Vince wrote a song right after recording this called “Whenever You Come Around,” all about Amy’s smile. It is, no kidding, the most beautiful thing you will ever hear. That scene at the end: that was in the documentary about making the album House of Love. She squeezes him and says, “I’ve been wanting to do this all day.” And they put it in the documentary! And Vince is like, “Whoa,” and moves away and starts fiddling with the sheet music. I truly think Vince was instantly in love and was aware of it, but it took Amy awhile to figure it out. But everybody around her knew, including her jackass husband.

Amy Grant has the best breakup and full of pain album ever. It’s tragic and awesome song writing. The album is called, Behind the Eyes. She is a very under appreciated songwriter imho…🤔❤️❤️

Yes, you are correct about their chemistry. It's very obvious, both back then and even today when they perform together. She's a former Christian artist, and he's one of country music's greatest of all time. She's sweet as butter, and he's the quintessential nice guy, so it's a perfect match. Very similar to Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood; both were married and went through a divorce, and had worked together previously and fell in love.

sorry, but she is still on the road as a christian artist.

I've been a fan of Amy since nearly the beginning of her career , as a Christian artist (my first arena concert was her My Father's Eyes tour at K-Wings arena in Kalamazoo, with future huge Christian/Gospel name Michael W. Smith opening for her), and there was quite a kerfuffle when they got together. Gotta say, though, I am happy they found each other and have lasted the test of time. Amy met her first husband when she was 18, in her first year of college and only a couple years into her career, and married at 22. She has stated that it wasn't this song that caused her to divorce Chapman, they had a rocky marriage almost from the start and were already approaching divorce at the time. Not excuses, just possible reasons why she might have shifted away from him as she matured. Not that I think people in that situation can't make it, my timetable meeting my now wife was much the same (met 18/married 23) and we're still together at almost 26 years, but I do get it. Your brain doesn't finish maturing until around 25, so I'm always amazed at some of the things we're allowed to do before that.

I remember how Christians nearly crucified her when she divorced. Christian radio wouldn't play her music, and her career took a major hit. It's really hard when your career and your faith are inextricably tied together in the public eye.

You should watch the video the Portrait of Amy Grant which talks about how she started out singing Christian songs and the struggles with her changing to singing love songs etc. And how she and Vince got together. She was probably one the most successful Christian singers at the time. Maybe the name of the video was the ultimate portrait???

Both of their marraiges were over by the time they did this, not legally, but both were on very rocky ground, Amy's husband was a cocaine addict and not a very nice person at all, Vince's carreer was really exploding and his wife was not supportive, I think everyone in the world knew they were in love except the two of them,LOL, I have been a fan of her music since her very first album. It was kinda like Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, everyone knew about them too, Sometimes you marry the wrong person before you find your real soul mate. xo.

I think Vince Gill has one of the purest tenor voices, ever. Along with those pretty green eyes 👀 Thought I'd leave another suggestion. "Emmylou- Harris Wayfaring Stranger (Stereo)" this was one of my grandmother's favorite songs by Emmylou, and because I grew up listening to it. One of my favorites too. Whenever I listen to this song it takes me straight back in time to her house, when I was very small.

I love Amy Grant, this beautiful woman can sing like nobodies business, this guy really, really liked me, he lived on the east coast and me in California on the West Coast, he was a long haul trucker and I happen to be walking around the block, when I seen this truck driver practically break his neck trying to look as long as he possibly was able to, SMH, I ignored him and continued to walk to this little tiny Greyhound bus station. I seen this very nice piece of wood I wanted to get by their dumpster. I could see the bus station from where I lived, and the trucker was delivering a half block down the street where I lived. As I'm reaching for this wood, I see this man coming down the alley towards me, I instantly thought, oops hope the man isn't the owner of the bus station, as soon as he got within a few feet, I blurted out,is it alright if I take this piece of wood, the guy said sure, here let me get that for you. I notice that he also had a strange accent, I thought New York maybe. Of course it was the trucker, we talked awhile gave him my phone number and said I only live right there, when you come back this way stop in and say hi, then we went our separate ways. Two weeks later he was at my door and we became long distance lovers. He fell in love almost to fast and instantly! Me? no 😳!! I told him I dated a lot and most were just excellent friends who watched out for me. He come one time and we went for a cruise in my 72 VW Van, as we're going for our evening drive, he said, I love ya Nader, then said I bought you this two song cassette of Any Grant, and I absolutely loved her sing: ""I'M THE LUCKY ONE!!"" give it a listen sometime it's fun& upbeat!!

6:19 maybe they didn’t watch the video but it sure was over the tabloids throughout the 90’s, they all suspected they’d one day be together despite having to divorce their then-spouses, people knew, people we’re right, and it happened !! This is my all time fave song from the very first moment I heard it, that video’s version is also the best version of the song, The Classic Philly Soul Mix, bittersweet nostalgia 2 me

You should check out some Amy Grant. Funny you noticed him taking the high notes... Dolly parton commented after doing "I will always love you" with him the it was weird singing the low parts! lol

Amy began her career as a 15 year old with a surprise contract offer from Blanton Harrell artist management under the new Reunion Records label. Michael W Smith was also brought in on the label… two home runs for the new team. In her first year in college she met Gary Chapman, a fellow music writer and guitarist. They collaborated on songs and eventually wrote some wonderful music. This relationship turned romantic (more on Gary’s end) and marriage followed. They struggled keeping the relationship out of the business end right off the bat. Gary began using drugs and getting DUIs. Amy struggled to keep this from their three children. It was not a secret she could keep from others tho. By 1992 Amy was a national celebrity with the hit LP Heart in Motion. Gary claims Amy began asking for a divorce around 1995, but Gary refused to consider it. Amy began working with Vince on various projects and soon found a mutual attraction building. Gary saw it and challenged Amy on it. She made it known she intended to leave and did so in 1999. Gary went downhill from there, marrying two more times in quick secession. This video was filmed in 1994 with Vince, and as you can see she was falling for him hard and fast. Gary was well aware of all of it. So was her church audience and they were not impressed. Multiple children between them, Christian values and disgruntled fan bases didn’t deter them. It was clear by 2000 that our “Angels” singer was long gone. Amy secularized her music and lived in open defiance of fans’ expectations. I honestly don’t know what her beliefs are anymore. I haven’t heard her even say God or Christ in years. I miss the Amy I loved in the 80’s. Her music meant the world to me and still does.

One doesn't have to say God or Christ to show who you really are. Heck, even from Straight Ahead, neither word was mentioned more than a few times. You show it in love and respect to everyone. She has helped raise millions of $ in philanthropic projects. Jesus taught us how to show love. She still does it in spades. Anyone can preach religious words. Few live it out. She does.

Both of their previous marriages were already coming apart before this song was recorded.
