Pure class. Many men today don't even own 1 suit & you can forget formal evening clothes men and women.

Cab Calloway and the Nicholas Brothers, like all other African American entertainers, back in those days, had to be ten times better than everyone else, and they were.

This is from the film "Stormy Weather", released in 1942. Cab Calloway led that amazing big band, and of course sang. His most famous song is "Minnie the Moocher". He reprised it in the film "Blues Brothers". This video is amazing. The film also starred the beautiful Lena Horne, my dad's favorite singer. The title song became her trademark.

The Nicholas Brothers were the "BEST" tap dancers in the world. They did that routine in one take. They danced with such grace and as far as you turning your head away when they did those splits coming down those stairs, if you look closely, they had their hands in the middle when they landed. So there was no pain.

It was 1943, from the movie Stormy Weather. I love this type of music. Now for the brothers dancing. They are just in a league of their own. After just the first split, I had to freeze to get an ice pack. It hurt, at every split, just watching.

Oh dear. Such great performances they put out.

Look up movies with 'Whitey's Lindy Hoppers' you will see the 'new' dance from the early 1940s (it had been around a while, but Hollywood hadn't made a movie, as it was a dance coloured folks did). Extremely athletic dancing, and the girls get to show off their skill as well as the boys.

The singer was Cab Calloway, the dancers were the Nicholas Brothers. This was filmed in one take and is still considered one of the greatest dance routines ever recorded.

Hello , Thanks for the clarification, really helpful. Indeed their dance steps was heartwarming

There are a number of takes and cuts, most obviously where the Nicholas Brothers go from one set by the band to another, completely different set with the steps and ramps. But, yes, these guys were dong their usual dance act here, just for a movie.

Also the sound was not dubbed, but recorded live. (The technicians could not figure out a way to match the sound of the taps with the movement of their feet.) During this one take. Sound recorded live. Think of it....

It's a scene from a movie made in 1942 or 1943, called: "Stormy Weather" AND, there is a color version that is a bit longer!

Gregory Hines once said that you would need CGI to make biopic of the Nicholas Brothers. No human could imitate them.
