According to Grace, she wrote this song in just 30 minutes when she was 13. Although it's one of her favorite songs, it's very personal, Grace never wanted to sing this song live, Geace felt the song was a mood killer in live performance. BTW, Grace was 14 here and played 39+1 concerts as the opening band on the North American tour for Imagine Dragons that summer 2018. 💯 *FANDERWAAL* 💯

Here first album, which was difficult for her, doesn't have a bad song on it. I think it's a masterpiece. She doesn't like it anymore, but this song, made me cry rhe first time I heard it and still gives me the chills. Grace is, and has always been, incredible 😎

Enjoyed your reaction on Grace, BrittReacts👍 FYI Grace VanderWaal at 19 years of age is already considered to be in the upper tier of song composition in the music industry today. She has composed original songs for both of Disney's Stargirl movies. Never been accomplished before by a minor.

Thanks BrittReacts, great reaction. This song is extraordinary not only because of the lyrics, which are very complex, especially since it was composed by a young composer, that alone was already something far above average, but also the instrumental part was too much, that fingering of the introduction, the rhythm and the production too deserves 1000. Her work is incredible! "Success always"!!!

Grace is now 19. She won America's Got Talent 7 years ago doing something at 12-years-old that had never been done before. She only performed songs that she wrote herself. No covers. Her audition got over 100 million views on KZbin and even more on other social media sites. Her career was derailed by the pandemic as well as complicating factors like school and needing a family member chaperone her to all her events which was hard on her family. Still she put out 2 EPs and a full album and starred in 2 movies with a supporting role in a third movie.. She opened for Imagine Dragons on their North American tour dates and for Florence and the Machine, and had 2 headlining tours of her own.

It is a really nice list about her, but it could be complete with songs she wrote before she reached 16. And numbers as high as you mentioned,are very impressive but not enough if you drop your fan base mainly older people. I was not trying her to compare to any other artists, but she let us down so it’s time to see the reality. Young girls and boys passed even her numbers and they didn’t win AGT. Just because she is an American young singer songwriter, it doesn’t mean that she is the best. Her songs are barely understandable “ lyric wise “ because she is trying as much words to squeeze in every songs as she can, but concert goers don’t care about songs with to many words. They want to have lyrics which they can understand, and want to rock the hell out those notes. Simplicity is the key to become successful and she is everything but simple. Others writing lyrics and the fans are going crazy about it, because their brains is not developed yet to understand difficult lyrics. Write some number one songs and maybe then you can go to another industry in her case it’s movie making.. bad choice again! Two children flap movies hardly can call a success, and the promised “ big name director “ movie she is anticipated only, wouldn’t make her more known by music fans or experts. But back to other young artists. Angelina Jordan who win a same talent show in her country, and put hard work in her social media presence, is more successful than Grace. I don’t want to go deep in Asian artists work, but almost all are masters of some instruments and touring the world. Another young band are Mexicans and they had a viral video in the age of 9, 11, and 14 yrs old of age and since they wrote more than 50 songs and the crowd is getting crazy about them. But they all playing multiple instruments and they are sisters. And just because US social media won’t look other artists on the other side of the world, talents are coming out like weed from the dirt and all are playing instruments like masters. Grace said it once that she hated to practice on Piano, and that could be the deciding factor of her late carrier. I think that she is still a child in her mind, jumping from one toy to the others and got boring very easily, and that young Mexican band member wrote in one of her song, “ the freedom of choice is killing the mind “ look them up, their name is the Warning, recently started their world tour here in the US. All their songs are understandable but still have lyrics which making even old persons think about it later. The world become the biggest theater full with incredibly talented young artists we just have to find them!

