They went out in a boat. The name painted on that boat, Primo Victoria, is the name of their debut album(2nd album recorded, first released due to issues with 1st record label). The title track is about D-Day at Normandy. The older guy with the watch at the beginning, is the son of the last survivor of the Bismarck, who passed away about a year before this came out. The Bismarck went down fighting the British in May of '41, not too long after sinking the British battlecruiser HMS Hood. Bismarck took over 400 shell hits, and multiple torpedo hits. Some say the British sank it, some say the Germans scuttled it. A crew of over 2200, only 114 survived. Only 3 out of almost 1500 on the Hood survived. The video was made in conjunction with Wargaming, the company that makes the World of Warships game. There was a 1960 British movie called Sink the Bismarck, and a 1960 song by that name by Johnny Horton. The song was not used in the movie. Next for Sabaton, check out one of the animated story videos by Yarnhub: Night Witches, No Bullets Fly, The Red Baron, or Lady of the Dark.

This was the first Sabaton song (and music video) I ever saw, and it immediately impressed me with it's historical accuracy. Yes, the threat to merchant shipping in the Atlantic from the fast modern battleships Bismarck and Tirpitz was real and and after the destruction of HMS Hood the Royal Navy to concentrated ships on the area around the Bismarck. As we saw in the video she was crippled by Swordfish torpedo planes (open cockpit biplanes) launched from the carrier HMS Ark Royal which damaged her rudder and left her going in circles long enough to be cornered and heavily damaged by by the oncoming RN ships. Her damage was so bad it would have probably been fatal, and her captain scuttled the ship in order to save lives among his crew and prevent being boarded by the British. The threat of the Tirpitz was the reason for the insane and suicidal commando raid on St Nazaire, the site of the drydock for French ocean liner the SS Normandie, and the only drydock on the Atlantic coast that could fit the Tirpitz (The Greatest Raid of All.) This action resulted in 5 Victoria Crosses (1 recommended by by a German officer) and it meant that Tirpitz only ever operated in in the Baltic and in Norwegian waters, where she could be supported by land based aircraft and never used her big guns against Allied shipping.

It's a contentious subject on whether the Bismarck was scuttled or not.....there is evidence to say it wasn't. Anyway it was a floating wreck and would of sunk even if it wasn't scuttled.

Firstly, video was shot in that boat, and they had a generator for the lighting, but obviously they didn't play those guitars there in real. Saltwater and electricity won't mix so well. They all would have hair standing up from shocks. Drummer might of "played" in a sense that everyone had the beat right. Song itself was done in studio.

This video was made in cooperation with World of Warships video game, hence the awesome CGI. And yes, they went out into I believe the Baltic to film this. Sabaton does not do things by half measures. They even have a video that shows how this video was made. They have 2 other videos made in cooperation with gaming companies, "Steel Commanders" and "Kingdon Come" (cover of a Manowar song). Like others, I recommend you check out the Sabaton History channel where the story behind the song is discussed in detail. Actually, you might consider reacting to them. Great reaction and keep rocking.

In the beginning of the Video, you can hear the Radio in the beginning, when the are driving is talking about How the Bismarck have blown the "The might cruiser Hood" That lead to the British Navy got the message that Bismarck must be destroyed at all costs and lead to Battle of The Denmark Strait. From Wikipedia Bismarck was the first of two Bismarck-class battleships built for Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. Named after Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the ship was laid down at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg in July 1936 and launched in February 1939. Work was completed in August 1940, when she was commissioned into the German fleet. Bismarck and her sister ship Tirpitz were the largest battleships ever built by Germany, and two of the largest built by any European power. In the course of the warship's eight-month career under its sole commanding officer, Captain Ernst Lindemann, Bismarck conducted only one offensive operation, lasting 8 days in May 1941, codenamed Rheinübung. The ship, along with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, was to break into the Atlantic Ocean and raid Allied shipping from North America to Great Britain. The two ships were detected several times off Scandinavia, and British naval units were deployed to block their route. At the Battle of the Denmark Strait, the battlecruiser HMS Hood initially engaged Prinz Eugen, probably by mistake, while HMS Prince of Wales engaged Bismarck. In the ensuing battle Hood was destroyed by the combined fire of Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, which then damaged Prince of Wales and forced her retreat. Bismarck suffered sufficient damage from three hits to force an end to the raiding mission. The destruction of Hood spurred a relentless pursuit by the Royal Navy involving dozens of warships. Two days later, heading for occupied France to effect repairs, Bismarck was attacked by 16 obsolescent Fairey Swordfish biplane torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal; one scored a hit that rendered the battleship's steering gear inoperable. In her final battle the following morning, the already-crippled Bismarck was severely damaged during a sustained engagement with two British battleships and two heavy cruisers, was scuttled by her crew, and sank with heavy loss of life. Most experts agree that the battle damage would have caused her to sink eventually. The wreck was located in June 1989 by Robert Ballard, and has since been further surveyed by several other expeditions.

The Bismarck scored a direct hit in the magazine of HMS Hood the Royal Navy flag ship. It exploded and sank in minutes. It was priority one to sink the the Bismarck for moral. A plane with a torpedo scored a lucky hit on Bismarck’s rudder cropping it. The British fleet shelled them from distance for hours. But in the end The crew of the Bismarck scuttled the ship so it wouldn’t fall into Britain hands. The line bound by iron and Bloods refers to both crews of the Hood and Bismarck resting together in the Atlantic

The british warship was the biggest war ship before the Bismark and its sister ship the tirpitz. as a threat they did not pose as much as they could have. the tirpitz was blockaded in a fiord in Norway. The bismark was damaged as much by storms as the british warships. The hood may have been sunk by a lucky shot entering at the water ling during a turn and the shell exploded in a magazine room setting of the 4 inch shells and the fire from that setting of the main shell shell. Drachinfel has a documentary on the sinking of the hood.

Wanna hear another great band that has flown under the radar for most people? I've seen them called "The best band you've never heard of before" and I have also said that about them as well. They're an American band that's been around for almost 30 years with the same members, making kickass rock 'n roll (with hints of other genres) that is well worth investigating. Please check out Clutch...the song Electric Worry is a good place to start (also, please do the studio version or you might not get the awesome harmonica parts, as the guy who plays it is a guest and doesn't appear in the live versions I've seen). You're thinking about the wrong squadron, the Dam Busters were a Royal Air force squadron that (Given the name) destroyed a German dam which is the RAF squadron No. 617. The one that attacked the Bismark was a Royal Navy Naval Air Squadron No. 825 from HMS Victorious and Naval Air Squadrons No. 810, 818 and 820 from Ark Royal.

You gotta learn to play Sabaton videos until the end, man. Yeah, I know, it's boring to watch another 10 seconds with ambient sound only but the whole "War knows no nation" message gets kinda lost with impatient viewers. Nothing too important, I guess, but it really IS a drinking game - one out of ten viewers don't watch their reaction videos till the end (some of them even cut Floor off at the end of "Christmas Truce"). Spoils the fun of watching a bit ...
