I'm 42 years old metalhead who likes things from Queen and Helloween up to Lorna Shore. And trust me, Dreamcatcher is not a "pop"-group. They are completely "ours" in spirit, and these months I literally only listen to them, because, to be honest, for me they are just better than anything else that exists around. You might as well start checking them from the top, "Chase Me" which is their debut. Other people suggested "No More", but you have to know that it's their heaviest song by far. Second heaviest is "Endless Night". Both are great, but I think it's a disservice to self to make such picks, because if one is biased to heavy music then one might then be somewhat dissapointed in their further discography, which is still pretty metal from time to time, yet not to that extent.

Vision is also a great metal piece with Industrial influence! Maybe is a spoiler from the concert about a new arrangement of a song, so I put some space . . . . . . I think that their heaviest song NOW is The curse of the spider metal version. I knew they will perform the song, but not like this! I was like "WTF I am hearing???? OMG" You can find some video of this new live version.

@@MrValium100 well, their lives are on completely different level, that's for sure. And the people who are new to this probably should start from the beginnings, like A-side MVs. Then B-sides, special clips such as Poison Love, Abracadabra and other relays, ridiculously awesome live performances and insomnicsy videos, of course, but not all at once :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3XOlJ2wh8d5eM0 is awesome, of course.

Deja Vu is about a memory so painful a person can't move past it. In the video that memory is the tall member Yoohyeon betraying the others to get her place on the throne, even though everything around her was destroyed in accomplishing that.

Dreamcatcher: BOCA, SCREAM, BEcause, ODD EYE, SAHARA, MORE, YOU AND I, MAISON, VISION, Chase Me...
@loreleileong40719 ай бұрын
For context, Deja Vu is a collaboration with a fantasy based mobile game and the game story centered around themes of faith, sacrifice, corruption and betrayal (a very simplified explanation of the game more complex plot). In the MV, it is their take on the game story themes and the use of the meaning of Deja Vu (i.e. the feeling that you have already experienced something, even when in reality you never have) to tell the story. Basically, there are two main character which the antagonist is shown at the start of the MV, and she converts the protagonist's throne (shown by the darkness enveloping her when she sat on the throne). The usage of Deja Vu is through the various reversed scenes, for example, the first and second sword scene where in the first (representing a fake memory i.e. Deja Vu), the antagonist see herself as the "victim" in a normal dress with the protagonist is in black pointing the sword at her and in the second sword scene (representing reality), where the protagonist is in the pretty dress and the antagonist is in black, the opposite happen and the antagonist backstab the protagonist instead, and getting rid the rest of the group members with her only remaining on the throne (scenes of the members circling her accusingly, the judas like supper table, all the members falling at the end etc. hinting of the literal backstab and betrayal) . Other examples of the false memory and reality switching about are the scenes which alternate the protagonist/antangosit in the coffin with the other pointing the sword towards it.
@ForestSen9 ай бұрын
A good visual representation that another video analysis pointed out is all the fake scenes have blue in them. Blue drinks. Blue windows. Showing that none of these scenes are reality.

Wow, I did not expect to see you guys reacting to Dreamcatcher, but it's a very pleasant surprise. Glad you enjoyed it. I've been a metalhead for most of my life, but I've always had a weakness for catchy pop songs because, catchy. Dreamcatcher was something Spotify randomly decided to through my way and it immediately caught my attention. Today, they are one of my favorite groups. In the first place for their music. All their title-tracks incorporate the rock element that has become their signature sound, but their B-sides are just as good (because Talent!) but cover many different genres from ballads, reggae, jazz, soul and EDM, to straight up metal. In the second place, for the members of the group themselves. In an industry that can rely heavily on popularity, trends and image, Dreamcatcher have always been unapologetically their authentic selves with the support of their company. And their authentic selves are hilarious. Absolute professionals on stage, absolute agents of chaos off stage, which has made them much loved guests at variety shows. Needless to say, I would love to see you react to more Dreamcatcher. I've seen the suggestions for their last Japanese tracks like No More, Eclipse and Don't Light My Fire. Honestly, they might be more up your alley. The Japanese tracks tend to be heavier, since metal is more popular in Japan. But personally, I would recommend starting with their debut song 'Chase Me'

Thank you for reacting to Dreamcatcher! They are ultimately a pop group but they always have an element of rock in their title tracks. These ladies are such talented vocalists with insane stage presence. If rock is what you love, I recommend the songs Rising, No More (Japanese release), Tension, Good Night, Bon Voyage, Vision, Break the Wall.. it’s hard to narrow it down. They really do cover so many genres and do all of them justice.

