Metaal head here... Metal is a weird genre in that it has a million subgenres, and often metalheads prefer certain set of even just one subgenre. Unleash The Archers would be under the sub Genre Power Metal. Power Metal tends to be very high energy and fast and often has fantasy themes in the lyrics. Unleash the Archers song Lyrics are difficult to get without the context because they make concept albums that tell a (fantasy) story (written by the vocalist Brittney Slayes), and it's kinda hard to understand what it is about if you don't know what the story is or where in the story a particular song fits. Definitely would recommend more of them though, they rock our. ' Awakening' By them is also really good

And whoever says UtA isnt metal, sorry, but no: Two of UtA's biggest influences are DragonForce (speed metal) and Iron Maiden, one of the OG metal bands (Check out The Trooper, Run For The Hills, Number of the Beast, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Fear of the Dark). Metal is a whole blanket term for a TON of sub-genres. Power Metal, industrial, black metal, Nu Metal... the list goes on. Generally speaking I think it’s a group of musicians often fronted by a vocalist (or several) built upon a core of electric and bass guitars, and drums. “Metal” I think invites “raw” into the emotion, but honestly my understanding is pretty rough too. Please take a look at “Nymphetamine” by the band “Cradle of Filth” for a little peek into “Black Metal”.

Whoever that was in your live stream that said this wasn’t metal is clueless lol. Metal is a huge umbrella genre that has many, many sub genres. Next up in the metal genre taste testing needs to be Symphonic Metal, particularly Nightwish. Symphonic is the metal roots, but they spiral out into power, folk, heavy metal, etc. love me some Britany from UTA, but the lead vocalist for Nightwish is easily a contender for best vocals of the present time (in ANY genre). Checkout anything from Nightwish’s live performance at Wacken Open Air 2013 and let the live energy flow through you. (It was recorded and mixed for a DVD/official live album, so the quality is top tier). Best starter songs from that show: Ghost Love Score - very cinematic and grand, both operatic vocals and clean/heavy melodies. More change ups in the music than you’ll even know what to do with. Storytime - traditional song structure with higher tempo music and vocals. Romanticide - heavy and crunchy metal. Great harmonies with male and female vocals. Song of myself, Ever Dream, Ghost River, any many more honorable mentions. Every song is so different, yet so well fitted within the vibe. It’s truly hard to explain until you see for yourself.

This particular niche of metal is typically situated in what is called a wider swathe of AOR. Someone mentioned Amaranthe's Nexus, and that would tie decently close to Unleash the Archers. If you venture outside of the female front vocals, you could check Masterplan, or a number of Swedish acts (though a lot of them stray from prog metal to death metal). Other hype kinds of tunes: Extreme - Play With Me (late 80s fun: ANYONE that loves guitar MUST hear the minor masterpiece at the 2:25 mark) kzbin.info/www/bejne/amiYmGOcj7Osrbc Giant - Time to Burn (pure bluesy step on the gas) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYbKoWhopaiHia8 Allen/Lande - Another Battle (progressive power metal) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bajFnWypodeEobM Heart - Black on Black (criminally overlooked) kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2KmhJVsod1njdU h.e.a.t - shot at redemption (bluesy roots) kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZeZdWinhZ6Kd8U Hardline - Hot Cherie (cult 90s classic) kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXfUaGSgndl2iJI This is a toe dip into the myriad genres of metal/hard rock without delving into the death/black metal. There's three things specifically that makes this song (and Awakening and many of their other songs) classify as "Power Metal"; (1) the melody and progressions are mostly in major chords as opposed to minor (just google it), (2) the kickdrums (the ones drummers hit with their feet) are galloping like a horse, and (3) clean lead vocals by a tenor. Dio is the primal example of this kind of vocal style in early metal, and the genre itself was kind of mastered by the band Stratovarius. But there are of course tons of others now, and also other early examples. Stratovarius is just arguably the kind of "defining moment" for the genre.
