When Gigi originally drafted this animation it was ambiguous if Odysseus had dropped the child. It was later confirmed (in later songs and by Jorge) he indeed did drop the child. The song was not ment to be ambiguous about the childs fate just this was made SUPER early on. Gigi redid the animation for these two songs as one long set with the adjusted sounds / voices ( Zeus didn't have a VA at the time but now does) and made adjustments to the visuals so might want to look into it for another video later on / for your own pleasure.

I definitely recommend watching them by saga instead of by song. Each saga is somewhere between 3-5 songs and are basically chapters of the story. So all of the songs in each saga are based off each other

This is an amazing list, I fully recommend it. I also would recommend not watching an animatic first unless it’s the livestream version because the animatics are flavored by the writer and will shape your perspective of the story. Sometimes leading you to miss certain themes. Don’t worry about knowing the story, he did his Odyssey a bit different than the original. Knowing the story of the odyssey makes things predictable but it’s not a 1-1 match

Little background here- the key fandom animatics from the Troy Saga to The Cyclops Saga were made under a production company that screwed them over. So, _they made their own company_ , recreated the songs, and kept going. None of the staple animatics from the first two sagas have the new audio, but Gigi did rerelease theirs. (Theirs are the ones you just watched). They remade their versions of The Horse and The Infant, and Just a Man into one video, and added the new audio on top. That, along with an additional animation at the end.

At the end of the Trojan War, the Achaeans (Greeks) stormed the city. One of the common practices in wartimes was to end the bloodline of the immediate royal/leading family. If it makes anyone feel better, it wasnt traditionally Odysseus that killed Astyanax (the baby) but Neoptolemy/Pyrrus the son of the (at this point dead) Achilles that throws him off the city's walls

I don’t know if somebody mentioned this already, but all the vocals in epic are diegetic, which means that all the background vocals you hear are sung by people (in this song the soldiers fighting), non-mortals (example gods or monsters) can bend those rules and have background vocals even if nobody else is singing. So the background vocals singing: “when does a man become a monster” is the soldiers asking Odysseus when he becomes a monster for killing this infant. Also watch out for repeated motifs (some are easy to catch but some are quite difficult). Another thing, all characters have their own instruments (Odysseus’ is the guitar) that play when that character is singing/doing something Love your reaction to Epic so far, hope you’ll do them all❤

A little bit of mythology background... Hector's infant son was indeed killed by being thrown off the wall after/during the sack of Troy (though I don't know if it was Odysseus who did it in the original source stories). This event takes place as part of a series of acts that anger the gods during the sacking of Troy, and time-wise takes place between the two big famous stories of the Iliad and the Odyssey that we still have. Those smaller stories, both of the sacking of Troy and of the homecomings of everyone but Odysseus, were part of a story set that was lost to history, either by never being written down or by any written copies having been lost. We mainly know of the events that happened because other, preserved stories talk about the events.

Pay attention to a lot of the motifs in this song, they come back a lot throughout the musical, especially the "when does a man become a monster?" part. That's basically the main thesis of the musical: odysseu's transition from a man into a monster during his journey home (no spoilers but it gets dark). Im sorry to tell you this, but he DOES drop the baby :((( The next song is full speed ahead, and then open arms and then warrior of the mind. These 5 songs are the troy saga, basically the first chapter of act 1. I knew this one was gonna absolutely shatter you - maybe even more so than a lot of us since you're a dad! This musical is definitely a rollercoaster of emotions, but the amazing songs and animatics make it 100% worth the pain. I'm so glad you're continuing with Epic...I just discovered it the day after the Thunder Saga released, and it was basically the only thing I listened to for at LEAST two weeks afterward. Epic the Musical is the story of Odysseus on his jorney to get back home from the Trojan War, aka based off of the Odyssey. Each saga is a continuous story and trial that Odysseus goes through too get home. I would recommend reacting by Saga or few songs each vid since their are so many with new ones still being produced as we speak. But do what you want too. It's basically 76% heartbreak, but funny, awesome, and adorable at the same time. I mean, it's Epic.

