I live in Hong Kong for two months. In general, people here are really nice since they are very friendly to foreigners. Almost all the people here can speak fluent English, so you will never sense the language barrier. Though people are sometimes very busy with their work, they always value every minute of entertainment.

I went to Hong Kong in May this year. As a Chinese, I think that HK is really different from the other cities in Mainland China. The beautiful view around Victoria Harbour at night left a deep impression on me, and there are so many tall buildings in Central, which made Hong Kong one of the most advanced cities in the world. And it is a humanistic city as well, maybe the sound of the traffic light is noisy and annoying for most people, but it is designed for those who have problems in their sight. I really love HK, and I also love your videos about China!

Having grown up here, I can attest to Hong Kongers not being unfriendly to strangers. What I mean is we don't typically strike up conversations with strangers, and service workers can be cold or sometimes even rude, unlike in other places where they are expected to smile and be friendly. e.g. as a local, I've asked a minibus driver whether I can pay by Octopus (because I didn't immediately see the machine), he rhetorically asked whether I could see one, to hint I needed to pay by coins. Let's just say there's a higher threshold before some stranger decides to speak to you to help you.

I presume you're aware that as a PRC passport holder and not a HK passport holder you need a permit to enter HK if you're a Chinese citizen which you must apply in advance for and pay a fee ( I think around 20 USD) But the good news if you are not travelling on a Chinese passport then over 70 country's passports are granted a 90 day visa on arrival which is completely free!

All the lovely things you said about Hong Kong's quality of life is true. The less savory part that you wouldn't necessarily be aware of is the abysmal median wage to rent/property value ratio that makes it far less glamorous. For sure, an issue that plagues all big cities even on the mainland to some degree, but it is unfortunately the most severe in Hong Kong. Hopefully something is done about it soon so the majority Hong Kongers can continue to live good lives in this beautiful city.
