My favorite George Carlin quote which is so very true... "My job is, essentially, thinking up goofy shit. Or reminding you of things you already knew, but forgot to laugh at the first time "

Oh, and George loved to talk about his dog Tippy. He'd mention Tippy in a lot of his earlier performances

@@rickwoodham4570 Ahhh that's it! I just typed a bit about what I missed in this sketch, but I think it was about Tippy! Him throwing his dead dog on the counter at the pet shop. "THAT WAS A GOOD DAMN DOG! BEST DAMN DOG I EVER DID HAVE! GIVE ME ONE MORE OF THOSE!"

I saw him live in 1977 and he was incredible - over two hours, nonstop, moving flawlessly from one theme to the next. He was so funny because most of his material was everyday things that we don’t really stop to think about, like the dog nuances, until he acts them out in front of you. He does about a ten minute routine on farts that is one of the funniest things you will ever see, along with the seven dirty words that you could never say on air (at least at that time you couldn’t). We literally left the auditorium with our faces hurting from laughing so hard for so long.

I got to see him too, in the 90’s, I think. I was on the floor I laughed so hard. And went in hard on my city! He was very specific and let us know he knew where he was. It was so special. He did a bit about his dog and cat having an untoward relationship. 😂 He had pictures from his phone he shared on the big screen. Epic.

This wasn't long after he'd had a pair of heart attacks after a period of heavy drug use. It was kind of a transition period, from the 1970's "Class Clown" era and the 1990's "Truth teller" era.

George Carlin is the GOAT of random thought. "The difference between "Stuff" and "***t" is one that will have you on the floor because it is really really true. Dogs and cats is amazing. He also talks about his own pets a little in one of them (Don't remember if this is the show but it might be) . He was a poet . As for the you getting a dog..first off kudos for realizing the responsibility. They are not just cute. They are like kids..have a raised a few myself (Kids and dogs ;) For a first dog..Frenchie isn't a bad choice but Frenchies are VERY smart . My suggestion to people that want to be dog owners is pet sit somebody's dog that you know real well for a week or two..or even foster a pup. (Foster means eventually it would go to another home..or you could adopt it.) Lots of rescues out there need homes and foster homes. Frenchies are very popular so there's likely a breed rescue somewhere relatively near you.

There's really three eras of Carlin's comedy. The very early material from the 1960s is a lot of character-based comedy, hippy-dippy weatherman and stuff like that. In the 1970s you had this observational material about the things in life that you never stopped to think about. Starting in the 1980s, but especially happening in the '90s and 2000s, that was whenever you have the more political and religious material, trying to make a statement that no one is immune

Another reason I love this channel - been binging on your Carlin reactions. This man is my spiritual sherpa and just an all-around funny dude. And I figure, Britt enjoys the humor of this old fart and follows him with open heart and mind blown. My kinda gal. It'll still take a while to get through everything you've reacted to so far. Don't think you've hit this one yet, so I do hope someday you'll get to my favorite Carlin bit, "The Language You Will Not Be Hearing Tonight," from 1990's DOIN' IT AGAIN (HBO). SPEAKING OF FATHER'S DAY... This routine was one of my dad's faves. If not the entire bit, at least the part where George talks about "space." I'll let you discover the rest. Enjoy. Do a youtube search for George Carlin -- in the 1960s-70s he was on "Smothers Brothers as the "Hippy-Dippy Weatherman". He also did some "Ed Sullivan" shows. But even then he was too "radical" to be mainstream.

I second Mr. Davison’s suggestion…you MUST react to the UNCENSORED version of “The Seven Words That You Can’t Say On Television”! Now understand 1:58 that it was from the early 1970’s, and it was EXTREMELY controversial and popular…it gave George Carlin a tremendous career boost! Most of the footage of him is from his HBO Specials, and we always looked forward to seeing one, he always makes you think about what you are laughing at…!

In terms of his bank account there’s probably no question he would have been better off sticking with his Vegas deal and performing for people he hated. But he would have been a forgotten lounge comedian from the mid 60s who was on Sullivan and some of the late night shows. Because he risked everything and actually got in trouble with the IRS, he’s a legend. For us, that’s great, but he’d have had a much easier life if he’d stuck with the old stuff. But it would have driven him crazy.

I used to spell FOR my dog! If I said to her, "S I T U P!" She would sit up for me and I'd give her a treat. If I tried that with a cat it would just sit there with a stupid look on its face! She was a VERY smart dog! We could let her go out front by herself and she would either just sit on the porch for a good long time or, she might wander out into the front yard and sniff around, maybe stretch out in the Sun. If she spotted a squirrel, she might go chase it but, if the squirrel ran across the street, the dog would stop dead at the curb, sit there and watch the squirrel run away! We never had to put a leash, chain or collar on her!

“Tonight’s forecast…. DARK! Continued mostly dark tonight, turning to widely scattered light in the morning…” (Voiced in his ‘stoner’ voice -you may recognize it as the voice of ‘Filmore’ the hippie VW Microbus from the Pixar movie ‘Cars’)

Get a rescue dog or cat and save a life. They are just as cool as the fancy ones.

French bulldogs are not good first timer dogs. They're a little difficult to train and a little high maintenance. I'd recommend either a Cavalier King charles spaniel if you like small dogs. They're very smart. If you're looking for a medium sized, i'd recommend an Australian Shepard. I'll warn you beforehand that they require a job. Good dogs but keep them busy. Let them herd your kids if they need something to do. If you've got space, i'd recommend a dane. They're giant couch potatoes.

Dogs believe they are human. Cats believe they are God.

I’m just wondering, if you hate cats and dogs, then is there an animal that you DO like?