Thanks for checking out Dreamcatcher! They've got a fantastic discography. I've seen a lot of good recommendations for other songs going forward, so I'll just say to enjoy the ride. I just realized that no one spoke about the MV. You're right that there's a story being told. Deja Vu was done as a collaboration with the mobile game Kings Raid and the MV tells a story about betrayal. The members are all friends and rule together, but Yoohyeon becomes corrupted in the beginning of the MV, illustrated by the black smoke entering her, and becomes convinced that everyone is trying to steal the throne from her. Yoohyeon spends the rest of the MV either killing or banishing her friends and ends up alone in the end. There are contradictory scenes in the MV which represent Yoohyeon's warped perception of reality and what's actually happening. All of Dreamcatcher's MVs are very story driven and a lot of times are grouped together in trilogies or series. Deja Vu is a standalone story though as it's tied to the mobile game. You'll also find that Dreamcatcher's title tracks and many of their b-sides carry an important message. Whether it's about self-discovery and dealing with issues like societal expectations and personal fears in the Nightmare Series, calling out online bullying and hate in the Dystopia trilogy, or bringing attention to climate change and war in their Apocalypse series, there's always a message that their music is trying to convey. They also have a lot of uplifting songs, that encourage the listener to stand up and keep fighting for the things they believe in, to accept their selves for who they are, and to never give up. These themes and ideas are at the core of Dreamcatcher's music and who they are as artist and people.

Dreamcatcher is amazing!!! True masters of genre-blending; they debuted with a rock/metal core at a time when no one else in the industry was doing it and have survived against all odds to pave the way for more groups to follow in their footsteps and experiment with these influences. They’re true queens and among many unique things you can say about them is being the first ever K-pop group invited to the Primavera Sound Festival! Rolling Quartz loves Dreamcatcher and was definitely influenced by them-they even have a cover of Dreamcatcher’s song Good Night, so highly recommend checking out both versions! Some other Dreamcatcher songs you might like are their b-sides Break the Wall which reminds me a lot of Evanescence, Japanese track Don’t Light My Fire which has similarities to Nightwish’s Nemo, EDM masterpiece Shatter, and their latest title track OOTD which a lot of people has said sounds influenced by Korn or Nine Inch Nails. Even if you don’t usually do k-pop, Dreamcatcher is definitely a group worth getting to know. They just renewed their contract after seven years together, becoming one of the only remaining third-generation groups, and I firmly believe that someday they’ll be considered an international phenomenon.

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 Deja Vu is nothing short of a masterpiece. It is a beautiful, fragile ballad that kicks your teeth down your throat in the chorus. It is extra difficult to sort out, because it tells the story from two perspectives. You know how even evil people think they are the good guys? This is reflected here. One perspective is Yoohyeon's, who gets corrupted right in the beginning. She thinks JiU is bad (does not want to share power) and backstabs her and kills, imprisons or banishes the other members so that she can rule alone. The other perspective is reality, where we can see JiU be kind to Yoohyeon, but she gets killed for it. I believe this is a commentary on the different perspectives people can have about the same event. The lyrics seem to hint at an abusive relationship, where there are usually two perspectives as well, and the abuser finds excuses to justify their actions, while the abused find themselves in an endless Deja Vu. Rolling Quartz are Dreamcatcher fans btw. 😉

thanks for checking out dreamcatcher \:D/ they got a lot of cool songs and the thing with them is, almost no two of their songs are alike so you never know what you are going to get when you check out a 'new' song from them. they literally incorporate all genres of music across different time periods. from a western mindset, you wouldn't think this is a recipe for success but they've been able to make the most unlikely of fans. from their name dream 'catcher', a lot of their songs are about following your dreams but they always stress the importance about maintaining your identity in its pursuit. while their lyrics are generally abstract and could be interpreted in many ways, deja vu can be interpreted as how betraying yourself or more specifically things you love resulted in an empty goal.

