Bruce's voice does often take a bit of getting used to. His voice is amazing, but atypical of most metal singers, so it is a grower. By the same token, Asami from Lovebites (who is often compared to Bruce in terms of style) similarly takes a few listens to get into, but once you do, her voice is incredible!

How could you not love that voice... If you approach any band on their terms (as you should), you literally can't deny his voice... What I mean by "on their terms": You should go in with an open mind and trying to understand what their followers see in them. And weither you'll be one of their followers doesn't matter, you can still appreciate the skill or appeal to others...

Trust me on this one... Savatage, the most underrated heavy/progressive metal band of all times. Hall of the mountain king, Legions, Sirens, all crazy songs and their later stuff like Wake of Magellian or Poets and Madman albums are just insane. Oh also the contrast between 2 singers Jon and Zach.

I got to see Iron Maiden live back in 2007 on their Golden Years tour as a birthday present when I was in high school! Even though by that point Iron Maiden were no longer in their prime years by that point, they were still the greatest concert I have ever been to! And also the nicest crowd I've ever been a part of! Iron Maiden really brought everyone together! Everyone in that crowd treated me like I was a long lost friend even though we were all strangers! And also I was in the back of the stadium against a load bearing pole but they made me feel like I was front row! I recommend their performance of Rime of the Ancient Mariner live from that tour! It was the first time I heard it and I felt lucky that seeing it live like that is the best that song ever sounded to me!!

A cool thing about Iron Maiden is that Steve Harris (the bass player) writes almost everything. However this eventually lead to Bruce Dickinson feeling like he wasn't contributing enough, so Steve agreed for Bruce to write a lot of the lyrics for the Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son album, which is my absolute favourite by them. They take it a lot more progressive sounding than previously and it's just a great album. Powerslave is a close second favourite album of mine.

You're wrong. Bruce wanted to make an acoustic album as the follow up to powerslave but Steve was against the idea and said the songs were poor. That hit Bruce hard and that's why there's no songs written by him on somewhere in time. When it came to writing 7th son Steve told Bruce his idea and it inspired him to write the songs for that album.

Bruce has a very unique voice. Very different style of singing to most metal singers. He has more of an opera style to it than the shouty style more commonly associated to metal. Personally, I love his voice. His range is wild. But I wouldn't expect everyone to as each to their own 😂 great reaction

This is probably one of Clive Burr's last drum performances. Afterwards he was replaced by Nicko McBrain and on the next album (piece of mind) he was the drummer. My opinion is that the style of the two is very similar, including who indicated Nicko was Clive himself, who switched bands with him. Nicko was from the Trust and went to Iron Maiden and Clive was from Maiden and went to the Trust.

Thank you, kirawasareactor! An old, grizzled metal head owes you a great debt for this video! I first encountered Iron Maiden with 'Live After Death' at about 14 or so. I was just coming off the back of seeing Motley Crue on the 'Girls, Girls, Girls', tour (Guns n' Roses opening, great show!). Big into hair metal. Big fan of Motley, big fan of Ratt, big fan of Poison (and will defend each to the death, so come at me, you bastards!) Jamming the tape into my Walkman (ask your parents!), I remember my young teenage mind being blasted to pieces (^_~) by Iron Maiden's musicianship, Bruce's soaring tenor and their dark (seemed like that at the time), raucous, horror-show imagery. This was something new. Something dangerous. This was like the first time reaching out for the flame and getting gloriously burned. That was many, many moons ago. Thank you for making this old man remember being fourteen again. UP THE IRONS!!!!!!
