Angelina Jordan epitomizes the word ARTIST. There is something about every cover AJ does, they always sound much better than you have ever experienced them in the past. It is more than remarkable; it is astonishing how she affects one's innermost being by drawing you in and holding you as you anticipate each heartwarming phrase.
@EA-yd9vw Жыл бұрын
One of the truly remarkable aspects of Angelina Jordan is the return to the voice with minimal accompaniment that she allows after so many decades of great shows where the sight ended up winning over the voice. Thanks to her vocal abilities, her taste and her deep musical sense, a very young girl (and even at the beginning a child) has achieved this small feat of putting the voice back in the center of the game. Wonderful!

@albertphilippi4371 Жыл бұрын
Ivan Mendez was Angelina's (12y) guitarist in LA in 2018. In an interview with Alan Papier on his KZbin channel, Ivan told the story of how the cover came about. In a nutshell "Angelina doesn't have a wish list of songs, she decides spontaneously if she likes a song. After hearing this song she says great song and has downloaded the lyrics. Then Ivan played the melody and Angelina says" good but slower, slower , even slower. OK, well, let's start ". Then the cover was recorded in one take, Angelina sang the song here for the first time after her arrangement without rehearsing beforehand. 💯 *AJ* 💯 BTW, I read a comment a few years ago from a California medical officer stationed in Iraq. She reported that since she and her comrades heard this cover by Angelina for the first time, the song played again and again, every day and her tears also ran, a mixture of a little sadness and a lot of joy, the soldier described it as a warm hug from home . I would like Angelina to find out about her serious positive influence on her fans🤗

In my opinion, the gold standard for Angelina reaction videos, especially if they're covers (since she almost always puts her own spin on the song), is an approach where the/an original is shown first (maybe all of it or just a minute or so), before watching Angelina's version. This establishes a context, which will enable people to better understand her genius, making the experience of Angelina much more meaningful and, of course, more enjoyable. I think this method ought to be mandatory for anyone who reacts to Angelina! ;-)

Angelina reinvented this song, the original was more upbeat and faster pace (It did have the most amazing harmonies). Angelina strips it back, slows it down and tells us the story - she brings us the reality of the cold winter's day, the warmth of LA being just a dream. If you take a step back and consider how Angelina may have seen it - Living in Oslo, the winters can be cold, she has family in LA so had visited there, so, in 2018 she got to live the dream - uncle Mike setup everything for their move to LA - to make the dream real life...

Just two comments: if you listen to the smash 1960’s original by the Mamas and the Papas, you’d be more astonished. It was their song, their sound, their harmonies that were completely distinctive. Angelina does what she does-respects the original, but blows you away with her stunning uniquely beautiful take that makes the song hers completely. Secondly, I’m so glad you have earphones. Give yourself a treat and listen again to A Million Years Ago, or Billie Jean, or… Hard to believe, but you’ll be more stunned than the first time you listened.

Angelina Jordan won Norway’s Got Talent at the age of 8 in 2014, the prize for winning was $80,000.00, this money was donated to children’s charities. At age 8 her first charity performance was in Germany to raise money for heart disease. Again, at age 8 she does a telethon for Plan International Children’s Charity. Still at age 8 she performs for Norwegian Sea Rescue Society Charity. On the 12th of Dec still at age 8, she performs at Save The Child Nobel Peace Prize, 4 days later, even though she has a very bad cold, she performs for the Swedish Heroes Foundation against her doctor's orders. At age 10 she performed for the Norwegian Refugee Council Charity. Also age 10 she performed in Seoul in South Korea for Rotary International to raise money for children’s vaccinations. Angelina Jordan comes from a very wealthy family and does need the money, she, and her family want to share her wonderful talent with the world. This is what makes AJ and her family so very special. This information was on Alan's Pod Cast.

