This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Well, the best performance is the one you just watched but we're I to suggest another one from this show, it's Ever Dream. A lot has changed since 2013 with band members, and though still with the band, the vocalist, Floor Jansen, is set to release her first solo album next month. She's released four singles from the album and highly recommend the live versions of the first three (more organic than the studio produced music videos.) One point from this performance - it was #13 of 15 in the set list.

The best live Nightwish? It is whichever you have listened to last. This is simply one of the best live bands of all time. The order is not important, but I would stick with the links provided by Gabriel. They will all have high quality video and audio. I would personally recommend Storytime and Romanticide as your next videos, but go with whatever seems to be getting a lot of recommendations. I would also save The Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth until you are much more familiar with the band, as they both very deep songs, but in very different ways.

Each one is better than the last. 😘 And I would definitely stick to the live performances. NW is best served live. They are better live than most bands sound after spending weeks in a studio. And they can do it every night.

Finally a female. Floor Jansen no less! She's a bad ass with killer vocals. She can really freaking sing. I mentioned them before but if you haven't yet you should check out Jinjer. Tatiana Shmailyuk is an amazing vocalist. 'Pisces' has to come first of course. oh, and if you get a chance, on or off camera, check out Floor Jansen covering 'Shallow' by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga @ Beste Zangers 2019. Not my thing usually, don't care for the original actually, but it's a very good vocal performance. She does a lot of other stuff besides Nightwish.

All live shows are amazing 😊 Wacken 2013, Buenos Aires, Wembley. etc. My personal favorites at this moment are Dead Boys Poem and Sleeping Sun with Floor. Ever Dream is also still great from Wacken 2013. But you haven’t seen anything yet. Floor is really versatile. From doing death growls to opera to emotional in matter of seconds. After you checked a lot of Nightwish you probably will check some Revamp and After Forever. Floor her bands before she joined Nightwish.

Second, Nightwish is nothing but awesome live performances, however, this party at the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany on August 3rd 2013 was by far the most perfect show they have ever performed, and in front of an 82K + crowd. It almost seems like the universe was aligned perfectly on that night just for them because as lead singer, Floor Jansen put it, "The whole show was just magic!" And it also happened to be the biggest show performed together as Floor had only been with them for 10 months and was made permanent 2 months before this party. As I said, the Army is coming, so I'll leave it at that for now because you found the Nightwish rabbit hole and it goes deep. So buckle up and enjoy the ride. I had to double check to see that this was your first reaction to Nightwish....I'm surprised simply because every other music reaction channel I'm subbed to I only subbed to because they did Nightwish (and I loved them... the reactor). But I've been subbed to your channel for quite a few months now, not sure exactly, but since your first Iron Maiden reaction! So I had thought you had already reacted to Nightwish. Nightwish is VERY deep. Though considered a symphonic metal band, they have a LOT of songs that vary so much in style and genre that it will surprise you. The entire band is extremely talented, top to bottom, both present and past members. Truly top tier. Gabriel...as he always does, has already given you some of the details of the band since this is your first reaction to them. But I'll add... you have Tuomas, the keyboardist and creator of the band who write and composes 95% of their stuff is nicknamed "the metal Mozart" because he really is that talented at what he writes and composes..and he's pretty good on the keyboards too. Marko, the bassist (unfortunately he retired last year) is also a talented vocalist in his own right and has his own band he created with his brother in 1982 in which he's the lead singer, but in this band he's the bassist but has some vocals, and even a few songs where he's the lead vocals. And I don't mean to skip over the others who are also extremely talented... but then you have Floor Jansen the lead singer here. Her talent is pretty much unmatched anywhere. Yes, there are other vocalists that you can put on the same level as Floor, but there aren't many. Floor can sing any style, any genre, and her range and control is incredible. There's a saying I've heard... other singers sing what they can, Floor sings whatever she wants! And it's more than just her vocal talents, she has a presence and a charisma on stage that draws you in. I highly recommend you react to more Nightwish... you will not be disappointed. They have some really heavy stuff and some lighter stuff but most falls more with the "metal" category really. Follow Gabriel's list of music and you can't go wrong... though his list is far from complete (and knowing how many great songs this band has it couldn't be complete without including every song) and some of my favorites are not on his list. So if you do decide to dive into more Nightwish and you do decided to follow Gabriel's list, don't be afraid to go off the list as well. I have heard pretty much ALL of their music (that I know of) and there isn't a single song that I dislike.