Always fun to see folks going outside the box. You're going to get a lot of feedback on Dreamcatcher, so here's my two cents: At the end of the day, they're a pop group (my personal favorite kpop group). But the rock/metal is definitely an influence. If you're interested in hearing more, try Reason, which was a fan tribute song they did last year, with strong rock vibes, or try their song Break the Wall, which is on of their "special clips", a song they did in an informal behind-the scenes style, usually with some visual jokes and things. Or No More, which is a straight up j-rock/j-metal song. There's also Scream, which is an EDM-ish song but with a vibe and visuals that feels very metal (they even throw horns as part of the choreo and have a "devil voice" in it. What I can say is, the Dreamcatcher fanbase is pretty passionate so if you continue to react to them occasionally you'll probably get a solid response. :)

The rock ballad that is only a ballad or only rock 😊. Dreamcatcher are all diverse, great vocalists and their producers are never afraid to interrupt the heaviest moments with something gorgeous when it fits the theme of the song. A brief rundown for future playlists: Scream and Boca are Dreamcatcher fundamentals; if they only play two songs at a quick appearance one of them is their current promotion and the other is Scream or Boca. Scream is a heavier metal/EDM/rock fusion while Boca is a moohmbaton/rock fusion and both are definitional to what the kpop community means by "Dreamcatcher genre". Piri is the closest Dreamcatcher ever got to doing a "pure" rock song in the American understanding. It's both an older song and STILL on the short list of their best songs (from a songwriting perspective) ever. Comments might mention Endless Night alot. It's the heaviest metal Dreamcatcher ventured into, and also very autobiographical about their initial failure in the music business and pushing past endless obstacles to reach success as Dreamcatcher.

Dreamcatcher is a master on genre blend. as you said, not everyone will like pure rock sounds. but what's special with Dreamcatcher is that they are vocally great, with rock/metal sound at the background, mesh with other genres. Their earlier works were more on the rock/metal sound. after a while, they started mixing genres and still have rock as the base genre. that's why they are labelled as Face of Rock in K-pop. some groups started to follow their steps too. what i recommend is Chase Me & Good Night as these are their debut songs. and then Scream & Boca as these are in the middle of their career. and then Vision & Bon Voyage as these are their second most recent songs. and then OOTD, their most recent and they changed their style.

Great song to be introduced to Dreamcatcher, b/c it's one of their best musically. It's literally a "rock/ballad" a pure piano ballad between the rock chorus, without mashing them together (which the usual k-pop formula, and even this group does it in their other songs). The pre-chorus "holding this pain" part still gives me chills, such a perfect vocal delivery. I'm a Korean American punkrocker, so I listen to the occasional kpop and some korean rock bands (Nell and Seotaiji have been my favorite for a while) to get some more variety in my music rotation. I've been listening to Dreamcatcher like 90% of my time lately lol. Not all of their music is rock/metal, it's just that they are much more heavily based in that than other kpop girl groups, and almost all their lyrical content is more rock/metal-like (versus pop's breakup/love songs, etc.).

They have one song that has kind of a death metal song called Endless Night. Break the Wall is a early 2000s-esque evanescence sounding song. Red Sun isn't really rock at all, but is so genre bending I don't know what to call it. Mayday is a b-side, but also rock sounding, and the video is their fans playing the instruments while they sing live, its great. Check them out.

Deja vu is a game collab so... the stuffs u can see in this video is not "that dreamcatcher" compared with other stuffs from them. I love them way too much... And i bet u gonna love them aswell if u both keep reacting to them. They have trilogies and series with really meaningful songs. Im not talking about simple love songs or stuffs like that. Im talking about cyberbullying, environmental disasters and way more. They have tons of concepts and genres on their albums. RnB, Jazz, Pop, Metal... I can recommend the trilogy Scream, Boca, Odd Eye. Or maybe their debut (part of Nightmare series) "Chase me". And then listen how they evolved with time. Their story is crazy. They started like Minx, but... It didnt work. The entire group was strugling. But they dodged the disbandment and now i cant remember a single person who listened to them and doesnt love them. The kpop industry in Korea is... tough.

