Dreamcatcher has released nearly 100 songs over the past seven years, which is rare among K-pop girl groups. Most of the songs are good, so I hope you do a Dreamcatcher album reaction someday. Dreamcatcher is not mainstream in K-pop and is very underrated, especially in Korea. Please support these amazing girls.

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point.

Welcome to Dreamcatcher, they’re the queens of rock in Kpop and the lore runs deep with them, they have 3 “series” of lore, this is the start of one of them called the Apocalypse trilogy, the Tree is the tree of language and the song is about cyber bullying and it’s a bit of a cautionary tale about not becoming the same thing you’re a victim of. The next one is “Boca” which picks up where this one left off

The word that comes to mind with Dreamcatcher for me is balanced, followed by solid. I’m never left wanting after consuming any of their content. Usually there’s always something- great visuals but not great performers, great vocals but not great choreography/dancing skills, rap line great, vocal line not so much, great dancers but can’t rap. Dreamcatcher? No notes. No critique. They are BALANCED. They have it all! Their whole discography has no skips. I’m always in awe of their ability to perform these perfectly crafted pop-rock songs. They are, to me, perfect K-pop…in fact I would say perfect pop music in general. One of my favorite adulting days was running errands to prep for my preschool class and I kept forgetting things and I was stoked to run back to the store because it meant I could listen to Dreamcatcher on the way. I then changed my plans and made it a grocery and other errands day just to listen to Dreamcatcher!

I'll try to avoid duplicating what has already been said here with a couple of notes that have not been made. Dreamcatcher is a 7 member group but you only saw 6 in this video. The only non-Korean is the Chinese member Han Dong who went back to China to participate in a music survival show. The intention was for her just to be out only for this release, but she got stuck there for about 10 months because of the pandemic, and so she was missing for most of the material produced in 2020. She was eventually able to return, and in fact the group all quietly renewed their contracts well ahead of the 7-year deadline. The production team for the vast majority of Dreamcatcher's tracks including this one was Leez and Olounder who also produced the vast majority of Ateez' tracks. Leez moved on to a different role at another company last year, but Olounder continues to produce for both groups with some additional collaborators.

Dreamcatcher is such a special group. My all time fave girl group. They have more of a rock influence than most groups. They know how to balance whispery vocals with power & volume. In the Dystopia trilogy, one member was missing for two of the songs. She had gone back to China to compete in a survivor show & improve herself, but COVID hit & she couldn't travel for a year. So Scream & Boca were done without her, but she was back for Odd Eye. Dreamcatcher have several series. The Nightmare series (Chase Me, Goodnight, Fly High, You & I, What, Piri. Breaking Out is an alternate ending to the series, but it's a Japanese release.) The Dystopia trilogy (Scream, Boca, Odd Eye) and the Apocalypse Trilogy.(Maison, Vision, BonVoyage) And they also have a smattering of Game & Anime collaborations. (Deja Vu, R.O.S.E. Blue, Eclipse)

As a fellow metalhead who got into kpop because of Dreamcatcher, you've made a good choice in giving them a chance. Their sound was originally inspired by j-rock and then spread out to take in influences from a lot of different genres. All of their main singles have some element of rock or metal to them and you can't go wrong with trying out any of them. If you have time and are interested I would also recommend a korean rock band called Rolling Quartz. They did a cover of one of Dreamcatchers early singles called "Good Night" and they just released a new single a week or two ago called "Stand Up"

To continue the series, you would watch BOCA and Odd Eye, but here are just some that bring out more of their rockier style. "[ENG LYRICS] Dreamcatcher (드림캐쳐) - Break The Wall Live Showcase (1080P)" on the channel Andrew Lee "Rising" - find a lyric video. "Dreamcatcher(드림캐쳐) '거미의 저주 (The curse of the Spider) (2024 Concert Ver.)' MV" on the channel Dreamcatcher official and then there are some Japanese tracks where they go harder: "[MV] DREAMCATCHER「Endless Night」" and "[MV] DREAMCATCHER「NO MORE」" both on the channel ponycanyon which was their Japanese label at the time. There's even more, but this is good dip into their heavier more metal stuff.