Gigi also did one of this one) Different Beast (gigi did not do one of this one) Mutiny (Mejillustrates is my fav) Thunder Bringer (Duvetbox's feels more serious/sinister to me than the other ones imo) The songs above go right into one another, for story progression, so if you wait a week in-between or so it will feel awkward. The sagas tell the complete story arch though, but i believe the others stand alone well enough to where the viewer would be fine if you didn't watch them in threes. Its up to you. There is an order to this musical, it chronicles an adaptation of Odysseus’s story. I’d recommend looking up Jorge Rivera-Herrans’ own video (that’s the creator btw), “EPIC Songlist”, which covers every single song in order, breaking it down by act and saga, without spoiling anything. Anyways, hope you continue enjoying EPIC! :)

i think you're really going to love this musical since you connected to it so much here, its wonderfully done and its definitely a ride. And because theres no direct confirmation in gigi's animatic, and the next song takes place slightly later, for clarification, yes Odysseus did drop the child :( For suggested order/grouping, the songs are split into sagas that are like chapters. The Troy Saga, The Cyclops Saga, The Ocean Saga, The Circe Saga, The Underworld Saga, and The Thunder Saga (the Wisdom Saga releases on the 30th of this month) The next three songs are in the Troy saga, ending with "Warrior of The Mind" and they all follow each other close together time-wise After that it's four songs in Cyclops ending with "My Goodbye". All four of these are right after each other chronologically with no time in between In Ocean its also four songs ending in "Ruthlessness". These could be listened to individually but the last two basically lead into each other For Circe saga there are four ending in "There Are Other Ways" and should be listened to right after the song before it "Done For", as it's a direct continuation Underworld is three songs ending with "Monster", these could probably be done separate as none clearly lead into each other but they all are grouped together The Thunder Saga has five songs and ends with "Thunder Bringer". The first two ("Suffering" and "Different Beast") should be watched together as they're direct continuations of each other, and the last three (staring with "Scylla") should be watched together as they're also direct continuations. Yeah that ending is a gut punch for sure, I can only think of maybe two other moments in the whole show (so far) that hit as hard. It's always great to see how well the music pulls you in even if you have zero context, Jorge is the goat. Callbacks to this song throughout the show always hit like a freight train. 😭 Depending on how you want to split videos up there have already been a few comments on here highlighting which ones go together, but you could do a saga per video if you wanted to catch up quickly. The series has a wiki, so if you search for Epic: The Musical, you'll find it quickly. The songs are released in 5-song sets called Sagas, and the sagas relate into each other. Wisdom Saga is the most recent fully released saga right now--past that, some of the songs have had teasers or partial info releases, but nothing completed yet. There's just two sagas left until the musical's completed.

A couple things to add from a Greek mythology nerd!! So Astyanax (the baby) is the son of Crown Prince Hector and Andromache of Troy. He was murdered during the Sacking of Troy, but not for the reasons given in EPIC. There was no prophecy stating he would destroy Greece if he wasn't killed, and actually wasn't killed by Odysseus either- Odysseus *did* advocate for his death, but the action of throwing Astyanax off the Walls of Troy was done by Neoptolemus, Achilles's son (mentioned in the first song). EPIC chose to change this up a bit to fit with the overall theme of "When does a man become a monster?" Also! When Odysseus puts his helmet back on before taking Astyanax to the Walls, that is a ref to a moment in The Iliad, where Hector removes his helmet to make himself more human to Astyanax, who is frightened by the sight of his father in a war helmet. So Odysseus putting HIS helmet on, essentially makes him the "monster" in Astyanax's eyes, instead of the "man" Hector did. Some cool details!!

This is one of my favourite songs because of the music and the meaning of it. He has to choose who lives: his wife and son or this baby. One of the options will be done, and he chose the baby. For him, the baby is the lesser of two evils, no matter how horrible the choices are. There are some of the lines like "When does a ripple become a tidlewave", "When does a man become a monster" and "I'm just a man" that will come back in other songs. This story is gripping, emotional and heartbreaking at times and then uplifting and joyous at others. As for the child. It is implied that he dropped him but is never said until some of the other songs and Jorge told us later that it did happen. I have loved looking back at Gigi's work and seeing how much they have grown. You should also look into Wolfythewitch's and Mircsy's anamatics as well if you want to as they are also really good.

Great reaction! Some songs go better together than others, but they all follow each other in the story. One thing you could do is do the sagas together as separate videos. They are separate story arcs in the same linear story, so they provide natural stopping points. The two songs you've already done + three more are part of the Troy saga. Did you notice, his internal monologue is directed to the infant, as if he was talking or reasoning to the infant, not to himself. Makes it more personal. The lyrics is just superb. Also, the last part, his crew sang with him as they saw their captain neet the baby off the tower (who can relate to Perimedes?😂), as if they also reflected their actions and they also bear the decisions & responsibility of their captain. Ruthlessness is mercy, perhaps?

Btw... He does drop the baby. Saying that because it's not directly addressed in the following songs... Gigi wasn't sure either, when they drew the animation, thus leaving it open, but Jorge has since confirmed that Odysseus does kill the baby and with that guilt he prepares for his journey back.

