He sang this and wrote this because the love of his life was gone from his life, he knew she would never come back, but he didn’t blame her because he knew in the end his own folly drove her away. This was his tragic, sorrowful “i’m sorry, this is what I wish could have been.” This was the song he chose to make his swansong.

@2yoyoyo1Unplugged he didn't actually write the song, but yes, he was singing it to the love of his life, for sure. The Rightous Brothers, with the solo sung by Bobby Hatfield, made the song popular in 1965. But it was written for the movie "UNCHAINED" in 1955 and sung by Todd Duncan as the theme song.

I went to see the movie last Yr and can tell you, I'm not 1 for showing emotion ever. But when Austin butler started this song and cut to elvis, I was bloody in tears. Thank god room was dark. For 20 mins after I left cinema I was so choked I couldn't speak. It took me back to the night news came in he died and this version was played on radio. I'm 65 and shocked that this man can still have that affect on someone who never met him. There was a day he wasn't out of the news or not in a paper in magazine. Yet ironically a lot of newspapers put his passing somewhere around page 5

Heartbreaking. You can see he was struggling before the song (from ill health, not gyrating) short of breath, trying to concentrate. Yet the moment he started playing the piano he was transformed. Incredible performance, yet heartbreaking.

Exactly, slurring his words, stoned out of his gourd. But then he starts playing the piano and singing, it's a completely different person, words he was slurring just 1 minute ago are now sung in a strong, deep, in charge. The operatic notes he hits are amazing. The transformation is just amazing,

Only 56 days later the KING would die. He was only 42. Imagine how ill he was, how much pain he was in and how rattled his mind may have been that night. You can see how much he was struggling just to function. Yet he was so dedicated and so determined to please his fans, that his performance was still truly powerful and moving. No one knew at the time that this would be his very last concert. His talent was a gift to him from God and we are forever blessed that he shared it with us. He gave us everything he had in every performance right up to the very end. God bless you Brother Presley, Rest in Peace.

Elvis`s career lasted 24 years (1953 - 1977 ). People are constantly talking about his weight gain, when in fact, he gained weight in the last three years of his life. In the end, his face was bloated, not fat. Some months after this concert, he passed. Elvis was a very sick man but all people mention about him is his drug abuse. He took legal drugs for his various health problems, no street drugs.

This is a great video. I’m going to be 55 this year and I’m a lifelong Elvis fan and it moves me greatly to see someone so much younger than me as yourself appreciating him for the true artist that he was even up to the end of his life, which unfortunately was a few weeks after this performance was recorded. His beginnings were in gospel music, that was his first group that he was in. It was a gospel group if I’m not mistaken. He was a talent among talents in his day and there will never be another Elvis Presley. Thank you on behalf of myself and all other Elvis fans for your kind and wonderful words about this performance. That his amazing voice has reached another generation just makes me feel fantastic.

Elvis had an amazing voice up to the end. This was his last TV special, his last concert was June 26, 1977 in Indianapolis, Indiana. I was at his last concert & he was fantastic.

The concerts in Omaha and Rapid City were the two that CBS used for the special that aired after his death. This was from the Rapid concert. He had, I believe, 5 more concerts after this one on this tour with the last one in Indianapolis.

It’s a stream of consciousness song. This is why he’s the king. Two months before his death he sang this song and made it his very own. Love your reactions.

Elvis could do almost anything, including sing opera. I loved Elvis! No one can be him. People keep trying. They do not even get his dancing steps right. Longtime fan.

When he first starts playing the piano it gives you the chills. When he sings you wanna cry. When he smiles you can’t help but smile. When the build up comes he sounds operatic. The entire song is just, I have no words. I love this man and I am truly obsessed. Thank you for the sweetest review.

You have understood Elvis so, so well, that I get goose bumps, I smile and tear up at the same time watching your reaction. From the first time I saw this performance of Unchained Melody, I felt that he was a soul saying goodbye to this physical plane and ready to give his all to leave his last legacy. That's why it feels like he is going back and forth to heaven over and over again until the song ends majestically. I absolutely agree that after him that song belongs to Elvis.

His body was literally shutting down, he was in pain but still went out and performed cuz it’s what he loved. His voice never left him it’s so unfortunate we didn’t get this elvis voice longer. It was so powerful

I was born and grew up in Memphis … I’m just a fan of Elvis and truly still love and miss him .. He was a regular guy with an over abundance of Talent ., Charisma , and amazing looks ❤ He truly loved his fans and gave all he could to entertain us all. Here he is still remembered in awe. I don’t know if he knew how much he was loved because of those around him controlling his life … Thank you for the video dear Britt

And even when he was heavier, and having difficulty with breath control...breathing in general... he was giving his performances 110%. He poured his entire heart and soul out, on that stage... every single show. Was Michael Jackson, or Stevie Winner, or Elton John a great performer? Of course. But Elvis was a step above. He set the bar. And in my opinion, no other performer, in music history, has ever matched the energy and passion of an Elvis concert.

My opinion is that he and Michael Jackson are tops in the world and always will be, but Elvis was King FIRST! Michael was Elvis's son in law, and also lit the World on fire in a way no one else ever can, like Elvis did.

I lived next to Elvis's cousin when I was 4-5 years old, in our hometown of Tupelo, MS. Elvis would ride either his motorcycle or a convertible down from Memphis to visit his cousins. When I would see Elvis pull into Mr. Harold Ray's, I would run over because Elvis would always take me for a ride. I had no concept of fame, only that he was a sweet guy who indulged my love of fast vehicles. My mother was leary of motorcycles, and I can still hear Elvis saying, Mrs. Iris, I'll promise to protect her, but I can't tell her no. Elvis would always stop at a drive-in and buy me a milkshake and sing to me. Years later, after we had moved and Elvis's death, Mr. Harold Ray Presley was the sheriff of Lee County and killed in a shoot-out with a kidnapper. The kidnapper and victim were also killed. When I visit home, you still see both young and older Presley relatives. The Presley genes are strong, and some have a strong resemblance to Elvis, which throws visitors to his birthplace. Loved your reaction.