Hey Britt…another great reaction! I don’t read too many comments so I’m not sure of your background, however you obviously have some degree of musical training. Your comments really are very well informed and you are as attentive to AJ’s music as any reactor I have seen. Thank you so much for what you do. A couple of observations though, firstly you mentioned that the songs she chooses are really very well suited to her voice and style - yes, but I would also suggest that it is not the song that is necessarily suited but rather her arrangement or rearrangement that “just makes it!”! Secondly, you mentioned that you don’t know the song - please go and listen to the original! Fantastic as the original was, it really highlights the fact that not only does AJ have this amazing gift of vocal beauty but also an amazing ability to take an old song which has meaning to her and and totally redefine it! There are many beautiful voices out there but this combination is such a thing of beauty. Like many of my fellow fans I leak from the eyes regularly. I will also mention that this leakage is often now not really due to her voice but rather seeing the impact of her voice on the likes of you and your contemporaries - it allows me to relive my own first time on each song time and time again. Peace!

This is an iconic song by the Mamas and the Papas . I'm thinking Angie is 11 here and you can tell English is not her first language in the way she says certain words. She has such great taste in music and is so creative in how she chooses to sing these timeless songs.
@103mrg Жыл бұрын
richard The mistaking her pronunciation as some kind of deficiency is what people not overly familiar with her vocals conclude. She plays with the words to create interesting sounds. These are all stylistic choices. A friend of the family who has known Angelina since she was 2 commented that her level of English proficiency was so advanced at a young age that English, like Norwegian, is practically her native tongue.
@DonaldLancon Жыл бұрын
Just for the record, we have plenty of evidence that she grew up speaking (at least) both English and Norwegian [see first note below]. In fact, I'm not even sure it's correct to say that English was "not her first language" - it might be her "co-native language", as it were. Everyone assumes that Norwegian was her first language because she was born in Oslo, but that's not necessarily the case. After all, her parents speak at least 5 different languages between them [note 2], and Angelina had lived in at least 3 different countries before she turned 7 [note 3]. So the matter of what her native language(s) might be is… complicated. Now, at the time she recorded this cover (when she was 12 - everything she did with this guitarist was when she was 12), she had just moved to the U.S. after having lived in Oslo for the previous 5 or 6 years. So, it is possible that her English pronunciation had been affected by that. But when you hear her actually speak (not sing) in English in interviews around that time [note 4], her "non-native status" is given away more by her word choices than her pronunciation. 1. In addition to singing songs in English from the age of 1½, there is this video of her speaking both English and Norwegian to her pet bird at 3 or 4 years of age kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIjPp4WibJV3e5o and this one where she is speaking English conversationally at 5 or 6 kzbin.info/www/bejne/moGtfWmrZ7OYack (the video title claims she was 5, but based on the fact that she name-checks her sister, I think it is likely that she was already 6 [Juliette was born 8 weeks after Angelina's 6th birthday]). 2. In no particular order: English, Japanese, Persian, Norwegian, and Swedish. 3. Norway, the United States, and somewhere in the Middle East (likely Iran). Of these, it seems that she lived the longest in the U.S., according to an in-depth article about her from December 2017 (the relevant quote: "When Angelina was younger, her family lived different places around the world, mostly in the United States."). 4. See, for example, her interview on _Skavlan_ when she was 12 (almost 13 - about 6 months after this cover was posted) kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2jLm4qdabmiiLM (they speak Norwegian for the first 35 seconds and then switch to English) and this interview from just before her appearance on _America's Got Talent: The Champions_ when she was 13 kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmesi2CVoa-FaNU . For comparison, see this little promotional clip from when she was 9 (almost 10) kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpWTeHmId5Jlq5o just before her book was published.

It seems that Angelina might have a special connection to this song. As others have already pointed out, she had just moved from Oslo to Los Angeles when she recorded this cover. (So, she had literally been in Norway "dreaming" of coming to California just a matter of months before she recorded this.) But what is not as widely known is that she wasn't just moving "to" the U.S. when she came here in early 2018, she was moving *back to* the U.S. - she actually spent much of her early childhood here. (This according to a rather extensive article about her from December 2017, which states: "When Angelina was younger, her family lived different places around the world, mostly in the United States.") Knowing that makes the line about being "safe and warm… in L.A." hit a little differently…

It comes across as showing off one's vocal prowress, and simply gets in the way of the song. An already great, nigh perfect song doesn't need it!
