I don't know much about Jane Child. But, she's supposed to be one of those musical prodigies that plays every instrument and writes and produces all of her own stuff.
@robertg3303 жыл бұрын
yes... she did all the instrumentation on this song. Jane is/was what was known as a "studio artist." Put her in front of a computer and keyboard and she could make the most amazing music... written, performed, and produced by her.

Hit it's peak on the charts around March-April of 1990...#2 for 3 weeks in the U.S. Only held out of #1 by Sinead O'Connor's Nothing Compares 2 U which was #1 for 4 weeks

Omg I'm so happy you reacted to this song. It came out in January of 1990, so yeah it's basically 80s. And it's hands down one of my favorites from that era, never gotten sick of it. ❤️ There's so many amazing songs from 1990. Checkout "Joey" by Concrete Blonde.

Jane Child is absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately, she was hurt by media attention paying too much attention to her hair and piercings rather than her music, which she played everything, as well as writing and producing herself. Prince was a huge fan of hers. Child only had one other minor hit, “Welcome To The Real World” which is a awesome track as well. She’s had a couple more albums since but stopped making music quite a few years ago. Her last public appearance was on The Wayne Brady Show, when he was fortunate enough to get her to come on.

Very well said. She was way too talented to be a one hit wonder. Her three albums were crafted with such detail and imagination.

Jane Child came out of nowhere in the first days of the 90s, and the world wasn't ready. If you listen to any hit song by one time girlfriend and musical protege of Rick James, Tina Marie, especially "Lovergirl", you can tell that Jane Child was channeling a similar sound and the same fondness for funk, and soulful, R & B belting. Jane Child's star rose and fell quickly, for some unknown reason, but she should have been HUGE.

@@PancakeMarshmallowDude I know I recommended this one, perhaps some others have too. I love the direction your channel is going, you're really hitting some great bands. Depeche Mode is my #1 fav. You really need to react to Strangelove, a DM signature track. You're venturing into New Order, my #2 fav band. Respect, True Faith, Bizarre Love Triangle are all classic. I don't think you've done any Smiths or Echo & the Bunnymen yet. You really need to. If you like New Order, Joy Division was the predecessor band when they were punk (and before their lead singer committed suicide). Joy Division's signature song is Love Will Tear us Apart. I'm absolutely loving where you are headed Bryson. You're making this LGBT man very happy with your content of late.

One of my 1990 favorites! I was in the 9th grade back then. She'd be more appreciated if she had debuted in this decade! I read that Prince really liked her!
@MegaTempo223 жыл бұрын
Prince was indeed a fan and they were both on the Warner Brothers record label that ended up owning Prince's masters for the longest time. Prince was a survivor, but sadly, the label took Jane down and didn't promote her properly after her first hit. She could've been huge. Her music still sounds fresh and forward thinking.

Yes it might have been 1990, but when I bought this,,,and a Megadeth cd on the same day, I admittedly was more impressed with Jane child then the Megadeth cd,,,only because I kind of knew what to expect on the metal album...Jane child's whole first album is a gem from first track to last...ahead of her time in my opinion...

I'm certainly ready for a Jane Child comeback. But she currently isn't on any social media of any kind to know of any new music from her. Talk about a musical genius who was ahead of her time (and not appreciated by Warner Brothers). She had "Prince" sized talent. Such an amazing and sadly underappreciated talent who had so much to offer.

It first came out on a 1989 album, but first released as a single in 1990 (single #2, as "Welcome to the Real World" was the first). So technically, both 80's and 90's would be correct for this one.

OMG I have not heard this song in 30 years. This song still hits hard. As a 45 year old longtime beat maker and song writer. This has so much fxxxxxx soul. And tbh, I had no idea this was a white woman. Had no idea she produced the whole song. I'm up with todays vines but damn this late 80s vibe makes me feel so damn good. This is on repeat. What the hell happened? This woman was ahead of her time. She even got Teddy Riley doing a remix of this. However the original is better, A big fan of Riley but Jane Child really got the groove right.

@@Funexpected Thanks. You too. But everyone is vulnerable to getting their hearts broken. No one seeks to have their hearts broken but in life there's no guarantee that you will succeed in your love life and that you will be immune to getting your heart broken. You can only do your best to find the right person for you. Besides Jane sings about this in this song if you listen to the lyrics. She says love cuts like a knife and she's scared to death of the person she fancies.
