Lack of comments here is making me sad. This instrumental is great, btw the name is a part of the lyrics of another song from this album - Spirit Crusher, which I suggest to check out next. That's the last album of the band, unfortunately the lead member died of cancer. With all the musical progress they made through years and with all the influence to other bands I can't even imagine what they'd accomplish if they had more time.

When Chuck Schuldiner was diagnosed with brain cancer other musicians like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Snoop Dogg contributed to his medical bills. Towards the end of his life when he formed the band Control Denied Schuldiner took a backseat on his iconic thrashing vocals and got into more progressive melodies. Death notoriously had different people on drums/guitar/bass on every album but Chuck was the genius behind it all. Long live The King of Death Metal. edit: The song becomes even more profound when you learn Chuck wrote it when he was 15 about his deceased older brother. double edit: My favorite Death song of all time is Story to Tell on the same album, Sound of Perseverance.

Check out Chuck's other band, Control Denied. They are more melodic metal, and he wasn't the singer. They only got to release one album, 'The Fragile Art of Existence' but another was in the works before Chuck passed.

YES! DEATH is such a great band! So glad you hit them, don't let this be your last. There is MUCH more of them for you bro. Some of the more thought provoking lyricism in the metal scene too, covering difficult subject matters in a mature and nuanced fashion. Don't worry bout the drums on this track bro, GENE HOGLAN has you covered. This was actually one of their more subtle ones. Don't worry about views, it might take a while for the DEATH fans out there to find you. Unfortunately the name DEATH doesn't play well with the search algorithm. RIP CHUCK, you were a beautiful, kind soul taken from us much too soon. :'(

@Alpharius Omegon Sean Reinert (Human), age 19, died last year. I think both hoglan Christy wd say Sean Reinert, Human, was the best Deathndrummer In the tribute video, produced by a drum mag IIRC, hoglan & Tomas Haake fr Meshuggah talk abt how he busted open new realms in DM for them to explore, with all his jazz-DM fusion & general proggy DM drumming. And haake/hoglan both take great care to make sure that from the time he was 19 they took inspiration from HIM, even going forward in his career, more 7 prog & less DM. AND IT SHOWED in their work with Death.

‘I wish this was longer’ Well, actually, this song is kind of an instrumental interlude spanning the previous song and the next song. If you want to see what this leads into, you should look at the track this serves as sort of an intro to, a song called ‘To Forgive is to Suffer’ Fair warning tho, this was more a breath of fresh air amidst the storm. Everything else on this album is the storm. If you wanted more ingredients, as you put it, more instruments, more depth… maybe check it out if you’re so inclined Dope content, thanks for the time man

This band is THE best Death Metal band ever without hesitation. Start from their first album Scream Bloody Gore in 1987 and continue on from there. An all around agreed upon opinion in the metal community is that they have never released a bad album out of their only 7, all are regarded as Death metal masterpieces.

Their last album, which this song is from, is their most progressive and unique. Elements of Voice of the Soul can be found in plenty of their other songs, but is the only song where this sound is for the entire duration.
