that admiration for those who gave us everything and are no longer here to receive our gratitude, or for whom we could never repay their kindness. Like our boy Gandalf said, I will not say do not weep; for not all tears are an evil.

That heavy bass is like the railroad sounds you hear in train songs. That's the sound of the refineries on the Ship Channel. I worked there and saw men die on the job. Every morning before the whistle blew, I'd throw up in the parking lot, take a few deep breaths, and cross the bridge into the shipyard where we made the jackets for oil rigs in the Gulf, praying I'd make it out alive.

The best music moves us, touches our soul and taps into our deepest emotions. I’ve been learning to play this song on my guitar the past couple of weeks because I love it too. Thats what us Dads do… keep the wolves away. Sorry for the loss of your Dad. But, he clearly did a great job raising his boy to be a good man! Prayers up for you and your family brother. 🙏🏼❤️

Great Reaction my friend. This one hits soo much home for me, since he is talking about my hometown. I remember when this exact tanker ship went down, and caught on fire. My dad worked in the refinery all his life. Lost him a couple of years ago, and just lost my stepdad last week. Both of them were amazing men, and they both loved each other. They wanted the best for me and my lil sister. Keep the wolves away for yours now fam. Blessings to you my new friend.

I just lost my Father Nov 15th... This song has resonated with me since the first time I heard it! My father was fighting cancer, but alive! This song has impacted my life in 3 specific ways... How my Father protected us and sacrificed when no one noticed... How he beat cancer the first time, and fought so hard this time too... He was still keeping the wolves away until the end... And how this song is my son's favorite song.... Because he knows that I am doing my absolute best to keep the wolves away... Sorry for venting, I am just a human that feels this song in my heart.

My dad worked himself to the bone so that me and my siblings could go to college for a better life. He still found time to be with us, it didn't matter if he was dead tired coming home from working in the fields in the SC summer. I love him and my mom so much for what they did. Losing my mom a few years ago made me realize how much I took her and my dad for granted. Now my dad and I tell each other we love you as much as we can.

This is biographical. Pay attention to the props in the video, as he ages. His art work, the phone, etc. I was fortunate to see him in Midland Texas. I lost my mom to cancer in January of 2018. I was only 10 so I was way too young to lose someone that important in my life. She was my best friend while I was growing up, we did everything together. She slowly slipped away over the span of a few years. Day after day I watched as she got weaker and weaker until the cancer was just too much for her and she was just gone. That feeling of coming home from school and she’s just not there in her bed waiting for me still hurts to this day. I’m 17 now and can’t even remember her voice which sucks. I just wish I would’ve spent more time with her because I was always too scared to be there when she slipped away and now I regret not being there. And I’m supposed to just keep on pushing like it never happened. My dad just moved on like he was just throwing away an old, torn up shirt. I just don’t know what to do anymore. She was everything to me.

I used to go fishing with my daddy though I didn’t fish Yeh that sounds stupid ! I just wanted to be wherever he was ! He knew I never liked to see him kill a fish he caught He used to say Mary I’ve got one time to close your eyes and put your finger in your ears Thanks for the memory Rickk I’d forgot this memory !! It’s so difficult to watch your cry over your loss of your dear daddy……but you need to cry sweetheart because tears are a balm to the soul I wish I could comfort you Just give you a hug 🫂 This is what you were born to do Rickk So many off us on here can relate so much to your loss I was daddy’s little girl ! I want to see him coming running when I get to Heaven He’s the first face I’ll look for on that day when I go home He loved our young baby regardless of the disabilities he had ! It didn’t matter to my daddy Harrison was his grandson Yes he was sad at the time our son was born for our sake Ill give you a laugh dear Rickk I alway give my son over to daddy when he needed to sleep and my daddy would whistle over him There might not have been a recognisable tune but our son always fell asleep instantly What I’d give for one more day with my dear daddy He was a King among men ! He was my everything He died in 2010 and i will never ever get over his loss The only thing keeps me sane is the love of my dear husband and our young son who was 22yrs old two weeks ago but is still a little child !! I wouldn’t change a hair on his young head ! As I’ve said before Rickk don’t be ashamed of your tears for your father It’s such early days I don’t even know how your holding it together but this dear Rickk is your platform and for all of us who love and care for you so much to give you comfort in anyway we can ! God bless you and your family Rickk Your daddy will never be gone while your here Hugs many Hugs I send to you over that great big ocean that separates us God bless and comfort you xxx❤
