God I love Waylon so damn much. He died way too soon and had he lived he would be undoubtedly the best country and western singer of this generation. Thanks for your reaction.

Waylon was an absolute icon. The Balladeer and singer of the theme song on The Dukes of Hazzard as well a member of "The Highwaymen", country's first supergroup. Speaking of going crazy, you should really check out Waylon's "I've Always Been Crazy" probably my favorite of his. This is a deep, deep hole if you continue to dig at it.

"Now her hair was jet black And her name was Codeine She thought she was the queen of the Basin Street Queens She got tired of that smokey-wine dream Began to feel lonesome, on'ry, and mean" So yeah, drugs, but codeine, not coke or any of the others. It's a mild painkiller, and it's very addictive. If you have heard of people drinking cough syrup, it's because of the codeine in it. Very addictive. I adore Waylon and all of his music, and in 1975 I was 15, and I love this song. His music has a strong Texas-style rockin' country sound. Listen to his song "Bob Wills is still the King" to get a good taste of the Texas sound. I strongly recommend listening to The Outlaws album, Waylon, Willie Nelson Tompall Glaser, and Jesse Colter, Waylon's wife and a fine singer on her own. Her biggest radio hit was "I'm Not Lisa" in the early 70s. Tompall's "Put Another Log on the Fire" is a classic! Fun reaction, I enjoy watching you explore some songs from my life, you young'uns need to have the opportunity to hear good country music!

Waylon and Johnny Cash were roommates. Johnny would fall asleep and Waylon would forget his key. So he kicked in and replaced a lot of doors. Waylon wrote and preformed the theme song for a TV show. The song was Good ol' boys. The show was Dukes of Hazzard. Also where Daisey Dukes got their name

Steel Guitar. It was a staple in old country. It's played like a guitar layed down flat, usually with a "slide" bar in one hand and a pick in the other.

I believe it is a reference to drugs, yes. The song is expressing that the way he had been living, outlaw style, was killing him. He had wrecked his health, was in debt up to his eyeballs, was paying alimony to 3 wives, and was in trouble with the IRS. So he was wanting to get a new start, and turn things around. But the way it is written, the listener can take it the way he wants -- either about a black-haired woman named Codine, or about his partying lifestyle with drugs. It's a great song.

That is a steel guitar and it is a common instrument in a lot of the old country music not so much in the modern country music though I’ve heard some people call it the pedal guitar because it has foot petals just like a piano and I’ve other people Call it a slide guitar because of the metal slide bar you use with one hand, but I’ve always known it as a steel guitar because you pick it with one hand like a regular guitar

Yes, he could’ve been talking about coke. I think that the lady’s name, “Modine” was a metaphor for “Codine.” Waylon was classified as Outlaw Country, and there were drugs involved. He even wrote a song, DON’T YOU THINK THIS OUTLAW BIT HAS DONE GOT OUT OF HAND. It’s a true story.

How about reacting to "That's The Way Love Goes"? It was written by Lefty Frizzell and Whitey Shafer. The story goes that Lefty offered it to Merle Haggard first but Merle said Lefty should record it first. When Lefty said no Johnny Rodriguez said he would and it went to #1 (?). Lefty recorded it before he died but not a chart topper. When Lefty's wife needed money Merle recorded it and it went to #1. Merle donated all the profits to Lefty's wife. More to the story but I want to be brief.

That is a steel guitar. It produces a distinctive sound in much of country music. I"m going Broke Down South of Dallas (Singing a little guitar and a little steel mixed in kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2SvfGSDqZh2kKM) Freeborn Man (Singing and tearing up the guitar kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6DNhqODhdllrM0) Surf Medley (Instrumental kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ_MhKdmrs2lpac) I included links because I think Junior Brown is someone that I had to see play live to really appreciate what he was doing. His band is him, an upright bass, his wife on rhythm guitar, and a drummer.) Thanks for this reaction. I hope you have a great day.
