The cliche that’s always repeated is that Weird Al parodying your song is a sign that you really made it as an artist, but the reality is, going back even to his earliest albums, he’s also parodied a lot of flavor of the month artists and one hit wonders who were just big at the time of that particular album. So yeah, sometimes he takes on an iconic, untouchable song and just has fun with it. Other times he takes something kind of disposable and produces something a lot more fun. This, in my opinion, is definitely one of the latter cases.
@RadioJosiah2 жыл бұрын
"Taco Grande" is a prime example -- a beast of a track, which is a parody of "Rico Suave," a song nobody remembers. If you like Mexican food, you've gotta check that one out.
@Saber00032 жыл бұрын
I'm not gonna say the original is an all time classic song, or that Iggy is a talented artist. That being said, Fancy is a jam in my opinion. Its got a distinct beat that she flows well on. The lyrics arent of any real substance but that's not at all unusual for rap. I think this parody is proof enough that the song itself is fine, its the artist people don't like.

Well, to be honest, most of his songs were parodies of one hit wonders. Name another song from the Knacks besides 'My Sharona', or by the Greg Kihn band besides Jeopardy, It was just surprising when he picked Michael Jackson and Madonna. Even when he did 'Smells like Nirvana', nobody ever thought they would be anything more than a flash in the pan or at best a cult classic.

Every reaction has missed the fact that when he mows the lawn, he runs over the CAT. Also, for those of us old enough to remember, there is something very 'Schneider' (TV sitcom "One Day At A Time") about Al's get-up. Except for being blond (Schneider was brunette). The character was the apartment building handyman and considered himself a 'ladykiller', so it's in keeping with the double entendres and suggestive lyrics.

In concert, he changes outfits often, and for a cheesy love song, Weird Al comes out with a crushed velvet coat and a button up shirt with only the bottom button buttoned. My wife and I had front row seats, he walks out into the crowd, stood on the air rests, humps the air air in front of her face, and then started dragging his hand up his body, collecting sweat and slinging it on my wife's face. I thought it was hilarious until she grabbed my head and kissed me. My beard was soaked in Weird Al sweat. I've never felt so honored.

There are so many things about this song/video so here’s just two: Did you notice the 27 on the door? Al has hidden the number 27 in almost all of his albums. On the cover of the album Poodle Hat, for instance, there’s a boy scout with a 27 on the patch of his uniform. It’s not surprising he would do a song or two about home maintenance. He graduated high school at 16 as valedictorian then went to CalTech where he graduated with an architectural degree.