@@bubamaranovichok4901 Are you by any chance a troll? Why attack Grace? Did she take the spotlight from your choice?
@bubamaranovichok4901

@@erich7558 of course not, but I can see her fault lines, which are getting deeper and deeper. And I remember your name to. Spotlight are shining on successful musicians and on people like me. What I said about her character, time will tell who was right, because I have seen more gifted artists as Grace, going down before she showed up in the scene, and I predicted their fall before they become stars. Tattoos and blonde hair around a pretty face in both industry a penny for a dozen even if they have characters it’s not sure that they have the right character. Grace unfortunately has more than one characters, today she is a singer songwriter with exceptional talent, but tomorrow she want to become a movie star, and the day after she thinks that she is a super model in some really big designer show as an onlooker?Walking on the catwalk, they are the super models. The movie industry: nobody cares about a pretty girl with exceptional songwriting ability. To become an actress they have to go trough the Performing Art Academy and successfully to. Which I’m sure she didn’t even started yet. And as I said that simplicity is the key in that place just like in music. Believed or not, I’m still a fan of her but with a heavy hart, knowing about her careless lifestyle. Smoking all kind of smoke or cursing on her life streaming, throw off many of her fans especially old farts like me, but I never lost fate in her so, I’m not a troll but you can call me names like grumpy old man with a clear mind and a good eye in talent to predict, where or how those youngsters gonna end up. Stay on the right path is never easy, and she had the best possible start on her journey, but no one knows which is the right path, where character coming in the picture. It would be the time for her to choose, but what I was telling in my earlier comment, ( the freedom of choice it’s killing the mind)

🎼 the rabbit hole “and those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music” nietzsche everyone has their grace vanderwaal rabbit hole story. this is mine: the first time i saw grace was during her agt audition. i was more impressed with the audience’s reaction than i was with the performance. “cute song, charismatic girl, great message, fifteen minutes of fame,” i thought to myself. then i heard _beautiful thing._ i could not wrap my head around how a twelve-year-old girl could have written such exquisite music. i went down the rabbit hole that night and when i finally came up for air, the landscape of music had shifted - there was grace and there was everyone else. the song which started this paradigm shift was _darkness keeps chasing me,_ which grace wrote when she was thirteen. the music, the lyrics, the vocals and the emotions were so melodiously woven together that i listened to it unfold in stunned disbelief. no song before or since has so seamlessly fused the ethereal light of beauty with the dark darkness of hell. the song is so affecting that one must be in a proper frame of mind to receive it or risk spiraling downward towards the abyss. no doubt her handlers at _columbia records_ attempted to exclude the song from the album because it did not fit the “image” they were trying to create for her, but grace being grace pushed for its inclusion because this was her song, and her declaration to the world of what was possible from the most important singer-songwriter of her generation. grace’s second ep is a collection of _letters_ written to her generation about the excesses of her generation. the _intro_ to the ep, _gucci shoes,_ is a scathing exposé on the nihilism that pervades today’s youth. it is the wellspring from which the rest of the music flows, and joins _beautiful thing_ and _darkness keeps chasing me_ as the three defining songs which set grace apart from her peers. grace spent the first six months of the lockdowns cooped up at home. with no one to talk to except her family, grace took to social media and gave us some of her best performances to date. there are few experiences in life as pleasurable as listening to grace sing in an intimate setting accompanied by just her ukulele or guitar. her renditions of _lungs, bored of me, today and tomorrow_ and _i love you_ highlight the rich vocal tone which distinguishes her from other female singers and allows her to _embody_ emotions in her music. grace then produced a handful of originals and covers by jazz legends and folk heroes alike in search of a sound which would define the next phase of her evolution, a sound which found its genesis in _like can’t you see._ after heaping all of her pent up anger and frustration upon the student body with all the _rage_ she could muster in a farewell performance for the ages, grace left the hellscape of _interlochen_ and returned home a doll made out of glass. when she finally broke, she started her descent (once again) into hell. but grace _made it out alive_ from the dark darkness and brought with her a slew of new diary entries highlighted by a trifecta of songs better than anything anyone not named grace vanderwaal has produced in years - _just kids, made it out alive_ and _let me hate you._ grace is nineteen years old and has already created a catalogue of music unrivaled by any of her peers. as good as her music has been, it is _just the beginning._ grace has embarked on the next leg of her journey of self-discovery. the world is not ready for what is to come but we are, because we have seen how deep the rabbit hole goes. the amazing grace vanderwaal