Hi, I have loved your reaction, as you have asked here is some background on the story line and the M/V: Dystopia Trilogy: This trilogy talks about Cyberbullying and the power of language and how it can hurt someone if used in a negative way. It portrays their attempt at facing the Dystopian reality that is hidden in the world of social media. The center of the story is the tree of language that is turning black due to negativism after the curse of the evil language was released (depicted as opening Pandora's box in Scream) and the light provided by positive words fade out. The order of the title tracks is: Scream (Hear no Evil) - happening in the Past - Fantasy vibes Boca (Speak no Evil - Boca is the Spanish word for mouth) - Present timeline Odd Eye (See no Evil) - Futuristic vibes M/V: No some info in the M/V: The dancer with the mask on is reserving the spot for Handong. (stuck in China due to CoVid) First you mostly see the members wearing white, that is their pure uncorrupted form and they gradually take on the black outfit after waking up to new world of hatred. The masks otherwise represent anonymity provided by social media. 5:59 is when Gahyeon breaks the container of the curse and negativism starts spreading (Explosion around the tree) It is also shown that this has happened some time in the past and negativism is ever since part of our society. (6:02 the ancient texts light up) 6:07 they point fingers at her for doing it. Similar to their other M/Vs the storytelling is not linear. In Scream the members are already wearing black but still asleep at the beginning 1:46. ("My covered eyes are stained with blood") 2:36 shows the loss of the white form. There is even a transitioning outfit with JiU with White on top of black 3:10. The purple fog with the evil words 3:20 is the curse basically, the scenes with purple with black outfit are the corrupted areas. We see how the spreading works in the bridge when Siyeon is still wearing white 6:49 while the other six members are already in black and around the now corrupted tree (purple) and they walk away from her wearing some black already and in 7:02 she wakes up wearing black. It is also important to note that one of the important message is how the "Please I don't want to scream" turns into Siyeon eventually singing "I just want to make you scream", meaning that basically negativism corrupts people turning them from victims to perpetrators. 7:10 "Dami: and one by one everyone becomes crazy". And finally now all of them wearing black walk away.

So the devil horns sign used here comes from Italian culture. It’s a sign meant to ward off evil and then was appropriated into the rock and metal scene when Ronnie James Dio of Black Sabbath, influenced by his Italian grandmother, started using it at his shows. This song is the first installment of their Dystopia trilogy which discusses the effects of cyberbullying. Scream is essentially about witch hunts and serves as the “hear no evil” part of the series. Now I’m probably reaching with this next bit, but I want to geek over the genius use of the devil horns in this song. As I just said, the symbol is meant to ward off evil, but during the Satanic Panic it was seen as a satanic symbol. The Satanic Panic was basically a witch hunt and the rock and metal scene was one of the major targets. A lot of baseless accusations were being thrown around by religious groups. Now, isn’t it beautifully poetic that a symbol meant to ward off evil was twisted by false accusations into a symbol of evil? Isn’t it such a fitting symbol for this song about witch-hunts and cyberbullying?

I liked the way you react, commenting about the vocals and instrumentals. Dreamcatcher is a very unique group with a rock influence. They were deemed as "the face of rock in K-pop". Hope to see you react more to them, if you're going to react to 'Boca' -which is the next installment of this trilogy, and even if you don't really read them first, don't forget to switch to the 'English (United States)' captions. @@MCDofWCR First thank you for looking into Dreamcatcher. They are great. Also all the best to your mom. The reason to switch to that specific "English (US)" instead of plain "English" subtitle track is that in front of each line the name of the member is written. This helps to get to know them. Unfortunately only a few MVs have this embedded (also available in "Scream" if you select the "correct" subtitle track). In "Scream" and "Boca" the Chinese member Handong is missing (replaced with a dancer in "Scream" wearing the mask). Handong was stuck in China due to Covid. She returned right before Odd Eye (3rd part of this trilogy) was recorded. Oh and if you check out the "Boca (MV)" also add the "'BOCA' Dance Video (K-Zombie ver.)"... it's worth it. 😉 Side note: The only other Halloween Girl Group performance that's even better than the actual original version is (G)I-DLEs "Put it straight" (Nightmare / Halloween version)". That one is really crazy. As you mentioned ATEEZ at the beginning... Dreamcatcher is often called the sister group. They shared the same producers for a long time (Leez and Ollounder; Leez left ~2 years ago due to an exclusive contract) and they are chaotic as well. It's fun to watch the additional stuff they have on their channel. For a guide I highly recommend Mera's video about them called "Dodging Disbandment and Other Extreme Sports: A History of Dreamcatcher". It shows the competition they were facing ("before" and after they became Dreamcatcher), the topic with the first win on a music show (spoiler: they finally got it with Maison on April 20th 2022... over 5 years after their debut... this is still just crazy to begin with) and other stuff that was going on until 2020. The editing is hilarious with little funny clips and comments thrown in ("Where's the album? We want the album!) and the amazing "Board meeting" commenting ("So here's my idea: Give JiU a big f**king sword..." ). 🤣 After that check out the stuff that "Insomnicsy" has released. She does an amazing job with her videos and also provides translations to summaries of the members vlives.