That entire show at Wacken in 2013 was Nightwish's best performance for pretty much every song they performed. Some magical blessing was active that night!! Nightwish is one of the best live bands out there. They have made music that is much heavier than this, music that is more like folk music, music that is more classical and, above all, some long stories through music and stage performance. You should react to them again :-)

Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉. Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. welcome to the fantastic symphonic metal universe of Nightwish Band, their live performances are some of the things that come so close to epic that they get to be mythical and of course Floor Jansen, queen of the stage and goddess of music, she can sing anything in any musical style she wants (WARNING! her voice, her stage presence, her charisma, in one word: her "spell" is highly addictive). this concert (wacken 2013) is incredibly epic and deserves to be watched and reacted entirely, song by song, in particular I suggest these three songs: "song of myself", "storytime" and "ever dream" this performance of "ghost love score" is one of the three best performances of the nightwish band, together with "the poet and the pendulum" from 2015 concert at the london wembley arena and "the greatest show on earth" from 2015 concert in tampere - finland (actually there is a fourth best performance: "dead boy's poem" from the 2018 concert in buenos aires).

I personally have been doing this for about 3-1/2 years now. Many others already here in your comments have been at it longer. That should tell you something. There's no one possible answer to "what's the best Nightwish performance?" It doesn't exist. They're ALL *fantastic*. One thing to know, this band is best enjoyed LIVE. There have been precious few bands in history that are THIS PHENOMENAL live, and you just stumbled onto one of them. They're each and every one world class musicians, and they LOVE being a band together and making music for everyone. Their chemistry together is unsurpassed. Egos are checked at the door. Nightwish Fan here as well... Welcome to the World of Symphonic Metal... There are SO many awesome performances from them and Floor... I would suggest checking out "Storytime" and "Song of myself" both live versions from the same concert (Waken 2013). There so many others like Ever Dream, Romanticide, & Yours is an Empty Hope. Then when you want a real treat check out The Greatest Show on Earth (Tampre Version) and Poet and the Pendulum all of them live... There (in my opinion) is no better live band out there.

Welcome to the Nightwish Army!!! If you REALLY want to see this entire show, there is actually a Blu-Ray / DVD called Showtime/Storytime available. It's literally THIS CONCERT filmed at Wacken Open Aire 2013 and is one of the finest concert videos ever recorded, PERIOD!!!! Check it out and then delve into the deep sea that is the catalog of Nightwish going back to the late 90s. Just be warned, sometimes, they get pretty heavy. When Nightwish goes hard, they go HARD!!!!

Floor Jansen is the best singer I have ever heard before and there is not the best live performance from them. They are from 1996 with a lot of good performances. Please follow Gabriel's list. I swear that I've seen tennis pros that don't have an overhead smash like Jukka does. ANY live Nightwish that you're watching is the best. Anything from Wacken 2013 is mind blowing. 15 legit jaw-dropping hits, written and arranged by the Metal Mozart, Tuomas Holopainen. They've been performing since 1996 so there a huge catalog to choose from. Read Captain Gabriel's post below to get a great suggested list to play as well as a lot of info and background on the band. Yup, the Nightwish Army has some organization.

Some reactors have this as their first reaction to Nightwish and assume now they can understand Floor Jansen's vocal abilities. As much talent as it is displayed in this performance, she can do so much more. She is the third vocalist that has sung for Nightwish, and the most versatile. Just to give you an idea, she participated in a show called Beste Zangers (best singers) where she sang Opera in German (Vilja Lied), Rock ballad in Spanish (¿Qué se siente?), ballad (Shallow), musical theater (Phantom of the Opera), and even there she did not show her entire set of abilities. The driving force behind this band is the keyboard player (Tuomas) who writes, composes and arranges the music. The best Nightwish set will depend on personal preference. They only have good songs and great songs.
