Waylon & Buddy were very good friends. Buddy's dad recorded him at some point early on. Anyway, after he gave up his seat, when they went to leave, Buddy said I hope you freeze to death in that ole bus & Waylon said well I hope your ole plane crashes!! They were both joking of course, but Waylon never lived that down!! I think that's why he got into the stuff! There's so much more to his story, but ya sure can't tell it all here! I suggest his book & any documentary! He lived a very interesting life!! I had to get up to take my meds so I jumped on real quick. Hopefully I'm feeling better tomorrow!! Hope y'all enjoy your weekend!!

Waylon's got a huge catalogue, his love songs are so beautiful, his fast songs are so fun with his great guitar playing. Check out his concert at the opry in 1978, wow it's so good, you'll get an idea how upbeat most of his songs are. He credits his guitar playing to being influenced by the late great Buddy Holly, as Waylon played in Buddy's bad for a short while, played with him the night Buddy Holly died along with Richie Valens and the Big Bopper in 1959.

The incident happened in 1977. Waylon wrote and recorded the up tempo song "Outlaw Bit" for his album "I've Always Been Crazy" and it charted in 1978 as a single. Waylon recorded this slow version (with a change to the word "bit") in the '90s and it was released posthumously on an album entitled "Waylon Forever" in 2008.

Waylon does go back to the late fifties, but his heyday was pretty much all of the Seventies. This song is a play by play account of when the DEA arrested him for cocaine possession in 1977. The charges were eventually dropped. Waylon, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson & Kris Kristofferson came together to form the super group, The Highwaymen in the mid-eighties which lasted until the mid-nineties when Cash & Jennings began to have serious health problems. Waylon Jennings: 1937 - 2002

Waylon goes way back to the late 50's when hen he played bass for Buddy Holly, and actually gave up his seat to I believe Richie Valens on the plane that crashed with Buddy Holly on it. The Outlaw thing came around in 1977, when he and Willie were fed up with the Nashville country scene. They ended up playing for hippies and cowboys in Texas, and grew their hair long. The others who fell in with them were Johnny Cash (probably the original Outlaw), and Kris Kristofferson. That was when the whole Outlaw thing happened. Waylon and Willie both hated the Nashville thing, and their lock on Country music, but the people loved them and bought their albums. Thus, the beginning of Outlaw Country!

Love some Waylon. He's country. But in the 50s he played guitar for Buddy Holly. He was supposed to be on the plane with Buddy that crashed. But he gave his seat up for Richie Valens who was sick because the bus' heater was broke. So Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper JP Richardson all died in the crash. Waylon lived cause he wasn't on it. Waylon and Willie were a huge duo in the 70s.

It’s also the business model for most Texas Country and Red Dirt artist who don’t pay anything to the establishment and make money on touring and merch along with direct CD sales profit. Go ask an artist like Roger Creager if he wants a pay cut to sign with a Nashville label. Good music is rewarded with a loyal fan base and the artist keeps full creative control. It’s no longer Nashville rejecting talent, it’s talent not needing or wanting Nashville. These Outlaw country artist paved the way and the impact they had to allow successful independent artist to have an outlet outside of the “business” can not be emphasized enough. They are legends because their impact is evident in any quick Texas Country Red Dirt google search and they left it better then how they found it. It’s a meaningful legacy and worth celebrating.

This is Waylon's reworking of his classic "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out of Hand?" Yes, he did go way back to the '50's where he played bass guitar for the late, great Buddy Holly in the early days of Rock and Roll. He lost a bet for his seat on the plane that Buddy Holly chartered that crashed. For decades he felt like he was to blame for the plane crash because he jokingly said he hoped the plane crashed because he was going to be riding on a bus in the winter with no heater. At various times he was a roommate in Nashville with both a young Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson and they were doing more drugs than folks would imagine someone could survive through. June Carter straightened out Johnny Cash, eventually, and Jessi Colter (his wife and a country star in her own right) finally helped Waylon straighten his drug addicitons. Their free wheeling lives, and their rejection of the so-called Nashville "sound" is what got them labeled as being Outlaws to the current country music scene of the '60s and 70s.

Waylon Jennings tied George Jones up and put him on the couch, after George Jones punched him in a drunken rage. They talked about it on the George Jones Show from the 90's.. There's a clip of it on KZbin.

It’s not that old a song. It’s a jigged up version of ‘this outlaw bit done got out of hand’. He decided to slow it down a bit and it had a nicer effect I think