dreamcatcher \:D/ best wishes for your mom's speedy recovery :) scream is part 1 of their dystopia trilogy which exposes the pitfalls of the internet and social media. specifically, scream addresses online bullying and hate. there's too much imagery and such so I don't want to overload you and have everything fly over your head lol, but just keep in mind dreamcatcher references a lot of pop-culture so really anyone can connect the dots. the tree is the 'tree of language' and symbolizes the internet with its roots as portals and interior lined with text. if you are a game of thrones fan, you might know some fans compared the weirwood trees to being the internet so there you have it. you're see in part 3 that its roots are fiber optic cables so there's more of a direct link but they do it this way in scream to stay within the medieval theme. part 2 is boca and part 3 is odd eye. in general the dystopia trilogy is a lot more electronic compared to other songs in their discography, to stay within the internet theme. you can also check out their apocalypse trilogy(maison, vision, bon voyage) which again to go along with the theme has a much more industrial musical composition.

I see Dreamcatcher, I click. 6:16 That gesture where they say "Devil eyes come I open my eyes" can be interpreted as seeing the evil or becoming the evil. Given that the trilogy is about cyberbullying it could be both, since the lyrics at first say "Please I don't want to scream" but in the last chorus it changes to "I just wanna make you scream" Dreamcatcher concepts and lyrics are always great, they usually do big concepts instead of the typical songs. It would be great if you finnish the trilogy, this is the 1st part, 2nd is Boca and the 3rd part is Odd Eye. They also have other series of music videos that have great songs and some interesting narratives. Their main sound in their title tracks usually incorporates rock/metal elements, while their Bside discography has many different genres, they always surprise me with every song.

Thanks for checking out Dreamcatcher! They always incorporate rock and metal instrumentation in all of their title tracks and several of their b-sides. They're also very diverse in their discography with their b-sides cover dozens of genres and sub-genres including R&B, EDM, Trap, Trance, Jazz, Reggae, Funk, and much more. As for the meaning of this song, this is the beginning of the Dystopia trilogy which is a commentary on social media, online bullying, and hate speech. Scream, specifically, has lots of imagery that calls back to witch hunts where innocent women were accused, convicted, and burned at the stake for being witches. They use this as a mirror to modern day witch hunts that happen online. I hope you continue to check out more of their music, the next song in this trilogy is Boca (mouth in Spanish), followed by Odd Eye.

It's a lot easier for boy groups since they tend to get much more budget and preferential treatment compared to girl groups in general. Add to that, Dreamcatcher isn't from one of the big companies. They're literally they're own company - Dreamcatcher Company and have even less budget than big company girl groups, but they still release excellent music and have outlived many groups from their generation being one of the few 3rd gen girl groups still around.

@kevindean0000 my dear, you must not know BTS, when they started Bighit only had about 12 employees, BangPD started the company and only had 2 other groups. The group almost had to disband because Bighit almost had to declare bankruptcy. They had almost No money. BTS was doing their own publishing and promoting. RM and Suga wrote the songs and Suga did the production. They are the reason Bighit got as big as it is now. These young men are the most naturally grown group you can find. They haven't been given anything and have had the roughest time of any group in Kpop.... They've been around now since 2013 and even tho doing their military service right now are still killing it. But those young girls were doing good. I wish them much success and life. 🫰💜💜💜 Thank you for caring about them.

@@rgober60 I didn't say anything about BTS. Their first videos definitely didn't have the budget either and definitely worked hard to get where they are with the industry against them but you can't deny the industry is male slanted with very few exceptions and there's still issues with those girl groups getting comebacks as often as the boy groups do in their own companies. You can remain BTS focused. No one is telling you otherwise, but I wouldn't use BTS to discount other groups struggling from the bottom as well. They're not the only ones.

@@rgober60Please don’t disregard Dreamcatcher’s struggles by comparing them to BTS’. K-pop is a cutthroat industry. Both BTS and Dreamcatcher struggled, but were blessed by companies that believed in and cared about them. Dreamcatcher weren’t always Dreamcatcher. Five of them were members of Minx who, unlike BTS who almost disbanded, actually disbanded. Siyeon couldn’t even listen to music anymore she was so depressed about her failed music career. Fortunately, their company CEO decided to try again because he believed in their talents. Rather than following the trends as Minx, they decided to try a different approach by going entirely anti-mainstream with their concept and sound just so that they could stand out in K-pop’s oversaturated industry. He said that if Dreamcatcher failed, he would quit the entertainment industry altogether and start a cucumber farm. Dreamcatcher couldn’t get a music show win for 5 years, but persistently stuck to the untrendy sound and concept that was uniquely them before finally getting that elusive first win in 2022.
