About that segregation in the bus, its not it. Public buses in Jakarta always have 2 sections. A section for females only, another section is for everyone (including female). Females can sit anywhere. But males are not allowed in the female section. As sad as it is for me to say this, but back in the day, harassment to females inside public transports was quite concerning. So what you saw was an effort to prevent that. There's nowhere in Indonesia, especially public services, where they segregate genders.

You must stay in Jakarta until 17th August because it was Indonesia Independence Day..there are big ceremony in National Monument and Presidential Palace next the monument. And it will be in history because it was last Independence Day ceremony in Jakarta Presidential Palace because next year ceremony will be held in Nusantara - the New Capital of Indonesia in East Kalimantan.

Slum area is here. But also the modern area. But most western media only records the slum area, but they always stays and enjoy at modern area. Ironic, isn't it? I know people that stays at SCBD area, which is the most prestigious area in Jakarta, but when they work for their news media, they even took an effort to Kapuk Muara slum area to make their reports, which is very far away, with many heavy choke points in-between.

FYI, the trans bus is not using segragation policy. There are reason why they 'specializing' the front seat part only for ladies and dissable person, is to avoid sexual harrasment (which the probability is often happen when the buss is crowded in rush hour). But if you want to sit with your couple, you could and allowed to do it in any part of the buss. No one would prohibited it... Enjoy your trip 😊🙏 😊😊

Local trick here :) there's actually a trick if you wanna see a better view on the top. see, on 3:38 there's a white-black building behind the national monument, that is actually the national library. And on top of it, it is actually a public lounge, you can enjoy a waaayyy better view there since the national monument is on the part of your landscape view. there's also no maximum time or whatsoever, and it's free! plus you can even enjoy it while chilling on a sofa.

Hi, Jay and Carol. Glad you enjoyed Jakarta. The construction you saw is the extension project of our MRT, currently there's only a single 16-km MRT line. While the train you rode is the older commuter train service, there are 5 lines of them. A new 3-line LRT is being on trial right now.

Kota Tua station is quite modern actually. Older train station are the ones like in Pasar Senen or Manggarai, in the Empire Style. Kota Tua is in Art Deco style, probably updated during the 20’s when there’s construction boom in Netherland Indies. Bandung is one famous example of a whole city redeveloped in the new style.

Hello there, i'm still catching up to all of your Indonesia series, and so far i think you two are very interesting to watch! Just wanna add more context about the partition/separation on the bus, it wasn't because of the religious or cultural thing. It just a prevention to protect women (and children) coz everytime on rush hour in the morning & evening, the bus are almost always veeery packed with people and most of them are men. So its just a precaution to prevent any bad thing that might happen on that sort of situation 😊

2:31 so just fyi, Jakarta, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur all have both MRT and LRT. The only difference is the standard that Jakarta, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur take to their designated mode of transport, for example Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur LRT both using 6 car train using conventional rail with standard gauge (1435mm) track with third rail to power the electricity for the train but the Singapore LRT is 2 car train using rubber wheels and third rail to power the train.
