I see some "RIP Tom Searle comments, so I think I should elaborate that. Tom was the drummer's, Dan Searle, brother. He passed away 2 years ago after 3 years of fighting against cancer. This song is written by Dan, most of the music too. They said on their Facebook that this was a single on its own and it wouldn't be on the next album. When I bought the new album (Holy Hell), there wasn't a tracklist on the back. So when I first heard it fully I was very surprised to hear it on there
@judgepage66054 ай бұрын
I'm sure everyone knows this by now, but for some that are seeing this for the first time- should also elaborate that Tom was much more than Dan(the drummer) brother. Tom was the guitarist, lyricist, and main song writer for actually some of this song, and AOGHAU back

Like you, I hadn't really paid attention to this band, but wow, they're cool! Looked up their story, and this song has really sad circumstances--it was written by one of the cofounders (and lead guitarist), but he died before they recorded it, so this is their new guitarist. You didn't comment on how melodic his screaming is--I was quite amazed by it.
@gothcow14 жыл бұрын
It's such a sad and emotional song. The past two albums I believe revolves around that. I think All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us is kind of them dealing with the fact that they know he is going to die from his terminal cancer and then Holy Hell is about them dealing with his passing. I could be wrong but that's what I remember reading somewhere.
@c4gob00m4 жыл бұрын
Hayden Saul AOGHAU wasn’t initially about that, but there’s songs on there (Gone With The Wind, Momento Mori) that were written by Tom about his coming to terms with the fact he’s most likely going to succumb to the disease. I’m pretty sure they didn’t actually know how serious it was at that point and whether he’d pass, but Tom knew. Holy Hell is basically about them dealing with Tom’s passing and how they’re going to move on as a band.

Goosebumps in the first 5 seconds....very nice. I feel that with these guys, like Polyphia, the technical guitar playing is organically part of the song. It is actually enjoyable and doesn't sound like it was played by a soulless robot or a " look what i can do " human, just an excellent musician.

Great to see you talking about their style early in the beginning already, as a drummer its one of the reasons i like their stuff so much - guitar, bass and drums make up such an amazing union in their songs and build up so much momentum. Also their use of synths is really subtle but also veeeery important to the feel of their songs, you dont notice it much, but you would notice it a lot more if it were missing (kin of like bass players :D). Another great song from them where this really hammers down is "A Match Made in Heaven"

Yes they definitely took that riff I've been pitching about it since low came out its blatantly obvious, architects has been my favorite band for the last 9 years

While it really is EXTREMELY similar, they ARE different. Architects does two acending groups of three notes, while Wage War does a descending group of four notes and an ascending group of two notes. Architects also incorporates a chord progression while Wage War stays on the same chord. As to whether or not it's a rip-off, if you care, then go off. I personally don't really care, as both songs and bands are amazing to me.
