Those were the Korean ages. International ages are different than what you often hear BTS say about themselves, and , inexplicably, that American Taylor Mari uses. For example, *Jungkook was 13 years old* international age, when he joined BTS training. I think that South Korea is supposed to be switching to the international system.

Yay, more BTS! Please note: BTS are not like other kpop groups. They are the frontrunners who set the trends and have broken the mold on what it means to be kpop "idols." There is a whole looooooong history to the industry that they completely obliterated. For starters, the first two members came from underground rap and are true fans of the genre and its roots. The vast majority of rappers in kpop don't write their own bars and are there for the aesthetic (not true appreciation for the game). This is changing because of BTS. They have always had freedoms not afforded most kpop groups who were strictly controlled by their companies -- those others were told what to wear, eat, say, and think on their personal time. From the beginning, BTS has had control of their work and their lives (under guidance, of course, as they were quite young). But their CEO stressed that this was to be their work, their voice. Because they came from a small company (on the verge of bankruptcy), they did not have clout or money like the "Big Three" companies in Korea of the time. They were excluded, cut from broadcasts, mocked, disrespected, used as fodder on variety shows (which is a tool many kpop groups use to be seen by the public), and have had endless smear campaigns launched at them. All because they weren't "supposed" to be anything than a bunch of nobodies from a nobody company. When they broke through the west, winning Top Social Artist at the Billboard Awards in 2017, the entire kpop industry CRAPPED ITS PANTS. The Big Three scrambled to compete with these nobodies who their own country barely acknowledged (still not media clout). The entire kpop industry is still very angry that BTS has reached where they have without ever paying into the system or bribing media like the others have done. To be clear, other idols have no issue and appreciate BTS, but the companies and management -- whew, are they salty. Even after their 2017 win, BTS's exclusion at home caused them to seek other ways to find fans. This led to them pioneering the blueprint for kpop content on KZbin and social media. Before them, it was unheard of that the idols would speak directly to their fans, and those others had their words and actions strictly controlled by their companies. BTS had full access to their own joint account and would go live to say and do whatever they wanted (within sensible bounds, of course). They even started their own variety show where they play games and perform challenges -- without any crappy hosts putting them down. BTS have inspired countless trends that pervade entertainment and influencer culture, and have turned both kpop and the western music scene on their head. From using emojis to represent each member, to reacting to their own content, to speaking directly to fans, to putting on personal concerts during random lives, to sparking the movement of speaking on real topics, important topics, BTS is the reason kpop has even found its way to every mouth in the western hemisphere.

BTS are a different from other K-pop. They've always been different - they've always participated in writing and producing, their lyrics are always important, and they're way beyond the Korean industry now. There is some other K-pop I like, but BTS are their own category.

BTS have their fashion stylists who plan and provide their clothes and accessories. And it very common for the boys to wear their hair in different colours, not necessarily required for their MVs. They just like to change up their hair color. FYI, Butter is one of the 3 all English songs that BTS produced during the pandemic. BTS planned their Map of the Soul Concert Tour in 2020 and after their tour they were going to enlist in the military. But Covid Pandemic happened so everything was put on hold.. But the pandemic in a way was also a blessing because they produced the 3 all English songs - Butter, Permission to Dance and Dynamite. When this was released Jungkook, youngest, purple hair was 25. Most ARMYs say that BTS has moved beyond Kpop, but 2 aspects of Kpop they have retained, first is that they dance to a lot of their numbers, and second is that they always look fashionable

Dynamite, Butter and Permission to Dance are their only all English group songs, in a discography hundreds of songs deep. They were released during the pandemic as a mental health support pick-me-up for the world. They are very bright and happy for that reason, but not BTS typical style at all.

Fake love is from love yourself series. There's 3 albums in love yourself series; Love yourself: her, love yourself: tear and love yourself: answer. Butter is meant to be happy since it was released during the pandemic. You should see them performed butter at 2022 Grammy Award. They got standing ovation for that performance. Another happy poppy pandemic song is permission to dance. Yes, blue/purple hair is Jungkook. They are 27-32 yo now. Jin will be turning 32 next month. When they debut, they were 16-21yo. The debut 2013 so tha have been around for 11 years, the youngest Jungkook was 13 when he joined the company and he was 15 when the debut. Rm and Suga came from underground rapping, jimin and j-Hope was trained dancers, the rest learn to sing, dance and rap. Bts write and produced there songs. But the 3 all enhish songs was not written by theme, the did this during pandemic to cheer fans up whis easy dance and upbeat songs

Just a side note: every time I see someone young (in relation to me at least) react to Butter and "miss" the Usher reference my old *ss is dying a little bit on the inside. :D Your reactions so far are adorable. Be forewarned when you check out other artists (besides BTS as soloists) that no one compares to BTS. They are the biggest artists in the world for good reasons. There are some great artists in KPop, but BTS are remarkable. There is no one else like them. BTS debuted as a group in 2013. They have been around for more than a decade, so of course they are not that young. This isn't really KPop. BTS isn't really KPop, they have transcended it. But also, this song is just Pop. It's not written by BTS, aside from some changes they made. It's got western writers and it's all in English. The only thing Korean about it is BTS. KPop also doesn't mean Korean Pop. It is a very specific industry rather than a genre. S Koreans don't actually call it KPop. They call it Idol Music. It is what Suga describes as "integrated content" of audio and visual, music and dancing and fashion and MVs and variety shows folded into one entertainment package. Idol Music is kind of hard to explain without delving into Korean history and culture. S Korea does have other pop artists who are not Idols, and plenty of other music genres besides pop. BTS were always a misfit as Idols, starting as a gritty hip-hop group at a broke label, they were not the slickly produced, untouchable perfect Princes and Princesses, Idols, who populated the industry, presenting a perfected and flawless facade and singing mostly nonsense about fluff topics. They were honest and real, they wrote and produced their own music, they shared their real thoughts and raw feelings, good and bad, and spoke truth to power and addressed real issues of substance. The guys also didn't fit the exacting and specific male Idol beauty standards at all.
