first time listening to "Watershed" by Opeth (FULL ALBUM REACTION) *Part 1/3*

Well after a whole day of editing and rendering and pulling my hair out… I present to you part 1 of 3 of my reaction to “Watershed” by Opeth. I apologize for it being late but my poor laptop cannot handle rendering hour long videos anymore I guess! I will post part 2 and 3 tomorrow.
But about the album… wow. I have no words. Absolute insanity… come see what I have to think!

First Opeth album I ever stumbled upon - the band has been a centerpiece of my listening habits most of my life. My favorite album has changed a number of times, but it always comes back to Watershed. Such a cool timepiece in the evolution of the band where I feel they had perfected the sound they had been developing for several albums, and I feel this began their moving into New-peth material (which I also love, but it is different). Some says their best was Ghost Reveries, others say Deliverance, others say Blackwater Park. But there's something uniquely dark about Watershed, something that sets it apart from the rest of their discography which very well might be personal nostalgia, I can't say for sure. What I can say for sure is I hope you didn't skip Derelict Herds from the 'bonus' tracks. Such a shame they didn't end the album with it.

I understand completely what you mean about this album standing out compared to the rest (at least what i have heard). It is very atmosphere and mood driven and very, very gloomy. But flashes of nostalgic melancholy berate sections that I just live for lol.

Love this album! The Lotus Eater blew my mind when I first heard it in high school, and still does almost a decade later! By the way, I was a pirate on Halloween and also went to go see King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard that same H'ween night! What an awesome show! P.S one of my favorite songs is Inner Paths (To Outer Space) by Blood Incantation!

This album is way too underrated. It's among Opeth's best albums. Easily the best production aswell. I like mikael's low growls more than the screaming stuff which is why I prefer this album to still life. He sounds huge on this album

Watershed was a good album, but for me was the weakest of the “Oldpeth” albums. It started to feel kind of by the numbers. I think Mikael was sort of feeling that as well, hence the drastic change in direction for the albums that followed it. It might be their best mood building album though. They really leaned hard into the vibes they wanted to put out, and I’d say they were pretty successful in that regard.

Exactly my sentiments, they sought out too invoke specific emotions and certain feelings. Dread, nostalgia, melancholy, reminiscing about an old love that is long gone…. I got all that I think from it and then some. It’s beautiful and haunting and catchy. I dig it. I’ve only heard this and still life all the way through and I’d pick this for my own taste… but of course that’s the beauty of good music, everyone likes something different and no one is wrong! 😂🤘