Yaaaay! More Epic! Love the reaction, the attention and the understanding. It's nice when it really feels like there's the human element to reactions -- I love the ones that really analyse the music, lyrics, etc. but sometimes a good break from that for something more like what you do with your videos is a nice alternative to the more technical, musical commentary stuff. Also, warning: there are going to be plenty more horrible things to come... though maybe not of the possible infanticide kind. So, in my opinion, for now, besides these two, the other one ("Full Speed Ahead") you could probably watch alone, because I think, after the next one, "Open Arms" and "Warrior of the Mind" go together because of how things unfold, especially in the animatics for them. And then "Polyphemus" and "Survive" go together and "Remember Them" and "My Goodbye" follow each other up closely. This is then followed by the Ocean Saga, where you could *technically* go through it how you like, but there are four songs in that saga so you can easily split them into two sets of two. After which is the circe saga, which is one where I think listening to the songs in pairs is useful because the third and fourth songs in that saga - "Done For" and "There Are Other Ways" - follow each other very closely, both in musically and in terms of animation. From there you'll hit the Underworld Saga, which has only three songs, and, to be honest, I'm not sure what the best way to listen to them could be... but I feel like they're just stand alone enough that maybe if you didn't have the time you could cover them one by one, or you could do "The Underworld" and then pair together "No Longer You" and "Monster" or "Underworld" and "No Longer You"... or do a triple feature, but I do hear a lot of complaints on that from reaction channels, so... And for the Thunder saga "Suffering" and "Different Beast" really go together. I think you could then do "Scylla" by itself, unless you're down for triple features with Suffering and Different beast, and then pair "Mutiny" with "Thunder Bringer". The other songs that follow straight after that aren't out yet, I don't believe. (Some are, but chronologically speaking, they don't feel as though they follow right after "Thunder Bringer", in the same seemless way some songs seem to follow one another I think...) But if you do this on a kind of weekly-ish basis, depending on how you go about this, it could take you 10-23 weeks to reach the end of the Thunder Saga, and considering the Wisdom Saga is set to come out at the end of this month... you'll have another saga to react to by the time you're done for sure (with another five songs, presumably), *maybe* even the Vengeance Saga depending on how fast Jorge works and how frequently you react. That said, you do you. Listen to it however you see fit, 'cause in the end, the most exciting part of seeing people react to it is the fandom interaction and the social element of having another person join the fold, how they do it isn't nearly as important, so long as it's respectful and fun. As for what's most important for the creators, I think, is just exposure through other creators bringing attention to them.

You can find playlists and there is sagas that are like chapters. The last saga of act 1 is the underworld saga. But yeah like others have stated it goes Troy Saga, cyclops saga, The ocean saga, The cerce saga and the underworld saga. If I missed any I am sorry but I will go down this rabbit hole with you. But some fun facts is each character will be represented by a instrument Odysseus is a guitar and so on. Along with each person has call backs repeatedly threwout this series. Oh a story of Odyseus as a musical, what a great idea. Also great reaction :) I hope one day we get a stage performance. After you finish all the Epic reactions please check out the French musical Romeo et Juliette (2001) songs 'Les Rois Du Monde' and 'Aimer'. It was popular and got adapted into several languages across Europe, they had an Asian tour so there are also adaptations in Japanese and Korean.

In general, the story breaks into arcs of 3-5 songs. You are in the Troy Saga now and have three more songs to go in it. They are Full Speed Ahead, Open Arms, and Warrior of the Mind and in this case tell a contiguous story, with the end of one jumping into the next one, but none with the emotional rollercoaster of the first two. A lot of people listen to them saga at a time since they are a convenient size and tell a coherent story in each one. If you are inclined to subdivide, my personal view on the remainder in terms of where the natural cut points are: For Cyclops Saga (the next saga) you'll almost certainly want to do Polyphemus and Survive together/back to back. Remember them and my goodbye can be done either way, though in terms of story they chain together. For Ocean Saga they form a coherent and thematic whole, but the first two songs pair well and the last two songs pair well if you are trying to avoid a cliffhanger for yourself. For Underworld saga they can be treated as three distinct songs. They work together, but they are stylistically very distinct. For Thunder saga the first two songs go together and are hard to separate, the next two songs go together and it's best not to have a break between them, and the last song can be grouped with the others or can be standalone. Those are just my views on where the natural cut points are if you are trying to avoid cliffhangers for yourself ^^ Looking forward to seeing your journey!

While the entire musical tells an overarching story the Sagas are really what I'd suggest watching all at once as each song directly transitions into the next.
