This song changed everything. That bassline, the synth chords, the chord changes. She took The System, D Train, The Gap Band, and Herbie and mixed it up and created a MONSTER. An anti love song that makes you feel good. Classic.

She wasn't appreciated enough in the late-80s. This song for instance was only played on night rotation because she was considered sexually suggestive with that hand moving down. Jane Child is a real pioneer!

I was a huge Jane Child fan. I wish she would've had a longer and more successful career. She wrote, produced, & played nearly every instrument on all her songs (similar to Prince). So talented. I wish she'd make a comeback. She is married to Cat Gray from "Let's Make a Deal".

You're right, Jamal. This song did peaked at the #2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and peaked at the #6 on the Billboard Black Single chart both in the early winter of 1990. Jane Child is one of the first white female singers to do well on the black singles chart.

I know you didn't mean it the way I'm taking it, and you did say 'one of' the first, but that sounds like it's a recent thing, while Teena Marie was having number 1 hits on the R&B/soul/black charts for at least 10 years when this came out. You probably know that, but I don't want anyone who doesn't to get the wrong idea.

Great choice! This reminds me of my bar days. All these years later and this song stays cool. If you feel like it, react to Lip Sync Battle Zendaya v. Tom Holland. You will LOVE it.

Wow you’re goin way back to the good old MTV days with this one. When they actually played music videos. Another good one from that era is NuShooz “I Can’t Wait”

Jamal the 80's were the BIRTH of the music video with MTV. When it came out it was EPIC and one of the greatest days of my life. The tone was set in the 80's with MTV and the DJ's - I loved every minute.

This is about as perfect as any pop song could ever be. This may be over 30 years old, but it sounds just as good as anything being released now.

Keyboard: Fairlight CMI, The Father of everything we see right now. When it came out it cost $32,000, adjusted for Inflation it would cost $122,000. So yeah... I miss those days. That alone would keep so many untalented people SECURELY OFF THE RADAR.

Brah, loved this reaction. Been watching your reactions for years now and I don't really comment much but I recently rediscovered this one watching a "hits of 1991" thing and remember how back in the day when my mom got MTV they played this video A LOT, and as a keyboard guy I always took note how funky that bass line was and much that solo SLAMS! Anyway, keep up the good work. My shoulders were bumping too!

No one else sounded like her, the drums and keyboard in this song, as well as vocal, this is a BEAST of a song. I went right out and bought it back then. Amazing escalation on keyboard in the end too!! but that drum with that triple symbol beat is what grabbed me. It was super fun to sing with too.
