I don't think either one has a "better" voice than the other. One is a baritone and the other is a tenor so they are different and they complement each other so well. Whether you prefer one over the other is just a personal preference, although I personally think it is really cool to hear a baritone as a lead singer. Back then you had great baritones like Elvis, Bill Medley, Levi Stubbs, David Ruffin, etc. whereas today the majority of male lead singers are tenors who all try to sing higher than the next guy - or rely on auto-tune to make them sound higher.

These guys were singing in their own separate groups before they met in the early 60s. Bobby Hatfield - the shorter bloke with the blonde hair - was in a group called the Paramours, and when one of the other members of the group left, Bobby teamed up with Bill Medley, the taller guy with the deep voice. According to Medley, the duo changed their name to the Righteous Brothers because African American marines would call them that due to their soulful music. The term Blue Eyed Soul originated with these guys.

You do know that the video you're viewing is well behind audio we're hearing. One of the reasons so many of yesterday's groups had such a great harmonic blend is because from the groups beginnings they were performers. Today's singers have it backwards. They make a recording then they go out in front of the public. Most of yesterday's performers spent many years honing both their harmonies and their performing skills, usually before audiences that varied between a handful of people to larger audiences, before they ever record anything.

Performers in the 50's and 60's spent hundreds of night performing in little clubs learning how to sing or play live. Eventually, they may get a recording contract. These days is exactly backward. Record a song; then learn how to play it live.

The Righteous Brothers were originally an American musical duo of Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. They began performing together in 1962 in the Los Angeles area as part of a five-member group called the Paramours . In 1964 music producer Phil Spector came across the Righteous Brothers when they performed in a show at the Cow Palace in Daly City, CA. where one of Spector's acts, The Ronettes, was also appearing. The rest is history.

I am always amused at how many reactors try snapping their fingers to this song, but it is just not a finger snapping song. No, they were not siblings. What made this sound so good was this producer Phil specter who wrote and put these people together and created what was used here and on many of their songs was “the wall of sound”. It gave them stacked.voices in the background. And here you see it partially live with the those male and female singers behind them. You don’t hear words from them but a lot of high pitched oohs and ahhs. But even tho they weren’t brothers they had by this time been 5ptogether a long time and were the ultimate professionals. They had a long career. I love rock n 4oll heaven.

Some groups have at least one member that adapted their style of singing to blend in with the other singers. An example of that is Crosby, Stills and Nash. Crosby and Stills were from the U.S. and were already singing together. Nash was from England. When Nash tried out as a new member he first wanted to hear them sing together. Then he said to them something to the effect give me a minute because he had to figure out how to blend in with the sound he was hearing. The end result is the smooth, blended sound of Crosby, Stills and Nash that we hear on their recordings.

This song holds the title as the most requested song of the 20th century. I think with all these KZbinrs reacting to it in recent years that it may also earn the title for this century as well. It continues to live on, with a renewed breath through the younger generations that are discovering all this great music from the past. This song has been featured in TV shows & movies (a famous scene with this song in Top Gun with Tom Cruise). I think whoever told you that they were siblings is misinformed, although a quick Google search would enlighten them to the truth. Bill Medley & Bobby Hatfield were not related at all. Righteous Brothers was their "stage name" so to speak. Although they mostly performed as a duo, each will sing a solo, depending on the song. It is said they both wanted to do Unchained Melody so they flipped a coin to see who would sing/record it. :-)
