Yeah, this song was a classic in its own time. He also helps other young blues stars get started. In the mid-00s, I met a then 18 year old who was invited to a show we helped with (he had dated my boss's daughter) who had already played for KWS and BB King by then.

If you liked this tune, you will love Kenny Wayne Shepherd's first big song "Deja Voodoo" from his debut album "Ledbetter Heights." It was the first of his tunes I'd ever heard, and it reminded me a lot of Stevie Ray Vaughan's style. I immediately bought the album and I still love it. Most folks thought he sounded a lot like SRV as well - so much so that a couple of years after Stevie died, Double Trouble drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon toured with Kenny, performing live together. Fun Fact, Kenny Wayne Sheppard recorded the album Ledbetter Heights when he was 17...

Blues. Kenny's father's a well-known blues radio dj from Shreveport, LA. Look for the album, '10 Days Out'.. He tours across the South, finishing in a concert with old, established blues artists, playing along the way. Guests meeting up with him include BB King, Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown, Pinetop Perkins and others that played with Muddy Waters. My favorite is one he did with Bryan Lee. The song was, 'Tina Marie'.. if you want to hear some ROCKIN', this is it.

I grew up in the same town in Louisiana as KWS and had mutual friends, it wasn’t uncommon to show up at parties and he’d be playing. His dad was a radio DJ and ended up buying the radio station. I got to see him open for Jeff Healey and BB King at a blues festival in 1994. I believe he opened for the Eagles around that time as a teenager. He is a phenomenal guitar player heavily inspired by SRV.

EXACTLY! I started enjoying music in the early 70's .So I was raised on great music. We had AM radio back then.So it was all played , either Soft or Hard Rock! We didn't have FM, until late 70's.But Country Music was Real Country back then. People didn't put music in a genre for many years to come. Most times we didn't even know the lyrics.Ive sang songs for over 20 years, the wrong words. But hey it sounded good to me.lol But yeah, he needs to listen more with out his eyes. The message is very clear. All these things he talks about in the song, mean nothing in the long run.Like Blue on Black. They redid this a few years ago for first responders, it has Five finger death punch, Brian May, Brantly Gilbert, it is alot heavier , but still really good.

There's a cool detail in the lyrics that I've never seen any reactor notice: the last phrase of the choruses before "blue on black" alternates between the incorrect form of the negative 3rd person ("don't bring you back") and the correct form of the negative 3rd person ("doesn't bring you back"). I don't know if it was a conscious decision or not but whatever the reason, it gives a certain "unpredictability" to the chorus. 🙂

Always liked KWS. My favorite from him is probably “somehow somewhere someway”. But to be honest I like Jonny Lang’s style a bit better. Lang’s song “walking away” got me through a very dark time in my life! Seriously suggest checking that one out

I remember when I heard his music for the first time. Couldn't believe how young he was. You guys need to check out Johnny Lang. The song "Lie to Me" is incredible because he was in his teens as well. They both had great songs around the same time frame if I remember correctly.

I love watching Lex react to rock and roll and blues music. She puts me in mind of a rocker from back in the day. I can totally see her setting in a room with a black light, posters on the walls, a smoke being passed around and her just rocking out. Oh, and she is gorgeous too. Am I wrong? LOL

If you listen to the lyrics, they're saying stuff like 'Blue on black' and 'tears on a river', 'Push on a shove', 'whisper on a scream'. Basically, when you put the color blue on black, it doesn't change. Apply the same logic to the other lyrics. You can't hear a whisper over a scream. Tears in a river are so small they're not noticeable. Took me some time to understand it as well.

Kenny is awesome! He and Jonny Lang are two men who started playing blues about the same time. They're both great. Check out "Shame, Shame, Shame", "Aberdeen", and "Live On" by Kenny and "Lie to Me" and "Angel of Mercy" by Jonny..

I am so happy for you both that you are allowing different kinds of music in your life. I know quite a few people who just listen to one kind of music. That''s kinda sad. There is so much music to digest and take in. Imagine only watching one genre of movies and that's it. Only scary movies and nothing else. What a boring life that would be..lol It's the same with music. There is something to enjoy in every genre, there really is. You just have to open your mind and heart to it. You two have done just that!!

Good music is good no matter what kind of music it is. ~Miles Davis There are simply two kinds of music, good music and the other kind … the only yardstick by which the result should be judged is simply that of how it sounds. If it sounds good it's successful; if it doesn't it has failed. ~Duke Ellington
