Thanks to you and your lovely wife for this video; I'm an 83 year old lady and am only 5-feet tall and skinny, and learned a lot about using my cheapy-but-relatively-light B&W corded trimmer. For some reason, I have trouble holding the lower handle when trimming or edging;, it's easier for me to hold onto the pole below the handle. The helpful male neighbors always correct me, but I just tell them that they're taller, younger, and stronger, haha. Another note: I find it better if I walk in the direction of the spinning (does that make sense?) so that most of the dust goes behind me. Thanks, y'all are the best.

I wish I could talk to you one on one about these things cause I'm certain you would have all the answers to my questions with great detail that I'm looking for. But that's besides the point. An expert explaining the how-to and beginner demonstrating it for the other beginner (me) who is watching the video! Great idea! I watch a lot of instructional videos and it looks so easy when the pro demos the technique. Then I try it and it doesn't go so well. Now, I'll know what to look out for and when problems no doubt happen anyway that first time I try it, I won't be as likely to give up. Didn't take your wife long at all to get the hang of it. Great job to you both and thanks!

Thanks for posting this. I appreciate you showing you use it upside down and explained not all trimmers will work upside down. I'll try that next time. I noticed when you bump for line you did this on the lawn vs the drive or walk and that cuts the lawn a little too short. Do you do this because it doesn't eat the bump head up as quickly as if you did on the drive?

A lot of great comments for your wife, but I have to say that you are awesome with the weed-eater and so fast. I got a lawn edger about six months ago and after you have "cut the edge" a few times it becomes much easier to follow the edge and I would not go back to the weed-eater.

2 stroke engines will run upside down no problem. Because the oil is a component of the fuel mix, it gets delivered to the crank and head the same no matter what orientation it's held. 4 stroke engines have the oil in a sump and must be run so gravity keeps the oil there. You likely know this Jason, but for others who don't. Mrs. Creel did good.😉

Your wife is struggling with the string trimmer because she isn't tall enough to hold the head perpendicular to the edge. She may find it much easier to trim edges with the gear head rotated 90 degrees on the shaft. Perhaps do a follow up video demonstrating this setup?

The important thing while learning to edge is to try and manage the height and depth of you blade/string line from the sidewalk. It takes a good amount of eye-hand coordination. Imagine you are "drawing a line" down the edge of the sidewalk and try not to concentrate too far ahead of where you're walking.

My dumb ass had to google it. I was helping my sister by mowing her lawn, she had mentioned flipping her trimmer to "edge" the sidewalk and driveway. At 49 years old, living in the country all my life, I had never "edged" a lawn, at least not like that. Turned out good considering I was using her Mickey Mouse, battery powered "weedeater".

First he said it was Zoysia, then he said it grows really fast? Only one of those is true. Zoysia is known for slow growth. I'll accept that though because his wife takes care of him and you need to keep the wife happy, so bend that truth and have a nice, warm meal that night LOL! She dug out into the lawn several times with the string trimmer and I was thinking, "Wow, what a great video to deter homeowners from doing this themselves" when you follow up doing a better job 10X faster. I'm sure that could be turned into a good spin on getting more work! Thanks for the video!

Good point. The first patch of grass was Zoysia. The second patch of grass was Bermuda which grows extremely fast. I guess I should have clarified on the video
@Troy-Echo
@Troy-Echo 4 жыл бұрын
@@lawncarelife :0) I was just poking fun at you. I've seen enough of your videos to know you definitely know what you're talking about so I knew it wasn't intentional. One of your videos is a part of the reason I went with Zoysia in my front lawn. You were one of several lawn care professionals and golf course managers that said you either had Zoysia for your lawn, or you wish you had the conditions to grow Zoysia for your lawn, and that if the conditions are right, it's probably the best turf available. I planted too late last year but I had 100% bare soil so I went ahead and seeded with Zenith Zoysia. A lot of bare spots that I thought were dead because the lawn wasn't established enough last fall still ended up recovering and most of my lawn has filled in very nicely. My lawn was too immature for any pre-emergence herbicides so I still have a lot of cool season weeds that are pretty much dead, and some warm season weeds trying to fill in, although much fewer than the cool season since the Zoysia has filled in and thickened up and claimed most of the spaces where the cool season weeds were. I have a fair amount of wood sorrel, clover, purselane (?) and sedge to contend with as well as some crabgrass, but I have 2, 4D, Quinclorac, Dicamba and Sulfentrazone which should take care of 95% of my weeds and provide a double whammy on some weeds. You probably know this but I was watching another lawn care professional (The Grass Factor I think?) and he was listing a report from a university stating that going from 1.5 to 2.5 modes of application on a weed produced something like 85 to 95 times more effective weed killing. Like I said, you probably knew that, but if not, it may benefit your business. How you apply 1/2 a MOA is beyond me, but I'm sure it makes more sense to you. Any weeds still left in my lawn I can hit with gloves, sponge and glyphosate on my lunch break day by day wiping the taller stuff after I stop watering the new seed daily. So thanks for the great information and being a part of my decision to go with Zoysia and have a nice lawn. It's a fair amount of work to get it established and moving, but Zoysia is well worth the work. I still need to do some top dressing, but I did enough work with the drag mat when I had bare soil that I can mow at about 1.5 inches with a rotary mower without scalping, so most of my top dressing is to satisfy my OCD nature.
