Tip :) : You didn't even visit what Rotterdam is MOST famous for (but you did mention it)... being the biggest harbour in Europe aka The Port of Europe (the harbour part is almost just as big as the city major). From its center Rotterdam actually stretches out about 55 km to the West along the Maas river. A lot of this area near the river is harbour or harbour industry and in ends in the Maasvlakte 1 and Maasvlakte 2 where the ships come in. These are are both (re)claimed land (like the famous Flevopolder) and the Maasvlakte 2 was the biggest civil engineering project since the Delta Works and reclaimed almost 5.000 acres (2000 hectare) of land. There are also beautiful non-commercial beaches on the Maasvlakte. At Hoek van Holland, which is also part of larger Rotterdam city area you can visit the "commercial"/regular beaches. The harbour can best be toured by boat (Spido I think), the Maasvlakte beaches by car (advised to bring your own food&drink), and Hoek van Holland is just a short train ride away or by car.

@@IfWeGoTo PSA there are also cube houses in the town of Helmond, they might go for cheaper, being like in...Helmond and not in the center of Rotterdam. Like OP Said, it does take people to get rid of loads of stuff and furniture and don't have to mind tourists walking around, maybe trying to open doors and so on. In one of them (or a couple) are a hostel, so you could stay there for a night or longer, but me personally wouldn't want to live there. I live some 15 miles from Rotterdam and while looking fun, they also look very outdated. Especially when you look up some of the interiors online.

You can go to the Rotterdam harbour with a boat ride. You cant go in the harbour with a car if you dont have business being there for work. This is to keep thieves out from stealing stuff from the containers. I have been in the Rotterdam harbour with my dad to pick up a big speed yacht that was delivered there for the yacht company he worked for. The big giant cranes lifted the boat of the ship. The harbour is huge one of the biggest in the world.

Liqorice is a taste you come to appreciate as a child. I believe flavours are definetely learned behaviour as a child. Lots of Dutch people like liquorice and raw herring, most foreigners dont. Not only Dutch people like liquorice and herring. In Sweden they like both liquorice and herring and in Ukrain they like raw herring with mashed potatoes and olive oil. The flavours of drop aka liquorice come from Italy and they think Dutch liquorice is too light of a liquorice flavor, so it can be even worse. To foreigners it probably tastes like rubber with an awfull taste, but most Dutch people love it. My father actually ate too much of it and the doctor told him to quit eating liquorice. If you really want to try something disgusting it is Surstromming from Sweden. It is fermented herring which fermented for months in a tin can that is about to explode from the gasses. The Swedish call it fermented, but it is really rotten fish. I believe once the fire department came to an appartment building in Sweden, because they thought there was a gas leak, but it was someone who opened up a can of Surstromming inside an appartment building. There are lots of Surstromming challenges on KZbin. It is the smelliest food in the world, that is why so many people want to do the challenge. I believe it is even forbidden to open a can of Surstromming in a public place. When you do Surstromming challenge you wish you had a liquorice challenge. Lol

@@IfWeGoTo The ship thing was an (apparently bad) joke. Fun fact, they actually used hemp fibers (hemp was completely legal those days), mosses and black tar. The same ingredients as licorice btw (no, bad joke again… obviously I really don’t like licorice). The English have what we call “Engelse drop” (English licorice). Those are small square flat licorice slices between slices of flavored soft candy and they usually come in a mix of different small candies. Those I can eat one or two as the candy masks the licorice flavor. I will look for that red licorice you mentioned. Tip: Do not try “zoethout” if someone offers it, it’s a trick! It’s just the actual dried plant root from which the main licorice ingredient is normally extracted. Also watch out for Salmiak it’s the powered form of the extracted ingredient and ammonium chloride is its chemical name. They can all be bought as candy. I hope this info protects you against Dutch licorice shenanigans. As spoken by a victim… (all in good fun of course XD).

It was definitely a shock coming from older towns in Europe, but definitely has its own charm!!! We loved it, it’s a super cool city. Definitely excited to see how it continues to improve in the coming years!!

Sorry about that 😅 We’ve since upgraded cameras that have improved technology for that, but we just can’t justify using a huge gimbal!
