Waylon was the father of the Outlaw Movement in Country music. The Outlaw Movement was a breaking of the traditional music being pushed by the Record Labels. They took control of their music styles and brought in song writers who weren’t getting the attention they deserved. This was epitomized by the album Wanted! The Outlaws, which included music from Waylon, Willie Nelson, Jessi Coulter (Waylon’s wife), Billy Joe Shaver, and Tompall Glaser. Every track is worth listening to. So here they are - My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys by Waylon … Honkey Tonk Heroes by Billy Joe Shaver … I’m Looking for Blue Eyes by Jessi Colter … You Mean to Say by Jessi … Suspicious Minds by Waylon and Jessi … Good Hearted Woman by Waylon and Willie … Heaven or Hell by Willie … Yesterday’s Wine by Willie … T for Texas by Tompall Glaser … Put Another Log on the Fire (Make Chauvinist National Anthem) by Tompall and written by Shel Silverstein.

Billy Joe wasn't on the Wanted Outlaws album. Just Waylon, Jessi, Willie, and Tompall. This was the first platinum record in Nashville.

Waylon was a badass. He did things HIS way in Nashville when they told him it wouldn't sell and wouldn't be popular. They were very wrong. To understand how other legends thought of him, listen to Hank Jr sing The Eyes of Waylon. Powerful.

Waylon was the best. He also played bass guitar for Buddy Holly on that final Winter Dance Party tour. Waylon gave his seat on the airplane to The Big Bopper. Waylon's son Shooter Jennings, grandson Whey Jennings, and step grandson Struggle Jennings are all performers. Also his wife Jessie Colter. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJLKemZjZbp4j80 Medley of Buddy Holly Hits by Waylon Jennings.

There was nothing like seeing Waylon live. Growing up in Texas you could find Waylon in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area as well as Austin. If you were lucky Willie would be there, too. He did a wonderful show on Austin City Limits back in about '89 that is very enjoyable to watch.

Waylon was way, way, waisted in this particular tapping. He was always high in the 70’s but usually he got all the words right and was much tighter than what you see here. I loved him no matter what shape he was in, I wasn’t much less messed up myself back then.
