"Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got out of Hand" is a better upbeat song of his.

I’ve read the Waylon biography and the true story of how this song became about and how he was involved in a cocaine bust was funny as hell, with Richie Albright flushing the cocaine down the drain! Lol!

In the 70’s Waylon was in the studio recording. His label sent a courier from New York to Austin to deliver some coke. The FBI followed him the whole way. The reference to something that was long gone is that as soon as they busted in the producer ran in the restroom and flushed it. They still arrested everyone including Waylon but had to drop the charges because there was no evidence.

Some people have called it out, but for a bit more detail, this version was recorded in the 90's but lost until about five years before he died and produced by Waylon's son and his backing band. The original was released back in 1978 and was a (relatively) young man's reaction to being branded an "outlaw" for not toeing the Nashville line and to me, this one feels like an old man looking back on the same events.

Outlaw Bit is the original song released in 1978. It's a true story the DEA busted in the studio in 1977 because a package of cocaine had just been delivered and they'd followed it. Richie Albright flushed it down the toilet. Waylon was arrested but charges were dropped. This was his other version he released towards the end of his career and life. Y'all should react to Outlaw Bit, great song.

Two songs I think you would enjoy are Dumas Walker, by the Kentucky Headhunters, and the Tractors song Baby Likes To Rock It. Not saying any more about them except that they are fun fun fun.

I think his original recording "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit Has Gotten Out of Hand" was a tongue-in-cheek take where Waylon was just being ironic. Clearly, he had been deeply affected by the arrest and hurt also. He had a lot more to say. I'm glad he got to re-work the song and get some angst off his chest.

You need to listen to the Highwayman, from The Highwaymen. Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash. They are all magnificent in their own rights but together we’re pure magic!!!

I think Waylon was haunted by the arrest. The original song said Outlaw "Bit" it was livelier and is well remembered by fans. I discovered "Outlaw SH*T" on KZbin and I love it more than the original. It feel like Waylon still had more to say about the incident, which seemed to still hurt Waylon even years later. I hope he was able to get it out of his system with this performance. RIP Waylon!

I looked this up on Wikipedia. It comes from the album Waylon Forever. The backing is by rock group the .357's and it was co-produced by his son Shooter Jennings. The album was released after Waylon's death in 2002.

But now that youve heard this version first, you guys may actually lrefer this over the more upbeat song he originally did. I personally love the earlier version from the 70s but to each their own.

The original Waylon song is "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out Of Hand?" and is a classic Waylon-thumpy-bass-beat song. Listen to the original released in 1978, it's on YT. His son, Shooter Jennings, recorded the background to his father's rework of this song a few years before Waylon passed. The story is true, as others have posted. Shooter is a wonderful musician in his own right.

Waylon’s True Story! This is later in his life. Waylon first sang of this event (Don’t You Think This Outlaw Bit) is a must react to. It was written and recorded shortly after his arrest. It’s a much harder driven song.

I much prefer this one to the original fast paced one. Waylon's (step)grandson, Struggle Jennings, made a rap remix of this under the same title with Yelawolf, roughly 13 years ago before Struggle went to prison. I liked that version too, though I'm not typically a rap fan.

Waylon, is the man. One of my most favorite singers. Literally cried for days when he passed. Listening to his iconic voice never gets old. I wish they'd come out with a movie about Waylon and Jessie Colter's beautiful love story. It's as great as Johnny and June's love story. And if someone hasn't commented, Johnny Cash and Waylon, very good friends from early on in their careers and they were actually roommates at one time. Here's a better version Live Version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5LZZXuerMaHgKssi=TCwcjgfPJlO41LQk this song

This song was recorded late in Waylon's career and is a more meloncholy remix of his original version. Waylon in his peak years was a hard partying artist that challenged the Nashville machine and his label RCA by insisting that he be allowed to use his own band rather than studio musicians on his albums. He just wanted his recordings to sound like they did when performed live. In poor health and suffering from diabetes, which caused him to have a foot removed, this song I has always given me the feeling of the sadness of a man mho late in in his life is looking back on his life with some regret. Of the over 300 recordings I have of his songs in my collection this is probably my least favorite. Waylon could cover any song a make it sound great. His versions of songs like Simon and Garfunkles 'The Boxer', Fleetwood Mac's 'Rianna' or 'MacArthur Park' with the Kimberly are some excellent examples. Of his original songs there are so many great ones to to list. A few of my favorites are 'Mental Revenge' 'Cedartown, GA' 'Never Could Toe The Mark' 'This Time' and 'Honky Tonk Blues' just to scratch the surface. Like this song some songs he recorded different versions of over his career. Songs like 'Just To Satisfy You' he recorded with slower and more upbeat versions as well as a duet with Willie Nelson. His duet with Hank Jr on 'The Conversation' a song in tribute to Hank Sr is one of his best. "🎶You know I always love to listen to the stories about that Drifting Cowboy Band, and that man. You know when we get right down to it he's still the most wanted outlaw in the land...🎶

I think I heard someone say his son Shooter helped produce this version of the song. Don't know if it's true or not. If it is, he did a damn good job in my opinion. Because I think the tone of this version goes way better with the song than the original.