More Dreamcatcher! American pop is stale and I abandoned it several years ago. Kpop is where pop music is moving forward and changing, because Koreans aren't bound by an obsession with genre. Korean composers view Western music as a menu that they select from as something catches their interest. So you will find a variety of elements taken from mostly American pop mixed together in Kpop, but always with a strong emphasis on melody, which is the hallmark of Kpop. Dreamcatcher are out in front of the herd, because they are the first Kpop group to incorporate rock and metal elements into their music. Rock is not popular in South Korea and putting it into their music created a five year long struggle for them to be recognized for their talent. They debuted in 2017 and won their first award in 2022. The normal trajectory for new Kpop groups is that the first award comes within a year of debut. They simply refused to give up. International fans are what saved them from disbandment. They're touring in Europe right now and I expect an American tour will follow. Their fanbase (InSomnia) is mostly outside of South Korea.

Dreamcatcher makes the best music and their b-side tracks explore many different genres! Also, Catchingteez made a two part video series about how amazing this song is musically if anyone wanted to watch it Deja Vu is one of the best songs I've ever heard imo
@ggdaddy66769 ай бұрын
Too many things to love about Dreamcatcher -- they bring a classical, almost operatic sensibility to their music, and while it's often heavier than Deja Vu, I think many fans would agree Deja Vu is their masterpiece. Might also be worth checking out Because, which has a very dark theme but leans toward a pop sound with a reggae (?) rhythm and a little bit of Beethoven (For Elise). You and I is another interesting blend of classical and rock -- but they have a long catalog of heavier stuff, like Vision, Chase Me (their debut), Good Night, the Scream / Boca / Odd Eye trilogy, What, Maison, and many others. And their most recent, OOTD, is the best EDM ever imo. This is not just pop music or just rock, it's a sophisticated blend centered around rock sounds but bringing in many other influences. And it's not just the music -- great choreo, awesome vocals (esp main vocalist Siyeon), great visual artistry, great MV concepts dealing with genuine issues -- DC's folder is definitely empty when it comes to anything second-rate.

Another Fun Fact: JiU is a fan of Babymetal. Now that you have met Rolling Quartz and Dreamcatcher, I would also suggest you check out RQ covering a DC song. Several of the members of RQ are fans of DC. There's a connection in the admin of the two groups (I can't remember the details) and so RQ got permission to do their own cover and MV of the DC song "Good Night". But before you see the MV from either group, I would suggest watching the live version from RQ. See it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqLSnHmgoJeYhq8si=jxhwuSBmJp8wCqbD Later you can watch the MV's from both groups. As for the next DC song, perhaps something a little closer to your backgrounds. "Don't Light My Fire" is arguably DC's heaviest song. Sadly, there is no MV for it, but here is an audio/lyric video for it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fofKaHiCgpackJYsi=Kn9wxCn4jtQzETZR If you want another MV from DC with some heavier music, I'd suggest "Endless Night" from their Japanese tracks: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXSkfah8rpeMjKssi=a7ELJ-NnCDt2dG-3 Welcome to the Dream World. Welcome to Dreamcatcher. Come for the talent. Stay for the Chaos. Hang on for the ride.

Since your new EP is called "Top Shelf Villain", perhaps your next Dreamcatcher reaction could be to their latest comeback song "OOTD" off their "VillainS" album. Their concept is becoming the "top shelf" of arrogant influencers that lure you into a dark world of fame at any cost, with a twist. The song is amazing and shows their growth as artists since "Deja Vu"'s release in 2019. 😈🤘

The other piece of Rolling Quartz and Dreamcatcher connection trivia (in addition to the fact that RQ covered Good Night) is that Rolling Quartz' drummer, Yeongeun, was, at least at one point, the drum teacher for Handong, the member of Dreamcatcher who sings the line "Holding this pain" in Deja Vu. Welcome to the Dreamworld!
