Can you tell us how the feedback for the pilot works? I've been looking for something like that for ages but I can't find anything similar unless it is directly hooked into the hydraulic line which is begging to snap your limbs if a joint or break in the suit well... breaks! Do they have their controls feedback hooked into the hydraulic lines or is it sensors hooked up to the limbs for both angular movement and then to the shock absorbers for the pressure the pilot feels on limbs? Can the pilot effectively slide the foot on a surface then or does that feel more like a constant resistance however they move when it a certain pressure instead of per say sliding your hand on a slippery surface while pushing on it making it feel like pushing through a thick slimy fluid.

@LexTenebris3 жыл бұрын
People can say what they want, but even at its most unstable and wobbly, watching the waves that pilot motion fed into limb control and limb control fed back into the pilot idea of where they were kinesthetically made it one of the most pleasant experiences of watching one minute of wobbly mech wobble around that I've had in quite a while. I think they can do something with the angles to get a little more inverse kinesthetic response to ground conditions, or at least just lift the toe a little bit as the leg comes up and it will be a bit easier to manage. There's a little bit of toe drag on some of the steps - but given the unevenness of the terrain in general that was being dealt with, damned impressive. I think there is definitely a lot of potential in this design. Even if you dropped it into the middle of a robot fighting league. That thing could lay out some serious kicks. Keep up the good work and solid reporting.

@numgun3 жыл бұрын
This is glorious, I think this machine has more capacity to become something commercially viable than Robot Fighting, since the focus is on movement, safety and racing (against time - not other players, an element that makes rally such a friendly motorsport). What surprised me is how they were piloting this in wet mud - I was expecting it to run on flat ground, a grassy field or even asphalt, anything cleaner than that. Its actually really cool this way, since it proves itself that it can operate in such rough and dirty conditions. The control system of "be the machine" in particular is something I really adore and how it restricts your moves if the robot can't move with its limbs. Just that alone probably makes piloting this thing super fun. To me the unedited 1 minute run was totally fine, especially in that mud environment - I'd expect nothing less than some clumsiness.

Very interesting! As a physics developer myself, I'd suggest adding some sort of dampening or springs to the feet, this would reduce the stress caused on the wheels and give a little room to "wiggle" but then again it might make the feet weaker at some scenarios. But hey rigid feet cause more destruction on the "joint" so you need to add springs somewhere. As some physicist thought me: "Rigid structure cracks, soft structure bends" So it might be a case of making the joints from another material entirely and not changing any of the components. I hope this comment is useful.

Maybe put yellow grip caution tape to lead the way to the pilot's couch. Even a 4 ton suit has issues with mud. Of course the extremities are the most susceptible to damage. Working in fine art I remember the irony of something being extremely heavy and very fragile. The builders are grunt scientists! These guys need t-shirts that read "Kiss me, I'm a Frame Runner."
