Roots was shown to me in history class growing up, the fact that the author said it isn't historically accurate is retroactively annoying.
@hbsavage0387
@hbsavage0387 Жыл бұрын
Yea a lot of people take it as historical which is what the author kinda intended. I believe his exact quote was “I want to give my people a historic myth to live by.” At least that’s what I roughly remember
@smtuscany
@smtuscany Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Europeans at that time didn’t went past coastal cities in Africa, because the inner areas were extremely dangerous. They never chased people around as showed in Roots. They just showed up at slave markets on the coast, run by local Africans, and bought people to bring to the western Hemisphere. Another thing they seldom talk about is that Arab slave trade with east Africa was even worse. They took 15 to 20 million people overall, and castrated most of the male slaves.
@dvd4792
@dvd4792 Жыл бұрын
Slavery was never a race problem. Just like every other problem still existsting today it was a wealth problem. Rich people from all over the world wanting to get richer traded slaves like products, buying them from rich warlords and selling them to rich business owners. Europeans were enslaved from long before the birth of christ all the way up too the ottoman empire (modern turkey) till 1926. Asia was worse and still is in some places. African people were the worst against each other and the funny thing is that this is widely accepted in Africa. Black slavery is a marketingplan from the rich to devide the 'poor' keeping us from understanding the real problems and uniting the many against the few.

@@hbsavage0387 Yep. That’s exactly what he said. You should check out Thomas Sowell. He’s one of those genius ppl that actually researched the truth and he has videos on it. Good old Bill calls it as he sees it, and so relatable. I'm a white Aussie guy in his 50's and I absolutely hate how nothing is changing to stop racism. We are a very multicultural society in Australia and our government still has forms where they want you to tick a box if you are Aboriginal or Torres Straight Islander. Stop separating us and let us all be one. Asian,white,black,middle eastern, who cares. Stop making people identify as a category or racism will never disappear.

He's married to a black person. Is that like a "i'm ok to act" stamp? Since, apparently, the only things black people think about from waking to sleeping is race. I mean Bill Burr is ok but he's about as funny as that drunk dude in the MCDonalds queue waiting for his big mac and fries. Yeah, you can laugh but your just wanting the taxi to turn up. Also saying "fuck" every other word was old 20 years ago. Its just annoying. He needs to grow up and grow a vocabulary.

I will say I have seen the Majority of the movies he's talking about Also, I know it says on the screen: 'Based on a True Story.' I know the stories portrayed isn't 100% accurate. However they were based on real events. Like The Freedom Writers and Ms. Gruwell. Not saying everything in the movie happened scene for scene irl, just saying she's a real person, I have heard some of her stories about it all, and I know it's real.

Racism is a thought and discrimination is a action. I don't give a damn if the person I make a transaction with is racist as Iong as the transaction is made. You can't stop someone's thought process and in some cases it may be understandable for them to feel that way emotionally. If someone of any race watched a loved one get killed by another race it would probably be devastating but as long as there is no discrimination or acts of violence who cares

About 20 years ago, I worked with a couple guys from Peru. Someone drove by the store where we worked and yelled a slur at them that they didn't understand. They asked me what it meant, and I told them. Then they asked me (see avatar pic) for a racial slur they could yell back at white people. They asked me specifically what I would most offended by. It was an interesting talk.

It's wierd to say, but Racism is Popular. It's a big topic. And what I mean when I say that, is that a studio will know that making an anti-racism movie is a guarantee for ticket sales. It's like a Christmas movie. We all know what's gonna happen in those movies. The big company wants to buy this small town in the middle of nowhere! And it's up to the Christmas loving protagonist to melt the heart of the employee that comes to town to scope the place out. Then they use some it-wouldnt-work-like-that uno reverse card to humble the company and save the town. We know how it goes, but the companies know it will sell anyway.

I'm curious.... Lol what are some stereotypes black people have of white people? I've heard the one about white people not seasoning their food. Thats gotta be a northern white folk thing. Cause southern white folks and black folks cooking preference is about the same. Smelling like wet dog, is a new one. Never heard that one before. Lice....that's true, I think. I've never heard of black folks having lice. And I have black people in my family. It doesn't matter how much u wash your hair, for white people. It must be a texture thing. Because black and white hair is so different.

The latest thing that we (I'm white) now have to be guilty about is cultural appropriation. My neice wants to have her hair done in corn rows. Wrong. Corn rows is a "black" thing. I take a fancy to a shirt that a black guy is wearing, I shouldn't buy one because it comes from his homeland of Ghana and the designs on it are "black" designs. But it seems that cultural appropriation only works one way eg I can't tell a black guy (not that I'd want to) that he can't wear a shirt, tie and suit to a job interview because these are "white" items of clothing. After all, no one in Africa would have been so stupid as to come up with the concept of ties and suits in the African heat. So, for goodness sake let's all just do and wear what we like and borrow from each other's cultures. Immitation IS the sincerest form of flattery after all,
